Here we go! With the review embargo now having lifted for Gears of War: E-Day, that means we've also finally got some raw gameplay footage of both the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S versions of the game.

This is coming via numerous sources, including Digital Foundry who have shared their "big tech deep dive" for Gears: E-Day. In a nutshell, they say that it "serves as a landmark showcase for Unreal Engine 5's expanding capabilities", highlighting it as "one of the best-looking Unreal titles ever" despite some occasionally "rocky" performance.

"Ultimately, Gears of War: E-Day serves as a landmark showcase for Unreal Engine 5's expanding capabilities, developed alongside the engine in a way that allowed experimental features to become core engine capabilities. By bringing complex ray-traced lighting, Nanite character skinning and advanced geometry management to mainstream consoles, The Coalition has created one of the best-looking Unreal titles ever, beyond even what was shown in early previews.

Performance remains rocky in more open segments, especially on Series S, and hopefully some of these issues can be overcome in time. Regardless, it's exciting stuff, and this technical bedrock should leave the company in good stead as the next generation approaches."

On Xbox Series X, Gears of War: E-Day has three different modes to choose from, with those running at a native 1152p/30FPS, 1000p/40FPS and 936p/60FPS respectively. The visuals are then upscaled (using TSR). Performance is said to be consistent in linear levels, but with some occasional dips in the larger open-ended environments.

On Xbox Series S, you're still getting three modes at a native 729p/30FPS, 648p/40FPS and 576p/60FPS, and again these are upscaled. Performance still seems to be remarkably good for the most part, although the 60FPS mode is said to suffer from "frequent frame-rate drops" that can be ironed out by 120Hz VRR displays.

Overall, it seems like Gears of War: E-Day plays pretty darn well across both Xbox consoles, and The Coalition has clearly worked very hard to create a great experience regardless of where you choose to enjoy the game.

We'll leave you with a couple of raw gameplay videos from Fuzion Xbox Testing down below.
