Earlier today, an elaborate report from YouTuber eXtas1s about Xbox's apparent backwards compatibility overhaul for 2026 began attracting a lot of attention online, and many have been trying to find out more details in the hours since.
Speaking on social media a few hours later, Windows Central editor Jez Corden explained that he believes the report is "false", advising that although Xbox wants to bring more games to more places, "this particular scenario isn't on the cards today". Here are a couple of his responses that we've spotted:
For what it's worth, eXtas1s has been actively addressing the report on social media over the past few hours, responding to people with clarification about what he's heard. Based on Jez's response though, it seems he's either been misinformed by his source, or he's privy to information that even the likes of Windows Central aren't aware of.
Anyway, as we mentioned in that original story about the report, information like this should always be taken with a pinch of salt until made official - and ultimately, we're going to have to wait until 2026 to see if any part of it comes true.
