Re: Forza Motorsport's Career Mode Is Always-Online, DLC Plans Detailed

rjc-32

@Episode_13 Laptops are not always online. When travelling it is not always possible/convenient to be connected; connections can also be unreliable, resulting in you being booted from the game. You are also at the mercy of server outages (like GT7). Then you will get to the inevitable “end of life” with these licensed games. Before they would simply be delisted from stores whereas this time servers could be turned off completely rendering them permanently unplayable.

Just having 24/7 access to an internet connection doesn’t mean single player experiences should be forced online.

Re: Digital Games Are Dominating In The UK At Almost 90% Of Overall Sales

rjc-32

@Cyberpsycho They can’t charge lower for digital day one. The reason is that they still need the brick and mortar retailers to distribute hardware and software currently. If they’d charge lower prices digitally then there would be no incentive for retailers to waste valuable shop space on products that people can buy cheaper digitally externally.

Re: Xbox Is Shutting Down Support For Windows Phone In May 2022

rjc-32

@Snake_V5 That was my worry after reading this. I’d say it’s doubtful though, particularly as 360 games are still functioning on current platforms. It doesn’t make sense to cease achievements on 360 as they will be using the same servers. I can understand the phones losing support, in the same way as the PC live service was also shut down.

Re: Forza Fans Won't Give Up On Japan As The Next Horizon Location

rjc-32

Yes. There is lots of potential for off-road racing too. You have mountainous terrain around Fiji, along with snowy environments from the north of the country. The whole game doesn’t need to revolve around rally. Having a larger city would make the game more appealing, to me at least.

Re: Some Xbox Series X Owners Are Having Major Problems With 4K Blu-Rays

rjc-32

It’s not just 4K discs that cause problems, standard blu-rays also throw up errors. Specifically anything that is 1080p 50fps (BBC wildlife documentaries for example), these discs were completely crashing my series X last time I tried them. As soon as the disc loaded the console would shut down. Not sure if this has been fixed but it happened with anything that was 1080 50p, found a couple of threads with others reporting the issue too.

Re: Xbox Dev Responds To Report That DRM Is A 'Serious Problem' On Xbox Series X

rjc-32

I now see physical games as "trading cards" anyway, there for the collection and to fill the shelf but will always be continually updated rendering the discs obsolete further down the line. I've no worries of MS closing the store so I will continue to buy physical xbox games. As for needing Internet, an online connection is pretty much as ubiquitous as an electricity supply (at least in markets where MS sell xbox) and the console doesn't operate without electricity.... I'm fairly confident I'll always be able to connect. Also for the future I'm sure MS will still allow legacy devices to connect to the network for the purposes of the stores and achievements.

Re: Soapbox: I Spent £150 On A Harry Potter Game And Have No Regrets

rjc-32

CEX had the Xbox version for £35 just a couple weeks back. I bought one online, then went and traded my PS2 copy in there and got £63 credit. The game came out in 2003, way after the movie and PS1 version so I imagine it only got a limited print run on the newer consoles, hence its relative rarity.

Re: Unable To Load Your Games And Apps On Xbox Right Now? Microsoft Is On The Case

rjc-32

@Xeno_Aura Well that would be an issue if that’s what is occurring. DRM methods like this are the main reasons I won’t purchase digital games unless absolutely necessary. I’ve never had to do an online check in for PlayStation digital games though, even when not being connected/offline for extended periods. This is worrying if MS have stealthily implemented online check ins, but according to Xbox.com you should be able to play any games on a home Xbox even if servers are down so this is all very strange

Re: Reaction: FPS Boost On Xbox Series X Just Keeps Getting Better And Better

rjc-32

I wonder if they’ve attempted to implement some form of FPS boost with the 360/OG emulator? I’m not holding out much hope, due to the fact it’s emulation and would probably require a different workaround, but it would be great to have some of the 360 titles boosted to 60, the Gears games, Red Dead and the Fable games are some that I’d love to see.

Re: These 74 Games Are Getting FPS Boosts On Xbox Series X

rjc-32

@Kilamanjaro Currently no 360 or original Xbox games have been improved by FPS boost. I doubt it would work in the same manner given that they’re run using emulation. I’d really like to see 360 titles in particular take advantage but I’m sure it would take a lot more work, if it’s even at all possible with some games. Battlefront II OG was One X enhanced to take advantage of higher resolution years back though.

Re: These 74 Games Are Getting FPS Boosts On Xbox Series X

rjc-32

@Snake_V5 The resolution will be lowered to a degree, but the trade off will be worth it if you’re going from 30 to 60, lag will be reduced and motion will look cleaner. 60 to 120 is more subjective, for multiplayer twitch games it will be worth it but maybe not for slower paced single player titles. I’d rather play at 720p 60fps than 4K 30fps, playability would be much better.
