I really enjoyed it at launch (Steam) and recently returned to it and love the new updates, especially the recent Watchtower dlc/creation club, so now I can have a fleet of ships and have all new parts to make them from. Well, when I'm not modding in the Enterprise that is
Unfortunately the IP is owned by Microsoft and gaming is very clearly not a priority for them. I wouldn't ever expect to see another Perfect Dark game now
What's surprising about the more powerful console with a significantly higher power draw running games better? It's a handheld console that can also be used on the TV and let's be honest, the overwhelming majority (myself included) aren't buying it to play the standard AAA games that are everywhere. We're buying it for Nintendo's games.
I also wouldn't call the Series S good value, in fact I'd say it's terrible value in today's market. The 1tb option is almost the same price as a digital PS5 (actually currently more expensive due to an offer on PS5) and not that far behind the digital X
@The-Chosen-one thing is, Cyberpunk worked well on PC at launch, it was just the last gen consoles that it should never have released on, whilst No Man's Sky worked fine, just its content was lacklustre vs how it was marketed. This though is a disaster on every level and basically broken on every platform
"Here's hoping we'll get a 60FPS performance mode eventually"
I mean at this stage a 30fps mode would be nice 😂
Thankfully I saw this disaster coming so didn't get conned into buying it. I don't mind the concept of the game being something of a Headhunter style game but releasing it in that state is completely unacceptable
When its worked its been a decent experience but with noticable lag. The premise of it is fantastic and I enjoyed the challenges but it really should have an option to download it and without that, its not something I'll continue to play
On that list there's only Doom The Dark Ages I've really put any time into, so it wins by default but I'd also say its a very good game and in my top 3 overall so far this year, just behind Mario Kart World and with Death Stranding 2 at the top. In terms of the modern Doom games, I prefer it to Eternal but Doom 2016 is still the best of them.
Just a bit of a shame Oblivion has such performance issues as I really want to continue playing that as well
Sadly still just a tiny amount of the games I actually play, about 13 altogether.
Those that are missing include GTAV, GTA Trilogy, Cyberpunk, every Resident Evil game bar RE2 and even Xbox's own games such as RRAE Replay and Doom 2016
This is great for those handhelds but I don't see myself using it on my PC as the Steam UI is significantly better than the Xbox app, plus 99.9% of my library is there. Not only that but you've been able to add non Steam games to your library there for as long as I can remember, so I already have a consolidated library
Makes sense to be limited as its not a long term viable product, though kinda strange its effectively just the same price as buying all the bits independently. Personally I'd advise anyone to simply pay a bit extra an buy the Quest 3 (non S) as it has a higher resolution display and better lenses
Not in the slightest, mainly because I've been enjoying their games recently so was already excited for those and their upcoming games. As for their hardware or PC's with some Xbox logos on, they're not products that I have any interest in but as already said, I'm excited for their games
I've got a Quest 3 but streaming Xbox games from the cloud is pretty low on the list of things I'd use it for and if this doesn't actually come with VR controllers, then I think its a pretty ridiculous product
@FraserG for newer games it makes no real difference it being a PC over a console but for me personally, if it had been a true Xbox handheld that could play 360 and og Xbox games I'd be very tempted, as a PC I just don't care as I wouldn't ever use it over my actual PC.
@deadmaker exactly, out of around 120 or so digital games that I own on Xbox, 13 show up on PC as play anywhere, with even games from studios Xbox have bought still not available to me
@Scrubchub @Ricky-Spanish they do have some subtle differences, I have the Starfield controller and it has rubber grips on the back and a different texture on the triggers, making it much nicer to hold.
That said I've just got a standard white one from Argos for £36
@awp69 yeah I suspect it's location based as Xcloud barely works for me either. Luckily I have other ways to play these games but it'd be nice if these worked for me
That does look really nice, I have the Starfield controller for my PC but could do with a second one for multiplayer instead of messing with Bluetooth controllers
It's not even just a good Internet connection but your location. My Internet is great but this is basically unplayable for me, as is Xcloud in general but when Stadia was around, that worked fine.
I don't see why these simply can't be downloaded as I'd guess that even in their best state, it'd still have noticable lag for the Atari games specifically
EDIT: I tried it again today and it worked much better, still noticable lag but not unplayable and I even managed to survive for 120 seconds on River Raid without dying
This is a cool addition but them being streamed puts me off playing them and I'd ultimately much rather see Xbox's own classics (og Xbox and 360) be added to PC
Perfect Dark on the N64 was amazing and is very much a "sequel" to Goldeneye, building upon its foundations in every way. Zero almost feels like a completely different game with the name attached, so not really much of a franchise as such but I'm still looking forward to the new game
I don't have a preference, other than to say if a game is open world, then the world has to do something to justify it other than simply being a large area to scatter icons to check off.
GTA and RDR need no introduction for how they use their open worlds and then you have Dsath Stranding which made the world itself an obstacle to be overcome
Absolutely not, a Series S isn't far off a digital PS5, whilst the X is either only a bit cheaper, or more expensive than a PS5 Pro depending on the model and in a world where Xbox are bringing most of their games to Playstation, they've made their console unviable for me
@RBRTMNZ definitely based upon what? Trump has raised tariffs astronomically for parts from China and Nintendo moved some production to Vietnam to avoid those but manufacturing costs are higher there.
The case manufacturer Hyte, literally cannot afford to sell their own product in the USA anymore
I said this was inevitable and not just a Nintendo issue when they announced their prices. Unfortunately we are living in a reality where everyone's costs are increasing and sadly any next generation console is now going to be very expensive
Subscriptions are simply an option and I don't think were ever intended to take over. For many they are a great way to play games, for others such as myself, they have little value as so many of the games I play are outside of them or I simply don't have enough time to make them financially worthwhile
Unfortunately for me, Bethesda decided to put out Oblivion just before this, so this will have to go on my wishlist for now but I'm looking forward to playing it when I get the chance
I've been playing this on PS5 Pro and one thing it sounds like it has in common with Xbox is the quality mode looks awful in motion, the performance mode is nice and smooth so far. I'd also suggest turning off the screen space reflections as whilst they can look nice, they're hugely distracting as they pop in and out of existence.
Other than that it doesn't look really nice and the combat feels much better at even this early stage
@Deshalu absolutely we need all 3 to be competitive, my only issue with Xbox is that whilst I accept they (and others do of course) want physical to be the minority of sales, I wish they'd at least put the entire game on disc or use multiple discs, even charge a premium for them if necessary but make physical copies actually that.
@Deshalu In the interest of fairness I did try it with quite a few Nintendo games and yes Tears of The Kingdom wouldn't play without an update first, nor would Odyssey but BOTW did, though the copy I currently have seems to be a later print of the current version number. Everything else run straight off the cartridge with no fuss and I'm certain the above games did as well back when they came out, but it seems they've flagged certain games to be on a specific update in the latest firmware revisions, perhaps to combat piracy.
EDIT: Looking on reddit, it could simply be that the Switch remembers the version of certain games you've played and won't let you revert to an earlier one and I'm not going to reformat it and delete my saves to find out
@Deshalu how is Nintendo not true? I own every major Nintendo first party game on the Switch and every single one of them is completely playable from the cartridge.
Oh and I even got Sonic 3 yesterday on a 4K Blu-ray disc, so perhaps you need to do some "research"
@Deshalu I'm pretty sure all of Sony's own (offline and single player) games have a complete playable version on disc and Nintendo certainly have all of theirs playable from a cartridge without any installation needed.
Xbox are the outliers here in terms of platform holders and either don't even bother with a physical version or have little data on the disc supplied
I enjoyed what I played of it but overall I think FH4 is the better game with a much better progression system. These days though, I don't really play either and FH5 in particular takes up far too much space to just be sitting on my hard drive in the hope that I'll boot it up occasionally
@themightyant I agree, whilst in of itself it's not a big deal, I'm not a fan of UI design putting extra steps in the way of what the devices primary functions are
This "Xbox" handheld is just a handheld PC with an Xbox sticker on anyway, so I doubt Sony will care too much, especially when they only port their bigger games to PC after they've exhausted the bulk of their sales on their own console anyway. And let's be honest, this thing won't be selling in big enough numbers for Sony to take notice either
If my entire Xbox library was available on it, then maybe but as in reality, only a tiny portion of my digital library is available on PC, then this holds little appeal for me
My thoughts are always the same, no single player games should ever require an online connection or account login. For Sea of Thieves it makes sense as that's an always online game and at least you got the benefit of your progression following you.
For this though it should not be necessary and you can't even share your progress over to Playstation. Then again Playstation's own GT7 is completely unplayable offline for no good reason, so it's not like they're any better
Good, if anything it's really stupid that on console you are penalised for actually buying games, as you then have to pay to play online (or pay to stream them), whilst these free games are exempt from those charges

Re: Gaming Subscriptions Reach 'All-Time High' But Xbox Series X|S Sales Suffer In May 2025 Analysis (US)
Ironically the current financial climate is made me decide to not renew my subscriptions as they are poor value for myself.
As for Xbox, there are still games I enjoy and am very much looking forward to but they're just a 3rd party publisher to me these days

Resident Evil
Fallout
Elder Scrolls
