I already downloaded and I'm trying quite a few of them. There's a lot of stuff!
Really good if you're into indie games.
@Lup Hopefully more to come! This is just what's been made publicly visible so far.
I'll update the list if/when more are added.
The last demo you recommended, which was Deadzone Rouge, @FraserG, I immediately bought!
I've already bought Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel but haven't started it yet as I am still playing Hell Is Us (which is simply superb!).
I will give the demo of Tormented Souls 2 a go though as it is unclear from the trailer what type of game it is because there is no actual gameplay. I haven't played the first game either, so I might need to look at that too...
@Fiendish-Beaver Great to hear! You enjoying it?
Nope, and to be clear, no.
I've said it here before, but for the love of god everyone try out the demo for Mina the Hollower. It's my most anticipated game of the year.
I started gaming on a Texas Instruments PC hooked up to my parents TV...so I'm old lol.
The first demos for both games and other software I can remember came on CD every month with general PC-related magazines, and then mags like Nintendo Power or other gaming specific mags. It seems like demos are making something of a comeback after IMO largely disappearing from the industry for a while. I'm really happy to see this, and I hope developers who choose to release a demo of their game find that it's financially beneficial so it'll encourage other devs to do it for their game in the future.
Sadly, I don't know if we'll ever get back to the days of single player/story demos for AA or AAA games. IMO, both because publishers/devs really don't need to use them to generate sales, and because it seems like publishers/devs prefer "controlled environments" where they can make sure the player (gaming journalist) can't do anything that might "break" or expose flaws in their game before it's released.
The demo was great, @FraserG, but I started Hell Is Us a couple of days before Deadzone released, and I'm not one for hopping around between games, so it'll have to wait a bit.
I am really looking forward to it though because it is one of those games where you keep saying to yourself, 'last run, and then I'm off to bed'. You started saying that at 11 p.m. and then finally put the controller down at 2 a.m.. So, yeah,... thanks for that! 😂
Tormented souls 2, yes please.
@Fiendish-Beaver The og tormented souls is an old school horror experience in the same vein as old resident evil games. Fixed camera, tank controls etc.
I loved it and have been waiting for thr new one for a long time.
@Fiendish-Beaver Haha, no problem! Sounds awesome 😁
Has anyone tried Yooka Replaylee? Pretty interested in that one. Wondering if its frame rate feels like a good 60fps or not. I don’t have time to check it out, unfortunately.
Update: List has now been updated with a bunch more demos! This is now the full selection for the 2025 Xbox Demo Fest.
Sounds good. Thank you, @MonsterMike...
Tormented souls 2 :0
Didn't expect that!
@NavalHistorian I also had the Texas TI99 4a. I'm still gaming at 71.
Jotunslayer and tormented souls look ok rest not so much
@Hawklord22 What was your favorite game for that system? Mine was Parsec! I wish TI would either put those games up for sale on the XBox/PS Stores or sell the rights to somebody who would. I know emulators for PC exist, but I'd love to play Parsec on my XBox and big screen TV.
I remember a defender game with the speech module. For it's time it was amazing. I don't remember that game you mentioned but I like the Idea of some of the older games going to console. Then they would get a new lease of life. Look at Elite. Still going strong and I'm still playing it. I just looked up the game you were talking about and it's the same one. It was definitely amazing for it's time
Although the Jotunslayer demo isn't actually part of the demo fest thing it's still definitely worth checking out.
When I was growing up (PS2 era-Xbox 360 era) I'd get PS2 demos from magazines, demos were everywhere on Xbox 360 and they really were a great way to learn about a game you're interested in purchasing, by actually trying it out before you buy it.
I'm actually glad to see Xbox embracing demos in the modern era, especially when we have launch disasters where games aren't even close to what's advertised. With a demo you're more likely to get a better representation of what's coming in the full release. Happy gaming ✌️
Digimon Story Time Stranger is getting a Demo on the 11th Sept.
@NavalHistorian first demos I ever played were from cassette tapes... I feel ancient now
@Markatron84 I'm really looking forward to trying this one out tonight, it's been top of my most wanted list since the first gameplay trailer
@Coletrain it's absolutely my most anticipated game of 2025. Like you, I've been looking forward to it since seeing the first trailer. Mina the Hollower hits the same way Shovel Knight did, for me personally.
@Markatron84 you know, I never played shovel knight, but it's the old school Zelda vibes that I'm loving. The pixel art looks gorgeous too which doesn't hurt!
This year has been absolutely stellar for games with old school graphics and I'm so here for it. Sea of Stars reignited my passion a couple years ago!
Ive downloaded quite a few, I like the look of the Pizza Delivery 1
I've been playing Rhythm Towers and it's actually amazing! Definitely worth a play if you like tower defense / rhythm games.
I forgot they made an AVGN game... I guess it's time to try it. Can it have as much profanity as him playing the NES ninja turtles game?
