Gears Of War: E-Day Team Shares Message After Missing Xbox Games Showcase 2025

But did we get Gears 6?

No, @acmiguens, The Coalition mightily let down the fans of 4 and 5 by not concluding the series with 6. They set up this huge cliff-hanger and story arc, only to fail to release 6 before E-Day comes out. I know that not everyone enjoyed 4 and 5, but that doesn't mean they don't have their fans, and that those fans would not want to see the conclusion of that particular trilogy, preferably before they moved on to what is likely to be another trilogy starting with E-Day.

I think the only reason they have done this is because they want to take the franchise to the PlayStation, and with E-Day being a prequel, that, to them, seems to make more sense. I can see why they would do this it was the first game coming to the PlayStation, but now that they are releasing Reloaded first, that argument no longer holds true.

Who knows whether we will ever see Kate's story-arc concluded...?

Gears of War usually releases August / September time, and we usually get gameplay around a year before release. Gamescom happens in August, and I think it will be at an Xbox Showcase during this period that we will see more of E-Day. I think it is probably coming next year based on what Spencer said...

Gears of war 4 was ok but I really didn't enjoy gears 5 being open world in parts of the game it's my least favorite of the games even over tactics or judgement!

@dreadful Have you missed the sheer amount of first party games released this year so far, and games yet to come? Hell, Game Pass alone has been absolutely phenomenal.

I think this will likely be a next-gen Xbox release along with Blade. A late 2027 or mid 2028, fingers crossed.

I'm absolutely ready for Gears of War E-day! I'm a day one fan of Gears of War as it released in my early teens and it was a game that I played with friends and one of the coolest parts of Gears back then was I had friends come over to my house to specifically play Gears of War & we beat the game via local co-op which has memories that'll live with me forever.

I also own the Gears of War Ultimate Edition since day one so I am extremely grateful that I'll get Gears of War Reloaded. I plan on enjoying the hell outta Gears of War Reloaded reliving that game all over again, which will be great especially seeing how Gears of War E Day is a prequel.

Come on! In 2026 Gears E day, new Forza, Fable and probably the reboot of Halo, I understand you want everything immediately but they have so many other show cases planned and next years is the 25 years of xbox! Phil Spencer already said again in the podcast those games are coming next year

@Kaloudz some people just find whatever they can to complain. Xbox is killing it & people love to hate. If you take the 2024 showcase and add it to the 2025 showcase, you're mind will be blow with just how many BANGERS Xbox has cooking. I mean it REALLY is something to admire especially when you take into account how bad Xbox was doing with game output last generation. Xbox has finally righted that ship and has been releasing amazing game after amazing game with no signs of slowing down. I can honestly say I am so happy to be apart of the Xbox community!

Xbox has PROVEN themselves as the best place to play. With their Xbox play anywhere initiative expansion making it a massive win for consumers. Buy a game once on Xbox get a copy for PC at no extra charge with cross saves and DLC following wherever you play.

Also, the expansion of Xbox Cloud Gaming is massive because now games you own or purchase are being added to a growing list of games that can be played via Xbox Cloud Gaming whether they're on gamepass or now. This means you can literally play your games across console, PC and Cloud which essentially means your Smart TV, your tablet, your phone and whatever other device that has access to an Internet browser. Xbox is expanding massively and it's proving that they are the BEST place to play no matter where you play, that's an incredibly strong statement. Xbox has the hardware and the games to back it up.

I know this isn't really indicative of much but I was at Walmart last week, browsing the gaming isle. I was looking at Xbox accessories and I noticed there weren't any consoles on the shelf. I walked over to the PlayStation area where they had 2 PS4 consoles 2 PS5 consoles and 2 PS5 pro consoles sitting on the shelf. I went up to the guy who works in the department and struck up a conversation with him as he himself was a gamer. I asked him if they had any Xbox consoles in the back because I noticed there wasn't any on the shelves. To my surprise he told me that they had sold out of their entire inventory and they were expecting more Xbox consoles to arrive by Wednesday next week. I then went on to ask if he noticed if consoles were selling better now or when they were first released. He went on to say that he's been selling Xbox and PlayStation consoles pretty consistently. I asked if the PS4 was still selling well and he said yes which I was like WOW that's crazy but I guess it makes sense it's cheaper and has a massive library of games. Anyways I was just surprised to hear that Xbox consoles were being sold at my local Walmart pretty consistently. Now before I get the inevitable feedback of this not meaning anything, I will once again clarify, I know this doesn't represent anything & I'm not saying Xbox is suddenly selling consoles everywhere. HOWEVER I just found that conversation interesting and thought I'd share with my fellow Xbox peeps.

It's far from the only reason. I feel for fans of 4 and 5, but an overwhelming number of us felt they (the campaigns) were dogs*** and the series was inarguably fading into total irrelevance. They clearly did the math and felt it was more important to bring us back than appeal to fans of 4 and 5. And as far as PS5 goes, Kait as a protagonist vs Marcus would go over with them just as well as it has with us.

@dreadful I think we will get something on that next year. Don't get me wrong, I'm not excusing it, but I think even if they were ready to go, they'd only hold them off for next year anyway as this one is stacked.

I does need to be said though - instead of raising the costs of games from £60 - £80 in the last few years (this isn't just MS, but quite a few pubs and devs) they'd be better finding ways to cut down development costs so that they don't need to mitigate as much.

@Master_Cthulhu70 I wholeheartedly agree, much like I do with everything else you say. There's no denying that Xbox is on a roll. They're riding a freakishly high tide as of late. Their game output is unmatched, their game pass service is unrivalled, and despite a few hiccups here and there, this has, IMO (from a consumer standpoint) been their best gen since the height of the 360.

Hell, you can even argue that they had the best (non E3) show. Their catalogue looked diverse, very impressive, and very unique. They've also managed to nab a whole bunch of third party support for game pass, and that's not to mention the games that have hit the service third party this year (and we're only half way through). I honestly don't get it when people complain about Xbox being weak...

Them going multiplat for a good selection of games is a great choice and looking to the PS charts (and no doubt Nintendo soon) it's clearly doing them well - which is, as I've said a thousand times, good for the games, good for the studios, and good in-turn, for us.

@Kaloudz they HAVE found a way to cut costs. And that's by laying off thousands of staff and then outsourcing the jobs cheap in India and China and South America.

The videogame industry is creating sweatshop slave labor across the board. Why pay 100 employees in the US, Canada or UK first world wages when you can pay 1000 Indians or Chinese developers for the same cost as 100 people?

Look at how many Devs the different Rockstar studios have. 150-200 staff. Rockstar India has 1500 staff. If there was a rockstar China, which will actually probably happen. They would have 2500.

@dreadful I'm not sure I follow you? Which MS studios are overstaffed and stationed in India or China? I think saying that MS runs sweatshop-like studios is a little bit of a stretch. Layoffs aint cool, but that's not just MS, that's industry wide.

When I say cut development costs - I mean they need to either structure their management so that their teams are delivering on their ideas. Take Everwild, for instance. That game has been in development (since concept) for over ten years and from what we can tell, even that doesn't look like it's releasing next year. Perhaps 2027?

Whatever. The point is, the cost to run a studio (staff, bills, rent, equipment, licences, ect...) is not cheap. Over the span of ten years, you're looking at hundreds of millions in costs. Meaning (absent Sea of Thieves) Rare would need to sell a bucket-load to mitigate the cost of all that, before turning profit.

Surely, instead of constantly upping the cost of games, it would make more sense to lessen the cost of development. Less development time means less income is needed to mitigate the cost it took to get from concept to release. MS is a trillion dollar company but they're not a charity. They have to make money for anything to make sense to them.

There's a small handful of games that have been in the proverbial oven for too long. I excuse Fable for one reason. I think Playground are making a modern franchise out of it. It's been in development for a long time because they're more than likely going to make Fable 2, 3, etc.... and as such, they've built a foundation to realise that.

Obsidian are a shining example of how it should be done. They're a decent sized team and they're churning out games like there's no tomorrow. Outer Worlds, Grounded, Outer Worlds 2, Grounded 2, Pentiment, Avowed, etc... This is a team that clearly knows how to come up with a concept, crack on with the job, and get the product out.

If other MS studios had that sort of roadmap, there'd be a lot (a lot) less risk.

Look it up. Halo Infinites engine was an absolute ***** mess because they got cheap Indian programmers to work on it and it's such a Hodge podged spaghetti code engine that they literally couldn't even add basic content without the entire game breaking.

It took over a year just to make different armour items equippable. One of the game modes was broken for 3 months and they struggled to fix it.

This outsourcing happens for every game basically. You can look up the credits of any modern AAA game and youll see giant walls of Indian and/or Chinese names.

@dreadful I mean, I get what you're saying - but surely that's the industry norm, is it not? I'm not condoning anyone taking advantage of paying less for more, in those sort of circumstances, but, it's surely just the way things are, right?

I don't believe they will release E-Day in 2025. 2026 or may be even 2027. They can even turn it to launch title of Xbox Series Next or whatever it will be called.
