Xbox Play Anywhere Is Growing Massively In 2025, And There's A Lot More To Come

Back at the end of last year, we penned an article on Pure Xbox talking about 10 great games that had been added to Xbox Play Anywhere in 2024, questioning why Xbox hadn't been marketing the service for years at that point.

Suddenly, in 2025, Xbox Play Anywhere has become a massive focus for Team Xbox, especially considering the ROG Xbox Ally handheld is right around the corner - a device that's designed to play PC games natively.

"With over 1,000 games now supporting Xbox Play Anywhere, players can seamlessly switch between PC, Xbox console, and supported handhelds at no additional cost, bringing even more value to our Xbox players. Progress including saves, game add-ons, and achievements, is carried over wherever the game is played. Simply log in with an Xbox account on any device to continue playing from where you left off."

It's been confirmed this week that Xbox Play Anywhere has actually added over 100 games in 2025 already, and Xbox Wire has specifically highlighted 30 that were added in May - the list of which you can see below.

"100+ games have been released with this feature so far in 2025! In May, these games came into the Xbox Play Anywhere collection:"

  • 30 Birds
  • Alexandria IV
  • Astro Miner
  • Black Pieces Move First
  • Boxing Gym Story
  • Bridge Race
  • Crazy Chicken Kart 2
  • CyberCorp
  • DOOM: The Dark Ages
  • Dream Town Island
  • Dungeon Village 2
  • Elemental War Clash
  • Eyes: The Horror Game
  • Fuga: Melodies of Steel 3
  • Golf Up
  • Helix Jump
  • Jonah Lomu Rugby Challenge 4
  • Kittens and Yarn
  • Kulebra and the Souls of Limbo
  • Monster Train 2
  • Preserve
  • Retro Classics
  • Shy Cats Hidden Tracks – Vol. 2
  • Splitgate 2
  • Spot Challenge Vol. 4
  • Starlight Legacy
  • Super Engine GT Turbo SPEC
  • The Pyraplex
  • to a T
  • Trident’s Tale

And of course, that was just May - other games such as Final Fantasy XVI, Rematch, The Alters, FBC: Firebreak and Space Marine Master Crafted Edition have also joined the list in June, and we'll continue to see the library of supported titles growing throughout 2025.

It's all fantastic stuff, and it ties into Xbox's vision to "play the games you want, with the people you want, anywhere you want" That's a very ambitious vision though, and it means there's plenty of work ahead for Xbox Play Anywhere over the coming months and years - assuming they want to try and build it out with as many games as possible.

"At Xbox, our vision is for you to play the games you want, with the people you want, anywhere you want."

Looking at the list of Xbox Play Anywhere titles on the official Xbox website, it currently stands at just over 1,300 games, but admittedly quite a lot of those are smaller indie games that don't attract all that much attention. This is the biggest criticism people have of the service as it stands right now, but if Team Xbox keeps devoting the same level of attention to it for years to come, it's set to evolve into a truly spectacular offering for Xbox fans.

And yeah, they're really serious about this thing! At the Xbox Games Showcase earlier this month, it was announced that every game in the event would be getting Xbox Play Anywhere support, and we've already seen teases that suggest Hollow Knight: Silksong and Baldur's Gate 3 will be getting the treatment - so the future looks very bright.

"Every new game you see in today's show will be playable on the Xbox Ally [through Xbox Play Anywhere]."

It's going to be fascinating to see how Xbox Play Anywhere develops throughout the rest of this console generation and beyond, and personally it's starting to influence my purchasing decisions - if a game has Xbox Play Anywhere support, I'm actually more likely to buy it! Hopefully, that proves to publishers it's an idea worth investing in.
