Sony are inevitably going to have to go down this route further at some point. The spiralling costs and time of development means their current business model isn't sustainable.

They've already dipped their toes in the water with MLB and Lego Horizon and my guess is we'll see quite a few ports to Switch 2.

Once they see the money Xbox will be raking in, there will be huge pressure from the shareholders.

@IOI You can buy them on Blu-ray though.

I genuinely don't know how the devs have the time or money to be supporting this game the way that they have but, well done.

@Millionski I don't think that Microsoft will be the only manufacturers of the next Xboxes tbf.

I think the next Xbox will be the final one (as I also think the PS6 will be the last PlayStation).

I can see Microsoft going all out for its final system(s).

A handheld and an all powerful, AI driven, Windows based beast that can access PC VR games, Steam and therefore PlayStation games.

@Isolte I first played Doom 3 on the original Xbox and was absolutely blown away by the technical achievement of it. Nothing on any console was as impressive at that point.

And I loved the jump scare horror route they took.

I love the fact they've changed up the play styles across all 3 modern games.

It kind of reminds me how they aimed for something completely different with Doom 3 compared to the first two games.

@Ajfennell77 I use my PS5 solely for exclusives and I buy anything multiplatform on Xbox.

There should definitely be some kind of digital trade in or selling marketplace built into each store. It would actually be really simple for Sony and Microsoft to implement.

This has made the whole generation worthwhile for me. I adore the NG series and have replayed the 3 original games countless times on various Xboxes.

And having NG 2 Black available today is the absolute icing on the cake. So happy!

This article seems kind of pointless right now considering we have no news other than they are potentially making one.

I used to have a 16tb external HDD for my Series X but I got rid of it because it bothered me. Being able to have all of my games stored meant I could never decide what to play and ended up playing nothing. Now I actually choose what to store and and play from there.

I'd love to see Xbox go all out to support Switch 2 and hope that there will be more crossovers and collaboration between the two companies. Banjo in Mario Kart. Master Chief in the next Smash Bros. Maybe even some cross play with some of the older Rare titles or a remake of Diddy Kong Racing on both systems.

It's amazing what happens when you don't advertise your systems. Both X and S are great consoles and Game Pass is an incredible deal. Yet Microsoft seems intent on not telling the world.

I quite like that name for the final console. I also like Xbox Six.

I still don't understand why Hall Effect sticks are only now becoming standard. Sega had them in the Saturn and Dreamcast!

I still think that the PS6 and next Xbox will be the last dedicated hardware from either Sony and Microsoft. As long as there's another Xbox, as promised, I'm fine.

Beyond that generation, I believe that everything will be an app or a service like Game Pass and PS+. There will be "disguised PCs" underneath our TVs made by multiple hardware manufacturers (similar to the laptop marketplace).

Sony are currently riding high on their console sales but this will be irrelevant when there's no console to sell.

At this point, PlayStation fans will be fully invested in the Xbox IP and will happily buy those games over and over.

Haptics on PS5 really annoy me. The triggers in particular have a weird squeezy crunch to them.

The Xbox and Switch Pro controllers are my favourite ever. I'd love to see Xbox add gyro though.

Rare's output since becoming an Xbox studio has been absolutely shocking. What is going on over there? Their NES, SNES, Game Boy and N64 games were classic after classic over the course of whole generations.

It's definitely one of the greatest innovations over the last few generations.

I really liked Resistance. I am confused by the "2D" in the title though. I'm assuming it's to do with the the dimensions of the game rather than some obscure reference to judgment day 2. I remember there being something like this around the Terminator 2 movie.

@Nintendo4Sonic Do you own an Xbox? I've never heard anyone who owns an Xbox use the phrase "the Gamepass subscription". Also, it's Game Pass. Two words not one.

As an Xbox owner myself, the myth that we don't buy games is laughable.

The next gen of consoles is likely to be the last for me and the industry. Whether interest, finances or death - I'm fairly sure I'll be happy to see dedicated hardware disappear.

People really need to find better things to be upset about. The dashboard of a 19 year old console shouldn't be an issue.

@fatpunkslim You can still play the disc version on Series X. It's not the best game but I had fun with it.

@Balaam_ I keep my Game Pass subscription going constantly as a way to try before I buy. I've bought so many games after trying them first on Game Pass. Many of them I'd never heard of or would never have considered buying without playing first.

It's definitely reassuring to hear there will be more hardware. I have all 3 consoles and the Xbox UI, functionality and controllers are my favourites by far.

Microsoft have always been looking at the bigger picture.

Bespoke hardware will be irrelevant in a few years time.

The next gen will be the last hardware from both Sony and Microsoft. Then it's down to the content to fight for people's money.

I read an article a few weeks after Tango was closed that suggested too many key people left and that's why Microsoft didn't want them anymore.

I know that in other industries, if key talent leave it can completely shift the entire business.

I adore my One X and there are a few things that the Series S does worse.

Great for those who like this game but I found it to be incredibly boring.

I completely agree that it was a terrible decision. I really don't like the whole "have a hit or you're dead" ethos that some studios have to live by. Especially when they're owned by an enormous platform holder.

I actually really like Redfall and would have loved to have seen what it could have been.

It would still be nice if they even slightly tried to market their consoles every now and then.

Green on white would have looked great.

@LogicStrikesAgain Yes I do think that developers have become lazy and haven't even slightly pushed the PS5. And Sony's bad CPU is still the main problem with the PS5 Pro.

@LogicStrikesAgain Exactly my point. They want the easy route. No PS5 owner asked for it. Developers get lazy and rather than trying to push hardware, they ask for more hardware.

The most impressive PS3 games came at the end of that console's lifecycle. Because developers worked hard.
