If you remember Bubsy, there's a good chance Bubsy 3D is the game you're thinking of most - a 1996 PS1 platformer that was very poorly received in some circles, to the point where it's been called one of the worst games of all time.
And with that in mind, let us introduce you to Bubsy in: The Purrfect Collection! Yes, this collection of Bubsy games is coming to Xbox on September 9th, 2025, and despite what we just said about Bubsy 3D, it seems there's every reason to check this out when it lands in less than a month.
Firstly, it's not just Bubsy 3D in here - you get four games (and multiple versions of them) which are as follows:
- Bubsy in: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind (Super Nintendo Entertainment System™, Super Famicom™, SEGA Genesis™)
- Bubsy II (Super Nintendo Entertainment System™, SEGA Genesis™, Game Boy™)
- Bubsy in: Fractured Furry Tales (Atari Jaguar™)
- Bubsy 3D (PlayStation®)
Then, throw in enhanced resolutions and frame rates, save states and rewind functionality, scans of art, manuals, ads, and more, video interviews about the history of the series, a music player full of tracks - and suddenly you've got a package that sounds well worth checking out. It's all helmed by Audi Sorlie as well, who's not only a Bubsy World Heavyweight Champion, but is described as "arguably the world’s foremost expert on the furry franchise".
There's even a "Refurbished Edition" of Bubsy 3D in this package with full analog controls, suggesting that the "worst game ever" moniker could truly be a thing of the past after this collection has released!
If you're interested, you can check out the Xbox Store page for Bubsy in: The Purrfect Collection! right now (although pre-orders are not yet available), and there are multiple physical editions to buy at Limited Run Games as well.
Is Bubsy a celebrated icon from the mascot wars of the early 90s or a platforming punchline? The team at Limited Run Games has built a new collection to find the answer. Bubsy in: The Purrfect Collection explores the franchise's troubled history and enduring popularity.

Okay, I'll admit it! I was wrong about Sony sharing it's exclusives with Xbox... 😂
I worked hard as a child to forget this existed. Thanks
Bubsy 3D getting improvements is interesting. Control improvements won't fix a horrid game, but I wonder if that's all they're doing for it. I'm interested.. not at full price, but interested.
Literally, every mascot but Banjo being remade. 😡
"What could possibly go wrong?..."
Hmm... This got a release date. OK, There's the answer.
+The Atari Jaguar game is so bad, you just die, awful collision detection. I have it still, purely because its one of the worst games ever made.
Though i would have to put Highlander the Game as equal , both the 8 bit and 16 bit games are dire.
if you want to upset a gamer , buy him Busby and Highlander. . they may cry for a month.
The Atari Jaguar version was actually a really good game.
Wow the Jaguar game is a rare one and interesting.
@JayJ Yeah, it must have been hard to get an Atari Jaguar game running on modern hardware. This is one of the only times I can think of where a Jaguar game is included in a retro collection.
By the way, Fractured Furry Tales sold less than 9,000 copies, according to Atari.
@Fiendish-Beaver Bubsy 3D is technically the first Bend Studio game to be released on an Xbox console lol
@Questionable_Duck There are quite a few Jaguar games in the Atari 50 collection. I'm guessing that's why the Jaguar version is in this with it being published by Atari.
The Mega Drive Bubsy game was a mediocre platformer but Bubsy 3D is the worst game I have ever played and by some distance. Bubsy 3D is the game you introduce your kids to if you want them to have a different hobby
I've seen they have updated the controls of Bubsy 3D and from the clips I've seen that probably elevates its score from a 1/10 to maybe a 2 as it still has awful visuals and dreadful level design.
@Banjo- Microsoft is adverse to well-selling trends, and usually show up late-- if ever.
@Banjo- to be fair this is just a remaster which Banjo already got.
@K1LLEGAL Yeah, the Xbox remasters are better than the originals. All of Rare's Xbox 360 games were upgraded to native 4K which is very nice, but considering Sea of Thieves one of the best-looking games of the last generation, especially the environments and the visual effects, I wonder how faithful remakes would look in the right hands. 😊
I see that the bit about "enhanced resolutions and frame rates" comes from the store page, but what is the basis for that? All of these seem to be straight emulations, with all the same resolutions, plus the PS1 game still being stuck at 30fps.
Is this some kind of 10% truth, like the Metal Gear Solid collection being "1080p"? This kind of thing really bugs me, seeing as:
1. It's a missed opportunity to improve the games (and potentially get existing owners to double-dip).
2. It's a lie, for all intents and purposes!
3. It muddies the water, and now people are now going to quote the false figures all over the internet, as usual.
But they already released Croc….
Some studios have to close because their games were only okay while others intentionally release bad games. What an industry.
@Banjo- Not every Mascot Conker is still sitting in bar somewhere getting drunk while waiting for that phone call from Phil Spencer.
@Areus That game is incredible, so well written and voiced.
I used to play this game for Sega I actually like it I know it wasn't the best but I actually do like it
Oh I didn't read the full article I was married to is bubsy 3D oh boy I thought they was talking about the Sega ones cuz the Sega ones was not that bad
If it's getting a remastered bubzy 3D I think they're going to make a lot of improvements I don't think it's going to be so bare bones and bad controls I believe it's going to be real better so it won't look like a game demo they're probably going to make a lot of improvements to it
I’d actually play Busby 3D remaster to be honest so long as they do update the controls and of course the graphics so they actually put some effort into them unlike the original.
The mega drive games were decent plats of you liked a challenge, so with all the hate for it all I can see is if you are old enough to have played it back then you weren't up to the challenge and younger going back playing it, well we all know how you hate a challenge.
