Re: Review: SCUF Valor Pro Wireless - My New Favourite Xbox Series X|S Controller

GeeEssEff

@Jenkinss Yeh I have had 2.5 and a bit years of use out of mine and love it but won’t be getting another as the trust is gone. I took the plunge and ordered one of these SCUF Valor controllers as a little Christmas treat to myself. They are difficult to get in the UK so will basically be Christmas by the time it arrives from your neck of the woods!

Re: Xbox Asks 1,500 Players To Sum Up Whether Gaming Is 'Time Well Spent' In New Survey

GeeEssEff

I have met many people over the years who have judged gamers and considered it a waste of time….Many of them religiously tune in to shows like love island, Made in Chelsea or I’m a celebrity and unironically see this as a higher form of entertainment.

There’s plenty more productive ways I could spend my free time but gaming is my favourite way to switch off, relax and unwind so I don’t see it as time wasted. I do sometimes feel a bit guilty about not doing stuff like learning a new skill instead though.

Re: Review: Black Ops 7 (Xbox) - Zombies Mode The Shining Light In This Undercooked Call Of Duty

GeeEssEff

@Kezelpaso Yeh it doesn’t seem to have the universal appeal BO6 did. It’s weird for me as I tend to do really well on release and get worse as other players get more used to the guns and maps. My innate COD abilities are thoroughly failing me this year though and I’ve definitely seen my rage quit ratio increase as my E/D ratio drops 🙄

That hybrid perk speciality thing is a great addition over last year though to address the previous need to use perks you don’t like just for the bonus. Like you say there’s a good base and some smart tweaks but it’s just not going to keep me playing I don’t think.

Re: Review: Black Ops 7 (Xbox) - Zombies Mode The Shining Light In This Undercooked Call Of Duty

GeeEssEff

@Kezelpaso I always appreciate your observations on COD. I’ve played every single mainline entry to at least prestige 1 and am getting ruined on this way more than usual. While aging reactions and a waning enthusiasm in general are no doubt playing a part I can’t help but feel that the gun balancing is a bit off. I usually love a sub machine gun but every single one I have tried (up to dravec as I’m lvl 32) feels like a pea shooter and even in close quarters I get melted by ARs. You had any of this?

Re: Poll: What Are Your First Impressions Of Black Ops 7 On Xbox Game Pass?

GeeEssEff

I’m wondering if I don’t like this Cod or I’m over the franchise altogether but I just can’t get onboard with MP this year. Maybe I relied on SBMM more than I thought I did and have been shielded from the teenage sweats but I am getting absolutely rinsed here. I appreciate I can’t call a game bad because of my own skill issues but there have been countless times where I have shot first and riddled someone with bullets for them to 2 shot kill me in response. I will try hardcore before my GPU runs out to see if I enjoy that more but this will likely go down as my least played Cod in the series.

Re: Black Ops 7 Campaign Review (Xbox): Black Ops Pedigree Can't Save This Mess Of A COD Campaign

GeeEssEff

I moved to New Zealand yesterday as my GPU runs out in a matter of days so wanted to see if it’s worth buying on PC….its not. This is definitely a phone-it-in year which is a shame because Black Ops is my favourite series in the franchise but this game is just half baked. Half my multiplayer matches took place on 10 year old maps which haven’t even been reskinned but after playing some of the new maps I can see why people are voting for legacy ones…they are awful.

There was talk a few years ago of them stopping the yearly release schedule which I think they desperately need to do. It seems we get a quality COD every 2-3 years and everything in between is just a quick cash grab. This is not the Battlefield 6 challenger COD fans were hoping for.

Re: ARC Raiders Hits Incredible Player & Sales Numbers Across All Platforms, Including Xbox

GeeEssEff

Well deserved. I am new to extraction shooters but obsessed with Arc Raiders. The community is incredible and I have had some hilariously memorable moments with complete strangers. The gameplay loop is super addictive as well:
I fail to extract - I want to go back in to redeem myself.
I successfully extract - I go back in for more of that sweet sweet dopamine!!

10/10 experience….when I’m not playing it I’m thinking about it and I’ve not had that with a game in a good long time.

Re: 'Satisfactory' Brings Its Ultra-Popular Open World Co-Op Game To Xbox This Week

GeeEssEff

@Fiendish-Beaver Yep exactly that. Basically the golden goose of multiplayer gaming for this type of game. I have put hours and hours into Minecraft with my cousin on Xbox back in the day and we always wished for a persistent shared world that we could hop in and out of without one of us needing to be in the game but ended up just having two worlds we would take turns in. We recently both got into Satisfactory on PC so I tried to set one up for free but it is a bit beyond my technical abilities. There are loads of third party server providers you can subscribe to but they can get costly and the moment you stop paying you lose your game. Pingplayers.com is a good example.

Re: Poll: What Are Your Initial Impressions Of The Outer Worlds 2 On Xbox Game Pass?

GeeEssEff

@REALAIS ahhh right see I went to a couple of vending machines early on which sold just ammo, grenades and ammo recipes so assumed they would all be the same so haven’t looked into any more. I will check out the mod vending machines next time I play now I know that’s a thing so thanks. Consider my weapon mod gripe retracted (although i still maintain I should have found more dotted around in the wild)

I assure you though I’m not rushing…If I was just mainlining the story I would be way past the 2nd planet at 20 hours in. I have explored about 95% of first planet if for nothing else but to find those comics and I still have one missing.

Re: Poll: What Are Your Initial Impressions Of The Outer Worlds 2 On Xbox Game Pass?

GeeEssEff

@RiverGenie Yep but I feel the resource cost of crafting ammo to be quite high for what it is and I have swapped out Niles so I’m at the mercy of finding crafting benches which seem numerous in some areas and sparse in others. Either way for a game with gunplay as one of its core combat mechanics, I don’t particularly want to be stopping and crafting ammo after every couple of encounters. I will google that flaw though and see if I have missed it or can still get it so appreciate the tip!

@REALAIS my view of an RPG with builds and choices is that the game should adapt to my playstyle, not the other way round. I don’t want to be crafting various types of ammo every five minutes when I could just be picking up more of it off the bodies of the gun toting enemies I have just killed. I have had to adapt by putting skill points in melee and using that more but I am never a big fan of melee in these types of games. Also I’m well past Eden and a large portion through the story on Dorado and still not finding weapon mods. I noticed some at that black market planet but IRC they were super expensive and mostly for Assault Rifles which, at that point I hadn’t found any of.

It could be that I have just completely missed a load of early stuff and other people are having a different experience to me but I can only report on what I have found so far. Good game though, my gripes are minor in the grand scheme of things.

Re: Poll: What Are Your Initial Impressions Of The Outer Worlds 2 On Xbox Game Pass?

GeeEssEff

I would give it an 8/10 I think right now. The graphics are great, the missions are interesting and varied, I love the humour, the skills and perks are cool, the companions are interesting and I like the different ways to approach scenarios based on the skills/Perks you have.

My main gripes are that Ammo is scarce as hell. I am swapping my guns out regularly, not because I want to but because I am forced to select the guns I have ammo for. At nearly 20 hours I have found a tonne of armour mods but only 2 weapon mods which is annoying because I am pretty much using the same armour from the beginning of the game while changing weapons constantly. Performance has been iffy at times on both Series X and PC but tbf its been nowhere near as bad as some recent games. And finally, while I understand the reasons for not allowing a respec, I would have liked the option. I am second guessing all my skill and perk choices knowing how final they are, especially with the level 30 cap. I made some early errors in my allocation which are going to hamper me for the rest of my playthrough.

Re: Huge Xbox Report Details 'Ambitious' Next-Gen Console With Free Online Play

GeeEssEff

@Fiendish-Beaver I reckon PC gamepass price increases are pretty much a given if they drop the requirement to pay for online play. If the Nextbox does everything people are expecting it to, then Xbox will miss out on several revenue streams that they have relied on in a closed console ecosystem. I can see a small price increase next year and a more significant one 6-12 months after it releases. The company who are probably most excited by all this is Valve….this will just be like printing money for them.

Re: Microsoft Passes The Buck To Asus For ROG Xbox Ally's Price Tag

GeeEssEff

@BAMozzy watch the video in this article and tell me it’s not misleading. https://www.purexbox.com/news/2025/10/sarah-bond-shows-off-where-microsoft-is-prototyping-for-the-next-generation-of-xbox

Some direct quotes:
“In addition to playing Xbox console games on it you can play any pc or streamable game” - Host
“You can actually have your full high fidelity gaming library and have it in your hands” - Sarah Bond
“Because if your console gaming at home and have to go…it actually knows where you were in the game, you can jump back in right where you left off. It syncs progress” - Sarah Bond
“Because it’s windows you can get ALL of your library…it brings together an aggregated library and that’s just something that’s not available anywhere else” - Leadbetter (another massive lie on the end there because it’s been available on every Windows handheld for 2+ years)

Literally no mention of Play Anywhere or the difference between console and PC in the entire 3 minute video. When Xbox stop saying you can play ALL your games on this device I will stop complaining about their lacklustre marketing efforts. Semantics over whether a game is Xbox published or whether I have bought a third party game on my Xbox are irrelevant when Microsoft are literally telling me I can buy an Ally and play all these games. I’m not being selfish or blinkered and haven’t once said all third parties should all be play anywhere…I’m saying MS should not be marketing this as an Xbox that plays your Xbox games because it doesn’t. Reviewers and thousands of gamers are saying the exact same thing I am so at what point do you accept your the one in the bubble?

Re: Microsoft Passes The Buck To Asus For ROG Xbox Ally's Price Tag

GeeEssEff

@BAMozzy Ok dude your getting angry, defensive and hostile so maybe tone it down and remember you’re not Phil Spencer and I am criticising Microsoft Marketing not you.

I am not comfortably ignorant, I own a PC, have subbed on and off to GPU since it started and have owned every mainstream Xbox. I know exactly what this is and what it can do. I am talking from the point of view of a consumer who buys this on the back of being an Xbox customer and thinking, based on several marketing campaigns, that this is going to play their Xbox games. Calling people ignorant isn’t going to change the fact that if I bought Borderlands 4, Assassins Creed Shadows, KCD2 etc on my series X then I would need to rebuy them on an Xbox Rog Ally. That is not a nice, universal ecosystem, it is 2 separate ecosystems which are named the same thing with a tiny bit of cross over. To the terminally online gamer this is fine, we know what we are buying and what it’s giving us. To your casual console gamer who I can only assume is at least part of the target audience for this it is confusing.

Re: Microsoft Passes The Buck To Asus For ROG Xbox Ally's Price Tag

GeeEssEff

@BAMozzy it’s a bit unfair to call it blinkered from console gamers. People like us who follow gaming news sites or the industry in general are a tiny minority. Most people just buy their console of choice, a few games they are interested in and get on with their lives. If you don’t have a PC, have no interest in getting a PC and have been a console only Xbox gamer for 25 years why would you know or care about Play Anywhere or Xbox PC?

As much as it’s not the direction they are headed, the term Xbox is synonymous with consoles. Despite Microsoft’s “everything is an Xbox” campaign last year that hasn’t changed and it’s going to be a long time before it does change. So yeh if a device has the Xbox logo on it and Xbox are telling me it can play all my games I would be pretty disgruntled if I unboxed it to find it doesn’t play a massive portion of my library natively (including some first party games like Halo 5 and Doom 2016).

It looks like a great device BUT I can completely agree with any criticism levelled at it for calling itself an Xbox when it quite clearly isn’t one.

Re: Microsoft Passes The Buck To Asus For ROG Xbox Ally's Price Tag

GeeEssEff

@BAMozzy “ The issue is that some still can't separate 'Xbox' from the 'Console' despite it being the Brand of Microsofts ENTIRE gaming division on PC, Cloud and of course Console”

Xbox has been a console for the best part of 25 years and a PC app for 6. Of course people are struggling to comprehend a device called Xbox which doesn’t play 90% of your Xbox console game library. Especially when MS marketing is muddying the waters with vague, if not outright false statements about what it can do.

Re: Roundup: Here's What The Reviews Are Saying About Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2

GeeEssEff

@Gabrie You can make video game reviews disappear by just not reading them. For lots of people they are an excellent guide for where to invest their limited time and money. Yes they are subjective but if most reviewers are saying a game is good it’s likely to be good (Elden Ring) and if most reviewers are saying it’s bad it’s likely to be bad (Gollum). You are completely free to ignore reviews but your subjective opinion that they should disappear would not be great for those who use them to decide which games out of thousands of options would be a good choice for them.

Re: Double Fine's Keeper Is Available Today With Xbox Game Pass (October 17)

GeeEssEff

I’ve got to admit I haven’t been majorly interested in Keeper but the fact that Double Fine have come out and said they have purposely kept quiet so as not to spoil any surprises does have me intrigued. I was kind of worried it hadn’t received much marketing or buzz due to a lack of confidence but it seems like they want players to go in as blind as possible and experience it for themselves which I respect the hell out of. It’s getting downloaded!
