Talking Point: Have This Month's Announcements Made You Excited About Xbox Again?

This is the best xbox has ever been and the future looks even better.

I still say I am enjoying gaming more now than ever (been gaming since the NES). Xbox has some seriously great features and are pumping out great games on a consistent basis. The next xbox and it's suite of devices really has me intrigued and excited.

Never lost interest. Having said that, I don't care about a next console yet. We're still getting games for last gen.

If they mean what I think they mean - then hell yeah! Backwards compatibility, Steam, and death of the mandatory online paywall - what’s not to like? It’s perfection, combining the best of PC and console into one ultimate gaming machine. It’s my dream product.

I am enjoying what I have now and letting the future take care of itself.

As for the future all we have just high level overviews and the devil is in the details so it's still to early for me be excited.

Nope, not at all. Third party branded hardware, console, PC hybrid that runs on Windows and no exclusive titles to make the eco-system enticing.

None of that sounds good to me, I don't have an interest in any other 3rd party games publishers in this way so why would I with Xbox.

I think there are still too many unknowns for me to get my hopes up for Xbox, for me the ecosystem, the profile and the achievement system is something quite important and I still don't know how all the pieces are going to fit together.

On the other hand I think they are doing what is necessary to face the evolution of the industry, I think that in 15-20 years there are much more probabilities that Xbox will still be there, than Playstation.

I’ve been a PlayStation kid since 1998 but Sony’s declining creativity since the late PS4 generation made me transition to playing more Switch stuff but keeping my PS4 (now PS5) around for games I couldn’t play (or play well) on Switch.

Now, as Sony’s hubris continues and the idea of a more PC leaning Xbox coming around, I’m definitely leaning towards having the next Xbox around with Game Pass than the PS6.

This gen seems a bit of a wash. I think the big 3 have released more hardware than software(/s). Switch, switch v2, switch lite, switch oled, switch 2, xbox series x, seris s, x digital, s digital, ps5, ps5 digital, ps5 slim, ps5 pro, ps portal, psvr2. Now we got the asus rog xbox ally, oculus xbox version(for what? The vr games we're flooded with?).

And now with the talk of next-gen already, Im just tired. Consoles were supposed to be easy, last the generation, and play the games, but they kind of just morphed into low budget pcs with mid-gen refreshes being needed, etc. Might as well buy a pc and upgrade when necessary.

Not in the slightest, mainly because I've been enjoying their games recently so was already excited for those and their upcoming games. As for their hardware or PC's with some Xbox logos on, they're not products that I have any interest in but as already said, I'm excited for their games

No because the ‘announcements’ have mainly been vague marketing jargon. If the absolute best case scenario happens where they release an affordable console that plays all my Xbox, PC and Gamepass games then I’ll get excited. Until then I will assume Xbox are doing what they do best which is hyping up their fanbase to eventually disappoint them

I'm very excited. I think, as I've said before, next Xbox will turn more heads than any Xbox before it. I think it's going to be wide open, massively accessible, powerful, heavy with features, and much more beyond. From all we've heard (leaked and confirmed) it's going to be a freakin' beast.

I'm excited on Xbox/gamepass this year because it's been absolutely stackedon gamepass the amount of new great games I played this year because of it and there is loads on the way and the odd purchase aswell along the way I've never had so many new games to play!!
The only problem is finding the time to get through them all!!
Dispite the negativity around Xbox all the time in my opinion there has never been a better time to own an Xbox with gamepass then right now!!

Let's assume, just for a moment, that this "all singing all dancing, super-dooper, all powerful" system actually becomes reality, (I don't believe it will and think the Xbox faithful are getting a might carried away), you can guarantee one thing - it won't be cheap and will have limited mass market appeal.

Microsoft will have handed over the next generation to Sony with a bow on it.

The message I’ve taken especially from the past 1.5 years is that generally if you wait long enough, you’ll get to play the games you want to play on your hardware of choice. That theme continues like FF7 Remake and FF16 no longer being PS console exclusive, the vast majority of the Xbox showcase coming to PS5 and the teases about next gen Xbox having Steam.

So I think in the end regarding the next batch of consoles (Switch 2, PS6, next gen Xbox), I’ll only need a Switch 2.

I learned nothing this week. If you're of the opinion that MS is stringing along what is left of the Xbox fan base to get a few more years of sales out of us while they transition away from Xbox and towards mobile, nothing this week was substantial enough to change that. It's going to take a piece of hardware and a real plan, not word salad.

@NishimuraX Yes I guess I am trying to will it into existence! I’ve been very critical and negative on the direction that Xbox has been heading in over the past year and a half. I’m aware that some of the community here have found that grating. Now that I finally have reason to be positive about the brand again it feels so good!

@Titntin like you I already have a PC, but I think this is perfect for me. This would allow me to access my Steam library on my TV via a controller-friendly interface. Play Anywhere theoretically already provides this kind of functionality, but in reality it really doesn’t because only 5-10% of the Xbox library supports it (it also doesn’t do anything for all the games that skip Xbox).

They are funding/bringing quality games to GamePass yes, also bringing long overdue games to the Xbox ecosystem, and committed to at least one more Microsoft built console yes fairly good but honestly a bit late conformations on the last two.

Otherwise the Xbox Ally and this Xbox Oculus, no waste of time/resources/marketing.

@VeganHerpes Yeah that's where I'm at for next gen, I plan on just going with a new gaming PC and sticking to that because I am tired of all the forced and overpriced subscriptions as well as all the nonsense with the present day industry. Why stick to consoles when they become more PC like? Might as well just get a PC where I can have the freedom to run whatever OS I choose, play games online without needing a subscription, and freely upgrade the hardware whenever and however I like.

To me the appeal of consoles feels like it's mostly been lost by this point, especially when it comes to Xbox. I liked the simplicity and enhanced access to all my backlog, but the consoles I already have seem to give me all the backlog access I could want and as far as I can tell no consoles besides the Switch 2 are going to have much in the way of exclusives.

I can only say the same thing as always. As long as Microsoft doesn't forget their own player base with a disc collection, I'm excited for another generation.

Game consoles always had a uniqueness to them, that was their appeal, but that is now sadly being eroded it would seem. I've already a more than competent gaming PC at my disposal and money is no object should I need to upgrade. IF the next Xbox is just some hybrid then I've zero interest in it. Microsoft can't sell me an inferior version of something I already own.

Nothing the Xbox has discussed in the post few months have been of any interest to me and the overall state of the industry has been miserable since 2014. This year has seen a decent uptick in quality and I know there are at least two major games I'm excited for next year (Fable and Perfect Dark) but otherwise I haven't seen anything to give me much optimism going forward. It takes new consoles time to pick up steam. It took Series X/S 5 years and now they're ready to drop it for a new platform and start the whole thing over. Just not for me and unless they opt for a purely Xbox-branded PC, I have no interest in purchasing shut more consoles going forward.

@husker42c Price will certainly be a factor, but I think they'll do what Sony did (quite rightly) and make a machine - same spec - disk and diskless, both with varying storage space. I think we will probably be looking at the 400/500 mark.

@NishimuraX Perhaps. We can all but see where time takes us, but I think we will be very surprised. MS, for their shortcomings, have made some great moves this gen. Specifically to their studios, staff shuffling, and output. I think they know all they need to do is pull no punches on the hardware now to have all their chicks accounted for.

MS and Sarah Bond previously stated the next Xbox will the biggest generational leap ever for a console. That really worries me with regards to the price of this new next gen console. Yes, I'm excited with the next gen console coming, but will most gamers be able to afford it...

Im defunitely excited to ger the ROG xbox ally x. Im excited for the next console as well to get a chance to play some PC games since i only have consoles

@Kaloudz I'd be incredibly surprised to see an all singing all dancing console that comes in at 4-500.

I'm backing somewhere in the region of £8-900 and that might be conservative at this point.

My reasoning? How do they subsidise this expensive hardware if they aren't selling games in their eco-system?

Gamepass subs have flat lined and Steam would be the cheaper option for a lot of games. Subsidising hardware without a way to make a significant return is just not viable.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, @Kaloudz, you are getting carried away once more! How can you expect to see a new console that is more powerful than the Series X, has more features than any console ever, gives us access to Steam and other store fronts, and yet costs less than the Series X, which currently costs more than £600? How exactly do you expect that to happen?

Just look at the PS5 Pro. That thing is completely inferior to what you are expecting Microsoft to produce, and costs £700 or £800. How on Earth can you possibly expect Microsoft to produce something more powerful than the Pro, and yet not at the very least expect it to come in at £700? Truthfully, with all the things people keep assuming that Microsoft are going to be giving us with this next PC/Console, it will very likely be north of £900.

I'm sorry me ol' mucker, but you are so very likely to be disappointed when the next Xbox is formally announced, either because of what it features (or doesn't!), or because of its price.

My belief is that Microsoft will be going down one of two paths; either a machine that they make and which they know will be a niche product and will cost close to a grand, or maybe it will be a product that is slightly cheaper than that, but will have been made by someone other than Microsoft, but will have a nice shiny Xbox logo slapped on it, which thus somehow classifies it as an Xbox...

I guess your not excited about playstation either because they nolonger have exclusive titles either. If it's on pc than it's on an xbox

No. Simply because the direction they are heading seems to be to slap an xbox logo on anything and class it as such. This feels like a very slippy slope.

It all just feels like the new strategy is to slap a badge on something and call it an Xbox. It's the least exciting strategy then could have chosen.

As for the potential of a hybrid PC I don't see anything there to excite me, it will be a costly weak PC. I would rather see real console innovation.

I’m a little checked out on new games! I think something will have to come out for me to be inspired to play it. Until then I’m very backwards facing and thankfully this is a great console to do so

With MS making their own licensed handheld less of an Xbox than the competition and the leak that they’re now releasing a VR headset with no games.

The Series X is a failure by every metric and should be treated as a high end Xbox One. The rumors were true MS is sunsetting the brand.

I’m not excited but I’m optimistic. I’m sure there’s great stuff to come and I’m looking forward to the official reveals and releases for their big games in 2026.

@Medic_alert Positive thinking 🤔 and I'm basing it on what MS has got right this gen so far. No one can deny that after years of drought, we here are eating better than any at the moment. I don't think, even for all their faults, they will drop the ball.

Honestly, the way gaming is going at the moment I am not too excited for the future. Maybe I am growing old? This next Xbox is everything the Series console should have been, but I guess it wasn’t the right time yet. I am down for an Xbox that’s the cross (X get it) box between Console and PC, what it essentially should have always been. If the specs are great and the launch games are truly next gen (no cross gen stuff), I’d be willing to splash 499 for it. I can only imagine what’s been cooking up from their developers for next gen! My biggest wish is we get AI games, with flexible quests, story lines and NPCs acting like real people and please just let games run 4K 60fps.

@Kaloudz i hope you are right and i'm completely wrong to be honest. It would be a massive win for consumers and place the next Xbox in a position where it would be pretty much impossible to ignore.

For me though 6 months of good games in 5 years, a tonne of price rises making their current systems uncompetitive, going for third party hardware over their own and selling less and less Xbox consoles does not scream a company who is about to release a very high end and cheap console.

But we will see.

@Fiendish-Beaver I agree with the notion that the next Xbox is probably not gonna be affordable. However, the PS6 won't be, either.

There's pretty much a zero percent chance that the PS6 will be equal to or less than $700. It will probably be $800 minimum. Could even be $900 if Sony raises the price of its consoles due to tariffs.

When the PS6 costs that much money, a $1000 Xbox won't sound that crazy in comparison

@NishimuraX To be fair, if the next Xbox can play both all Xbox console games and all PC games, then it would be superior to the PC you own right now. In this scenario, the next Xbox would by far be the platform with the most games, more so than even PC.

However, it remains to be seen if this is what actually happens.

I wasn't feeling 'concerned' about the future of Xbox. I couldn't care less if Consoles or Physical Media do become Obsolete, I don't care about the Box or whether its the bigger seller. I care about Games and throughout my nearly 50yrs of gaming, old games and hardware get left behind as new technology arrives.

No one is making Pac-man, Space Invaders or Centipede type games these days, certainly not AAA and most don't really care about 'preservation' of games, they only care about their Games.

Therefore MS's approach does seem to be in the better position - I won't 'need' to buy another 'box' just to play a handful of games I want to play that I can't play 'elsewhere', on devices I prefer or already have, Digital Future provides that 'flexibility' to a degree - although still 'locked' to an Ecosystem - buy from Steam or Xbox, your 'licence' to access is only through Steam or Xbox ecosystem.

Were any of these people who say this is the best Xbox has ever been around during the 360 days? That was the best Xbox has ever been, the real glory days.
Current Xbox is as exciting as a trip to the dentist, which is a real shame.

I'm cool with that, @Kaloudz. I'd love to be proven wrong on the combination of all these expected features, and the price coming in at £500 or less. It would be an impressive feat, and worth celebrating. If I'm wrong, I'll happily admit it.

On the other hand, if myself, @Medic_alert and indeed, @Questionable_Duck are right that the price is north of that, then I would like a 500 (or 900 words if it costs £900) word formal apology that states we will never have our wisdom questioned again, and that you, @Kaloudz, will attempt to refrain from becoming overly excited in the future. It might have a few more Xbox games, but that is all. Such a system would still be way behind the curve in every other department and it definitely won't have DRM free GoG, or emulation which provides access to almost every single game right back to day dot. So no, your comment is an absolute nonsense take.

@Ichiban I was around through the 360 era and I'd say that era was probably the 'golden-age' for Gaming. That was mostly down to the Publishers and Game Devs having the ability to make decent games in a year or two at most so you had a lot of games - especially 3rd Party releasing every year. Activision would release multiple games EVERY year but that dried up as CoD required either more time or more staff to ensure it releases annually and so they stopped making as many games. EA too and 2k - games like BioShock, Dead Space, FEAR, Lost Planet, Prototype, Guitar Hero etc all helped that generation.

Of course we saw Halo and Gears and Forza from MS but by the end of the 360 gen, both Halo and Gears had 'Lost' their Studios with Epic and Bungie giving up those IP's to MS. Apart from some 3rd Party deals (like CoD, Bioshock, Mass Effect etc) and 2nd Party Games (like Forza Horizon and Crackdown), MS had 'few' games - less if you don't count multiple Halo, Gears and Forza games every few years.

That's also part of the difference, you won't get 3 or 4 Gears, Halo, Uncharted etc games a Generation like you did back in the 360/PS3 era because games are taking 5yrs+ - even for sequels. 5yrs between Horizon ZD and Horizon FW, 5ys+ between God of War and GoW:R, 5yrs+ between Forza 7 and its sequel etc.

Xbox is in a Stronger position today as they own More Studio's, More IP's etc that are 'assets' to Xbox which is their 'entire' Gaming division - its NOT just the Console. They only got into Consoles to bring PC gaming to the mainstream and now PC's are becoming affordable and/or mainstream too. OK you may need to pay a bit more for 'equivalent' Graphics and Framerates, but they aren't Subsidised or force gamers to buy Subscriptions because Content and the option to play with friends online is behind a paywall - which saves money over time!!

@Kaloudz I don't see how? PC gamers like to tinker and upgrade. Steam Machines failed, Steam Decks failed. Console gamers want plug and play. Trying to side load things or confuse people isn't going to turn heads, it's going to turn traditional console owners to PlayStation.

@NishimuraX I don't know if you deleted yourself or the message was deleted for being too rude/insulting, but losing the Hardware 'war' is insignificant when you are winning the Gaming revenue battle. Microsoft have moved above Sony, further ahead of Nintendo in Gaming Revenue despite 'losing' the Hardware war.

Microsoft Windows, MS DirectX (the reason they got into the Console hardware business was to make DirectX the standard and bring PC gaming to mainstream in an affordable box) and Microsoft Xbox are all Microsoft - its all part of the same Company. Now 25yrs later, PC gaming is affordable - you can buy gaming PC's for Console money that can be upgraded, that don't hide content or playing with friends behind a Paywall etc. 5yrs of basic Game Pass Core/PS+ Essential will be almost as much as the Console cost on top.

MS are laughing to the bank with their gaming releases - selling 'more' games a year than Sony or Nintendo do and Games are most important to a Gamer and MS, with their more service driven and Software based business understand. MS are 'not' really a Hardware company - but still make Surface Laptops/PCs despite not being the most popular hardware brand for PC's. Its the sale of Windows Licences, sales of Software or annual subscription/licence fee to keep using their Software - they are first and foremost though Software based where as Sony is much more Hardware and Sales driven so 'sales' are most important.

@BAMozzy PlayStation still earns around 10 billion more a year than Xbox, despite Microsoft going multiplatform and buying Activision and Zenimax.

If they want out of hardware they should just do it. Realistically they are giving long time fans false hope. A PC isn't a console, slapping Xbox on a VR headset or a PC handheld doesn't make those things an Xbox.

Outside of Forza Horizon 5 selling 2 million and Sea of Thieves selling 1.5 million on PlayStation, what has sold well? Hi-Fi Rush flopped, Pentiment flopped, Indiana Jones flopped, Doom The Dark Ages flopped, Grounded flopped, Age Of Empires flopped.

Realistically the only thing Microsoft did was kill their own brand by doing this. Maybe a short term gain on the books now, but long term without more consoles sold, they will lose out on people paying subscriptions, microtransactions, buying software ECT

They make 1+ billion a year on Fortnite Microtransactions alone. Most of their Game Pass subs are from console. If you sell more consoles you can sell more games, subs and microtransactions.

As for the topic at hand regarding sales I don't really care. I'm not a shareholder so who "wins" is of no consequence to me.

I do agree, though, that Microsoft should either continue to be properly involved in the console market or not. All this one foot in one foot out malarkey is a nonsense and, as you suggest, will only lead to disappointment for long term fans and confusion for the mass market.

No, I'm not excited. I don't see how Xbox improves sales outside of North America as those have always been surprisingly bad. Inside North America, it's getting worse than last Gen. Who is actually going to buy a new one?

Back compat is consistent, I don't expect them to jump to another architecture. That's a good thing, we don't need more messing around. So to me that's not exciting, it's good so it's not boring in a bad way, it's good to see them keep it going. Competition is nice to see but it's also boring competition too so I hardly care. Consistency good, competition is boring.

Microsoft has 'variety' but unlike PS1 to 3/PSP/VIta Sony that had variety it had more creativity. Xbox hasn't had OG Xbox/360 level design game design in years so why would i be excited?

But it's also not new licenses like Nintendo/Sony are offering it's just enhancing or consistency. That's on third parties more so then Microsoft but even still. It's boring but it's good boring is how I'd put it.

But the rest, I haven't cared about this whole generation on PS5/Series S and X, Switch 1/2 at all.

The handheld is branding, it's something but besides how well it runs and an OS side of things or Impulse Triggers keep going yay, it's pretty who cares. It's like Portal, a safe 'experiment' and a very boring one. I get why.

But eh I can go without them. It has it's place no doubt, but it's not good or bad boring it's just neutral, it's 'there'. I don't care.

Even if there was a Xbox/PS handheld I don't like the game design direction these days to care at all to buy them. The console gimmicks will be boring as well, so why bother.

Portability is not a selling point, nor trophies. Gimmicks are to me. Because without those and boring game design why would i bother. Games in the past being experimental I didn't mind gimmicks or not, with no experimentation just 'you start the trend or else we follow' design of gaming. What is there to get excited for.

Nice to have, can go without. Switch to me it's gimmicks were boring but it had old games or decent Nintendo niche games. Otherwise to me I couldn't care less for it, it continues what other consoles previously did, a few other ideas sure but eh splitting joycons is good, but HD Rumble sucks, IR is underused when they can backwards use them for Wii or other uses, cool, nice to have, hardly exciting. Switch 2 is also boring, library will build, but boring device.

Games are gameplay boring with too much focus on story, graphics or being as copy paste repetitive and accessible worlds/ground with no imagination needed to play, so yeah I haven't been excited in the slightest.

I played 3 PS5 games, hated them all. Ratchet/GT7 were the worst of those series execution yet and Space Marine 2 was a 1.5, good but not exciting.

Xbox, not touched once, I touched the Xbox One on 'occasion' was still boring but had it's use. Series S/X have their benefits but the same bland OS I hate on Xbox One over it's Series time span and besides it's eh prior Xbox One OS revisions that some were good, some were bad, Series era, some were good, some were bad/still in the bad one.

I used my PS3 more then PS4 during it's early period, I haven't touched current gen more than 1%. Because there is no need for me to. It's not that third parties are all I care for or they go to PS4/Xbox One it's that the game design sucks for both 1st/3rd party so most games aren't even worth a look at.

The gimmicks are eh. Quick resume is ok but even if digital only and I don't do digital on Xbox it's still a fair idea, it's no dual screen/multi app/games use more flexibly like a phone/PC but it's something. Impulse trigger still here yay.

Part 2:
I haven't liked the way consoles are going since 2013, maybe 2015, more so 2017+ when I started collecting and researching niche, popular, failed, successful, peripherals, consoles, games, anything to see what ideas and approaches have been done.

When I can see better use of trends ideas in the past and hate modern it's because of quality/effort, not nostalgia.

That's 10 years of disappointment and lack of interest in game design or console features being boring, bland and just a PC with less interesting gimmicks then prior years and games so grounded and bland I wonder why anyone would even bother the worlds are done to death and boring.

I don't see the appeal they haven't done anything exciting with those worlds mechanically or thematically at all, so besides non pathetic Indies (many bad ones that are just as unoriginal slop with lacking potential) and retro games or odd AAs that aren't the ones people bring up.

I've been excited about Xbox for quite some time now, the announcements from Microsoft & AMD definitely have me excited for the future of Xbox! It sounds like we will get new consoles, handhelds and updated Xbox Cloud Gaming in the future all of which I'm ecstatic about. This generation specifically taught me that PlayStation has lost sight of what made PS4 beloved (great exclusives) instead they've been wasting resources on finding a live service golden goose. Xbox in 2025 is absolutely brilliant! their consoles are great, their games are amazing, their release cadence is unmatched, and gamepass ultimate is still the best subscription in the industry. It looks like the vision of Xbox is getting clearer, they want to be the best place to play games no matter where you're playing and I for one will be playing on Xbox. Happy gaming ✌️

Where have all the first-party games that have symbolized Xbox since its inception gone?

As an adult, I like it, and giving them a second look.

But there are concerns. Putting the Xbox name on a handheld that can’t play the vast majority of Xbox games is going to be confusing to the average American. Sure, if you are a PC gamer this makes a lot of sense.

But let’s not kid ourselves here. This isn’t far off from putting a Porsche logo on a Honda Civic, and selling it as the Honda Porsche Civic.

I don’t think people immediately think about the Dashboard when they think about Xbox. They think of games, their games. Not the Dashboard and its UI that seems to randomly change every 2 years.

This messaging desperately needs to be cleaned up. Right now it’s a total mess.

I think it's going to be an animal of a machine with the Xbox store and steam basically confirmed for it why not go crazy!!

@Ricky-Spanish I know right?! I don't think it will be long until we have a reveal. I reckon it gets the lid lifted on it next year at the showcase, for a 2027 release (or a reveal at the 2027 showcase for a late 2027 release). Is it just me, or does this gen feel like it's flown by lol.

@NishimuraX hate to break it to you, but Microsoft already handed over the keys to the generation when they announced their multiplatform strategy. Gamepass has done all it can for hardware sales and there’s nothing else to differentiate Xbox from PlayStation. Sony have been uncontested in the high end console market for a long time now.

Only solidified my choice moving back to PC tbh.

@Master_Cthulhu70 my feelings on PS exactly. I loved them for so many years, but at the moment they've lost sight of what makes PS games special. Hopefully they make a bit of a comeback end of gen, but for now Xbox better suits my game tastes

@Kaloudz It has and to be honest it's probably due to the COVID outbreak and the fact we basically lost the first two years of this gen to it we are only really seeing what these machines can do now because of it!
But yeah I'm super hopeful for the new Xbox aswell why not hope it's going to be amazing and sell better then the last two generations machines!
I am biased though I'll admit that but so far it sounds like there are trying something different to Sony that could be amazing and possible put them back on top again 🤷

No I totally agree with you. I think this next one will be the big hitter that they've been waiting for - something to round off all the output success they've had lately. It's a shame they didn't have this output in the X1 gen, because that would have really, really tipped in their favour.

I’ll always be Team Green. Not in a fanboy way, i’m just invested in the ecosystem, my friends and my kids play Xbox. I can’t be bothered switching around (just like i’ll always be IOS, it’s too much hassle). That being said i’m very excited for what’s next. I’ll be buying ROGS day one if i can, i love handheld gaming and this on first impression is what i’ve been waiting for…. i’m all in for the announcements and believe it’s the way to go….. and the whole ‘it’s not an xbox’ it’s not a console etc etc is a total misnomer to me….. if i’m using the Xbox ecosystem , i can access some of my games etc i couldn’t care less whether it’s through a windows device or a dedicated console… the games the game no matter how it’s being played. Exciting times

Even in light of Sony's apparent complacency I think it's safe to say that the glory days of PS1, 2 and to a lesser extent 3, are long behind us.

And you do realise you can emulate thousands of games on Xbox consoles right now, right?

I don't care if it isn't happening or not. I'm saying that, if the next Xbox can play both Xbox console and PC games, it would be objectively better than your current PC. That's all.

@TheGameThrifter I agree with most of your comment, but Grounded definitely didn't flop. It was a massive commercial success, had tens of millions of players despite being made by a tiny team at Obsidian.

If Grounded was a flop, we wouldn't be getting a Grounded 2 next month.

It's not just Sony, though. Much of the AAA industry keeps churning out rubbish, rubbish that the gaming press and community alike keep going gaga over.

Thankfully there's still many a smaller studio out there, like Warhorse, who can deliver premium products with less than half of the budget. Talent will always outshine greed.

@NishimuraX I agree. Recently ish I did really enjoy both Indiana Jones and South of Midnight, but I have fonder memories of cocoon, tunic and sea of stars. E33 is my current game and as an RPG fan it's utterly essential

Aside from brilliantly capturing the mood of the movies I wasn't all that taken with Indy I'm afraid. Not played South of Midnight. Haven't seen anything about it to capture my interest.

33 is in my back catalogue.

I'm not saying the next Xbox will have access to all Xbox console games and all PC games, or that Microsoft said this this will happen. However, IF it does, it will objectively have access to the most games of any other platform, more so than the average PC. A device that has access to all PC storefronts, plus one that can also natively play all Xbox console games, would be great.

Also, even current Xbox consoles have more freedom than the average console. Like I said in my previous comment, which you seem to have ignored, you can emulate thousands of PS1/2, Xbox 360, GameCube, SNES, Game Boy, 3DS, etc. games on your Xbox right now via dev mode. Obviously, it's not as convenient as on PC, but still.

Haven't been excited for anything Xbox related since the 360 era.
