Rumour: Xbox-Branded Meta Quest VR Headset To Be Unveiled Next Week

Update []:

It seems a first look at the device has already leaked on social media this evening:

Original Story: It's been a busy time for Xbox announcing new hardware recently, and it sounds like it's going to happen again before the end of the month - according to a new rumour which suggests an "Xbox Quest 3S" VR headset is on the way.

This is coming from Kevin Lopez at Game Sandwich, who says the device will essentially be a "newly colored Meta Quest 3S with various Xbox add-ons" including an Xbox controller and three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

"According to our sources, Meta will be shadow dropping an Xbox branded Meta Quest 3S on Tuesday, June 24."

As you can see, the report mentions that the Xbox-branded Meta Quest 3S will be "shadow dropped" on June 24th, which seems to suggest it'll become available for purchase on the same day it's announced. The belief is that it's going to cost $399 at launch, and it'll feature a "black and green headset" unlike the standard white version.

And by the way, Meta has confirmed in the past to be working on a VR headset with Xbox, stating all the way back in April of 2024 that the headset would be a "limited edition" model "inspired by Xbox". It's taken a long time to come to fruition, but it sounds like it's finally ready to go!

Inevitibly, there's going to be speculation that Xbox is working on VR versions of its games as a result of this announcement, but there's no indication that's the case. Instead, it seems they're just highlighting the ability to stream Xbox Cloud Gaming titles to the headset, which has been possible via a dedicated app for a couple of years now.

We'll hopefully get more details on Tuesday, but based on what we know so far, it's best to take this as an Xbox-branded Meta Quest 3S with no major differences from the standard Quest 3S - aside from a colour change and some Xbox-focused add-ons. If there's anything extra on top, that'll just be a bonus!
