Multiple Final Fantasy Games Confirmed For Xbox, Including A Shadow Drop Today

FF16 is a decent story and one hell of a visual showcase but still has the main problem that you have to finish the game in order to play what feels like the intended version. Had they allowed Final Fantasy mode from day 1 I think it would have been better received.

I expected VII Remake sooner than fall. Not super excited for either, but super happy Square Enix is releasing on Xbox again. FF Tactics is a day one purchase for me though!

Not a FF16 fan but Remake is excellent so enjoy when it finally comes out on Xbox.

The nice thing about the FF7R release isn't that it's happened... It's that we're skipping the interim versions. We're getting the 'full' Intergrade version, meaning that SquEnix are likely to develop the other 'discs' in parallel for all platforms, and only Episode 1 was a Playstation (Timed) Exclusive.

Also, for quite a few people, for their Final Fantasy library to be able to go 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10... ...12, 13, 14, 15, 16 with the best versions in every case is epic.

Super excited for FF7R. I'll hold out on FF16 for now, but that will definitely be on my radar. I assume we get FF7R2 next year, and then FF7R3 alongside global launch.

I'm surprised it took this long for FF7 Remake to come to XBox.

Guys, I hope my Xbox friends enjoy FF16. I played it straight after Tears of the Kingdom and didn’t really fancy it. I only tried it because my wife bought it for my birthday. Two hours later, I was hooked. And nearly 80 hours later, it was (and still is) my favourite game of all time! The story is great, the music and visuals are fantastic and the Eikon boss fights are the best in all of gaming. Don’t sleep on this one, folks!

@Decimateh It's the complete version of part one. I reckon part two will be 2026 and then part 3 we get at global release.

I don't like that it's called a remake though. Seeing as it's not, but I won't go there, because to explain why would be spoiling it.

I thought 7R would come out before XVI. But just good they’re finally coming because Xbox-only players deserve to play them.

And to be transparent, I played both of them on PS5. But haven’t finished XVI. It started out great but started to lose me half way through. I need to get back to it one day.

@Kaloudz well, that depends on what it means to be FF
It's not turn-based, and in general combat is closer to DMC than other FF games. However, if you like larger than life setpieces, with behemoths fighting and effects going all over the place, it has you covered. Stakes are high all the time. Story is also different and interesting as it plays on some real life topics often avoided. Ending is a bit meh, but it was hard to close out the narrative and make all players happy.

@Cikajovazmaj Well the ending wont bother me. I was one of the few that enjoyed the ending to XV lol - so I should get on fine with that! Thanks man. I quite like DMC, and larger than life set pieces, so I may well have to pick this up.

@Decimateh You're welcome. Yeah there was a DLC for it (Yuffie) but that was about it. Seems we're getting the full package

I'm trying the FF 16 demo and it looks beautiful. Gameplay... Well, I've been playing for like an hour and there was only one tutorial fight. But it's a good movie! 🤣
Need to play a little more but the combat seems promising.

I can’t say I’ve played a FF game due to there being so many and not knowing how to start/commit to them, but I’ll never understand why people get upset that the games they love go multi-platform. Wouldn’t you be happy more people get to experience it and help finance more sequels??

@Lup Oh good, if it's got the ability to carry on from the main game after the demo I might give it a go myself. I wish more games had demos because for people like me it gives us a chance to try it rather than buy it, get hit with a fit an hour through, and lose the money because digital games cant be returned lol...

@Decimateh Mate I cant remember half the names of the spin offs, they never give them straight forward titles and I'm sure they make up their own words lol. Yeah Crisis Core is mission based and just doesn't really offer much IMO. It's a prequel.

Well I have nostalgia for only 2 games in the entire history of playstation, FFVII and FFT. Needless to say I'm having a good week.

No physical copy?!?! After anxiously and eagerly following this game since its reveal FIVE YEARS ago, to get this now with no physical copy in sight. What a slap in the face. I would've paid $100 for a physical FF16 on Xbox. Nothing for this. Go eat dirt S-E.

These are going to die on Xbox as most of the players have been conditioned to play only gamepass.

@Kaloudz FF16 was a decent enough entry that just lacked some bits that people say make it a FF title. The combat is well done and each eikon brings with it a new style of combat akin to the DMC5 weapon / character styles. The characters are well done and the set piece eikon battles are truly incredible, especially if you have an OLED to really make the colours pop.

The main issues with the game imo are that elements have no real function in the game. Each eikon has its associated element but for all intents and purposes it just a different colour of magic bolt that all do the same thing. Status effects are in the game but they only introduce them one a time and they never overlap, so each zone just has 1 status for that area. In FF mode (NG+) then they are there from the start and all present at once and it feels like how the game should have been from the start. The only other issue is the sidequest pacing towards the end is horrific, but it makes sense. You unlock movesets from beating eikons and obviously the story progresses as you defeats eikons. So in order to get plenty of use out of the later ones the side questss also increase towards the end. The issue being a lot of them are kind of boring, and not worth doing - but also you need to do them imo.

Still worth a play through imo and I actually preferred it to FF7 where the combat in the first one just didn't really work for me at all.

@-taco If it helps every single game in the series is its own game and they are not linked in any way at all. Some games do have sequels but they are all marked under the same title like FFX and FFX-2, so just pick one and play away.

The main problem is that everyone has their own opinion on which games are best so its impossible to get a deifinitve list of best to worse. FF12 for example is very highly rated by some and I would rate it as one of the worst, Likewise FF15 is dislike by many but I really enjoyed the Brotrip

I have to say I'm really intrigued by it. I think the only thing putting me off is how dark it looks. It looks very dark - which is fine if it's only dark in places - but it's dark all the way through, the flashing against the darkened backdrop for 40-50 hours might not do me any good.

That said, following the success of Expedition 33, and knowing that SE took notes, I'd love to see them go down a similar route with their next mainline outing (if not the one after).

The game is darker than most entries but I personally wouldn't say its to dark. Its just more grounded as a medievil story of warring states in a dying world.

I would say its kind of the polar opposite of the FF15 story where his kingdom is destroyed, the world is at war and yet no one seems stressed and we still have time for cooking quest at the campsite, and every other frivolity imaginable.

Medieval is a theme I really enjoy, so that's a tick in a box for me. I think the last medieval game I played in the series was FF9 (wasn't that rumoured to get a remaster?).

Yeah the words for summons drives me mad how they keep changing them. Summons, aeons or whatever they were in FFX, just pick one and stick to it lol.

@Kaloudz 100%. I loved my time with FF15 and rated it very highly but the story is so jarring, especially if you watched Kingsglaive before it which massively highlights the utter destruction of the kingdom... oh well STAG WEEKEND TIME!

Yeah I am not sure what the plan is for FF9. The rumour was it would be remastered but retain its classic turn based style. I played it recently however and I am not sure how well it would hold up with such a limited remaster.

The game is very linear and the open world map is a clever trick as they just hid the linear paths as linear paths on a map. It certainly lacks the quality of hidden extras that the FF7 / 8 world maps held.

I enjoyed the setting, and it was good, but I think rose tinted glasses really help me remember it as being better than it was.

@Ilyn Oh hell I loved FF15 too, but going back to that adamantoise for a moment, that was such a damage sponge and literally all you had to do was avoid it's slow moving head. Took me nearly an hour to beat it but I was never in any danger. A far cry from, say, Ruby and Emerald as far as end game bosses go.

Yeah I'm stuck with FF9 too. I love the plot and I love the theme, but I can't see it being as well received as FF8 (which if I recall was a ground up remaster, no? Something to do with the original code getting wiped? - or am I mixing that up with Silent Hill?).

Oh yeah I watched Kingsglaive (and even played the FF15 prequel game that is still to this day free on Xbox) and agree, the stakes felt off given their "Stand by Me" road trip mentality. Did you ever play FF15 Pocket Edition? Is that just FF15 cute?

@Kaloudz Adamantoise in 15 was such a troll by SE, yes it was kinda realistic seeing as you a trying to damage a walking mountain, but my god it was long.

I have not played the pocket edition, I also never got around to trying the Comrades mode either. Its on my list as a game I do want to replay with all the DLC as the world was very enjoyable and looked great.

@Ilyn Lol, glad I'm not the only one that didn't like that encounter. No I haven't played Pocket Edition either but if it is step-by-step a copy of FF15 (just cuter) I'd be keen to pick it up. I don't want to pick it up and find that it's just pieces of the game.

I liked Final Fantasy 16 - even if it plays more like a Platinum Games title than a Final Fantasy title.

Story is pretty good - dark, though still pretty typical Final Fantasy fare.

I felt like the language in the game was a little unnecessary and was added just to give it an M-rating (I don’t care about foul language - I have the mouth of a sailor…because I was one lol - it just felt…out of place).

Final Fantasy VII Remake is awesome. Has a more Kingdom Hearts feel to it and the combat has more depth than you may realize. Highly recommend that one (when it comes out) if you haven’t had the ability to play it elsewhere.

@GamingFan4Lyf See i was not a fan of the combat in Remake as I really disliked how the agro always tended to focus on the character you controlled at any given moment. It did however feel much better in Interlude as Yuffie has way more in her toolkit than any of the base characters.

For me the best FF action combat has been Stranger of Paradise and I would love to see a mainline title or remake fully embrace that style of combat. All the characters felt fun and maxing out multiple job trees to unlock advanced classes was pretty fun.
