Talking Point: Will The Next Xbox Console Be Revealed In 2026?

For some time now, we've speculated that the next Xbox console could be revealed in 2026, especially considering it's the 25th anniversary of Xbox on November 15th, 2026 — surely a perfect date to reveal the next system, right?

Well, that might have been the case this time last year, but with recent reports suggesting RAM price increases could delay the next generation of consoles, it's starting to feel less likely that we'll be getting the next Xbox console in 2027 as previously rumoured. Sony even seems to think the PS6 could be multiple years away yet.

As recently as December, it was suggested that Xbox's next system could be delayed beyond 2027-28:

The situation seems up in the air right now, and if Microsoft was planning to unveil a new Xbox console in November, there are still many months to see how everything shakes out regarding these RAM shortages.

It's also worth considering that a lot of people simply don't seem that interested in upgrading right now. Looking at that Push Square article from yesterday, the comments are full of people stating that Sony should just take their time with the PS6 and wait a few years, suggesting the PS5 still has plenty of untapped potential.

You could argue it's a different case for Xbox though — sales of the Series X and S are poor these days, and rumours of Windows PC integration with the next console means we could be looking at a very different system to whatever the PS6 ends up becoming. Microsoft would surely love a headstart over the next PlayStation as well.
