Xbox Next-Gen Console Plans 'Not Impacted' By Microsoft Layoffs

As news about today's Xbox layoffs continues to trickle in, we're hearing about potentially large-scale job losses and cancelled games - but apparently, one area that won't be affected to any major degree is Xbox's next-gen console plans.

Windows Central says in its report today that it can "hard confirm" this, stating that "Xbox hardware has largely avoided the cuts". The outlet mentions that a "full successor" to the Xbox Series X remains in the plans going forward.

"Windows Central understands that this latest layoff round has not impacted Microsoft's next-gen Xbox hardware plans, which include a full successor to the Xbox Series X that could even possibly include Steam support."

As you probably remember, Xbox announced its next-gen console strategy back in the middle of June, committing to a new home console as part of its "next-gen hardware lineup" that also includes handheld, PC and Xbox Cloud Gaming.

If there's any good news to come out of today, this is probably the best we can hope for. Unfortunately, everything else seems pretty bleak right now, and we wish the best to everyone affected by today's Xbox layoffs.
