It's strange to me how many companies seem to constantly be making new Xbox controllers considering the relative market share that Xbox consoles have. I assume a lot of these are aimed at PC gamers.
It's still really crazy to me how different the current games industry would be if Xbox hadn't completely fluffed the Xbox One reveal and launch.
They were on such a high after the 360 generation and if they had launched it as a games machine, no DRM, without Kinect and with backwards compatibility, the gaming landscape would be nothing like it is now.
Asha seems to be saying and doing a lot of good things but it will take a monumental effort to ever have them overtake PlayStation.
@Katiecooh I said the Series X|S generation is third out of 4 generations hardware wise - meaning Xbox hardware generations, as there have been 4 generations of Xbox hardware. But it is by far the most profitable Xbox generation out of the four generations due to Game Pass and digital sales.
@masofdas I'm not going to correct your grammar and punctuation because that would take far longer than I'm willing to type. But, I would like to point out that most Xbox exclusives aren't available on any other console.
The Series X|S generation is currently 3rd out of 4 when it comes to hardware sales but is by far the most profitable of all 4 because of digital sales and Game Pass.
It's easy to forget sometimes with all the doom and gloom over the last few years.
So many haters here. The Series S is an incredible machine and given how the industry is heading, having a lower priced entry point to the same generation of games is something that should continue.
Exclusives will return by default once the hardware is irrelevant after the next generation of Helix and PS6.
Can you watch The Simpsons on Netflix? No.
Can you watch Fallout on Disney+? No.
Can you watch Stranger Things on Prime Video? No.
Gaming won't go full streaming anytime soon, but Xbox games will be tied to the Xbox store and PlayStation games will be tied to the PlayStation store.
@Balaam_ Well that's a ridiculously obvious comment. The only reason any business in the history of the world has ever run a business is to try and make a profit.
What still makes me laugh is the fact that both PlayStation and Xbox have been scaled back PCs in a box for a very long time. The days of consoles being very unique pieces of hardware are a distant memory.
I remember the days when the Mega Drive and SNES would get the same title released yet get completely different games. That never happens now.
So much negativity here. I assume most of this is from non Xbox fans.
They have doubled down on new console hardware. Recommitted to backwards compatibility. Are making ongoing improvements to the current system. Have a first party portfolio that is unparalleled.
@KPS Massive goalpost shift??? My original comment spoke of all generations of PlayStation. You decided to jump in and make it about the fifth year of PS4 vs the fifth year of PS5.
@KPS You're using a faulty metric that suits your argument. You mention PS5's fifth year as if it's some kind of saviour for the previous 4.
MLB - only baseball fans care
Marathon - multiplatform Concord 2
GoW SoS - nobody cares
Saros - TBC if it's good
Wolverine - TBC if it's good
Horizon HG - already hated by PS fans
Kena Sequel - tiny franchise, tiny interest
Marvel Tokon - niche game, may be good
4:Loop - nobody cares
You've proven my point that Sony have been poor throughout this entire generation.
I have played my PS3 as my main PlayStation this entire generation because the quality and quantity of games is far higher.
The Xbox One X is such a beautiful piece of hardware.
It's also crazy to think how different the industry would probably be if the Don Mattrick version of events never happened and the Xbox One era began with Phil's strategy.
I've always seen it as a nice bonus if the head of a gaming company is a gamer. Not a prerequisite. I'd rather they know how to run a business than beat my high scores.
I think the late Satoru Iwata was the person that everyone (unfairly) gets compared to. If they're not as passionate about playing games as he was then their ability to be a CEO falls by the wayside. Ridiculous.
@somnambulance You can easily search. Do you think people at Nintendo played through every game and gave an opinion on whether it was good and gave it a Seal of Quality? The Seal of Quality was a fantastic marketing tool that said "this game will work on our system". They had stringent rules over who could develop for their platforms and they made sure they actually worked. Something Atari didn't care about.
@somnambulance The Nintendo Seal of Quality was never about the quality of the game. It was purely to state that a game would function as intended on the system. Atari had basically allowed anyone to make games for the 2600 and there was a huge amount of non-functioning crap that make consumers wary about buying anything.

I'd really like to see Horace Luke design the new console.

Re: Xbox To Share More Info On Project Helix In 'Game Dev Update' Show Next Week
I will definitely be buying the next Xbox. The next generation will be my last before I quit "modern" gaming.
I already have a backlog that will last me until the day I die so Helix and PS6 will be more than enough alongside my other 40+ consoles.

It probably could have been clearer.
Re: Reaction: Xbox Is Changing For The Better, And Now Microsoft Needs To Be Consistent
@Katiecooh My comment had nothing to do with PlayStation at all so I don't know why you're bringing them into it.
Re: Poll: Which Generation Of Xbox Logo Is Your Favourite?
The current logo makes less sense as a flat, 2D object compared to the sphere it was during Xbox 360 and Xbox One generations.

What you originally wrote was nonsense.

As myself and someone said here previously, a pick and mix of options would be the best way for it to work.

I think a menu system could work quite well.
Essential - pick 2 perks from a list
Premium - pick 5 perks from a list
Ultimate - full list of perks

@GameOverScreen Why is that if you don't mind me asking?
Re: New Xbox Head Suggests Bringing Back The Blades Dashboard In First Social Media Posts
The best console UI ever in my opinion is the PS3/PSP XMB layout. A modern version of that would be perfect for me.
I've been playing my PS3 so much this generation compared to my PS5 and I had forgotten what a joy it is to use and play. Loading times aside.
