The Nioh series is one that so far has stuck to PlayStation as its sole console platform of choice, but looking at the game's latest trailer, that may be about to change with the third game.
In recent days, Sony and developer Team Ninja have released a new features trailer for Nioh 3; which launches for PlayStation on February 6th, 2026. Tucked at the end of the trailer is a splash screen that confirms the upcoming sequel only has a six-month exclusivity window on PS5, opening the door for a pretty close Xbox release.

Of course, this being a PlayStation trailer, it doesn't directly mention an Xbox release — but given that the PC version is arriving day and date with PS5, any sort of six month wait would apply to other console versions rather than PC. We should hear about other platforms sometime around August 2026, then.
We now have Switch 2 out in the wild as well of course, which should be able to handle the Team Ninja title given its additional horsepower compared to the first Switch. Here's hoping both Xbox and Nintendo fans can get a taste of the Nioh series when Nioh 3's exclusivity window expires this August.
What do you make of the Nioh series potentially coming to Xbox in six months' time? Talk to us about it down below.

I own both the first two games, but have not played them as yet. I was planning on picking up the third game at some point, to add to my collection if nothing else... 😂
It's good that the game is coming here, but surely having the first two is pretty essential story wise as I assume they follow on from one another...
@Fiendish-Beaver They have a link, but its honestly not critical to enjoying the games at all. They did release a PS5 collection for the originals so I imagine they could port them easily enough if they wanted to.
The question would obviously be is it worth it as the original games have been available for a while (2017/2020) and are on PC, which could limit sales a bit for the older titles if people played them elsewhere.
Played the demo not for me.
I prefer Assassin creed shadows over this and over Ghost of Yotei.
Different folks different strokes.
Would be pointless, it's not an attractive enough IP to make a sales dent on xbox 6 months (minimum) after the fact. We got wo long and ninja gaiden stuff anyway.
They can keep it. Sick of developers not wanting to release on xbox. Stick it where the sun doesn't shine!
In a recent Gamescom 2022 interview with VGC, Team Ninja told the outlet that PlayStation exclusive Nioh isn't coming to Xbox platforms anytime soon, if ever.
Honestly the only thing on Playstation that I'm interested in. This and Rise of the Ronin, because I love Team Ninja.
@Fiendish-Beaver I wonder if it will be similar to Stalker & Monster Hunter Stories. Sequels are announced for Xbox first. Then in time the prequels drop before the later launches.
Not interested in this series, but it's yet another franchise that will no longer be exclusive to PlayStation, among many others. All third-party publishers are releasing their games on multiple platforms now — the era of exclusives is over.
@Fiendish-Beaver The first game had you play as a real-life British samurai guy named William Adams, while the sequel took a create-your-own-character approach instead. They were barely related story-wise, and I imagine this third game won't be dependent on the first two games either.
That said, if Nioh 3 does come to Xbox, I think it's likely that they'll announce Xbox ports of Nioh 1 and 2 during like Tokyo Game Show or something
I 100% Wo Long and its dlcs. I have also finished all Ninja Gaiden games. I am a fan of Team Ninja and their games. But i am curious how this will work? Will they release Nioh 3 also for Xbox without the previous games? Or will they do also a port for the first two games? Anyways, it will be a welcome addition, but i think it's a special game because of their difficulty. They are very hard games to be appealing to a mass audience.
It isn't guaranteed to be 6-month though. Ff16 has the same 6-month exclusivity window but it only released on Xbox 2 years later, FF7 remake has 1-year exclusivity window but only released 6 years later on Xbox. Forspoken has 2-year exclusivity but never coming to Xbox
@fatpunkslim The IP has been multiplatform since 2017 when it released on PC, the same year the original game released on console.
Thank you, @Questionable_Duck. I do own the first 2 (I think) having bought them in a sale a long time back, but I have not got round to playing them as yet. I will do one day (probably!)... 😂
I'm gonna be totally honest: all of these games are starting to look the same to me.
I don't know if it's the setting, the combat, or whatever... it's all a blur.
I think it a bit early to claim that ALL third-party games will be multiplatform, @fatpunkslim. Most, yes. Most by a long way. However Sony still has a number of third-party games that are coming as at least timed exclusives, which of course is not the case on Xbox, or rather, when Xbox does have a third-party exclusives, it is for an exceptionally small game. Regardless, Sony will continue to bolster their own exclusive games with AA and AAA third-party exclusives.
As much as I'd like to see the practice end, now that Xbox no longer engages in the practice, I don't think Sony will stop doing it anytime soon, because exclusives do draw people into an ecosystem probably more than anything else. Exclusives are the only reason that I ever buy a PlayStation. If they did not have exclusives, I'd have an Xbox and only an Xbox...
@rhyno_888 Exactly they always list any exclusivity deals on the advert and when it is currently set to end. None of this stops the deal being extended or means its a 100% port once the deal ends.
That would be nice.
@Fiendish-Beaver If you are a fan of souls like games then you need to play them as they are probably the second best series out there. The combat is miles ahead of anything Fromsoft and is also easily the best combat from KT have in any of their games. What I like is that each game also adds enough to refresh the system.
Not sure if you played Wo Long but that was a good game and Nioh is much much better. Its just so good.
@Fiendish-Beaver lool, Everything I say, you feel the irresistible need to contradict me. You claim that “Sony will continue to bolster their own exclusive games with AA and AAA third-party exclusives.” But that’s not up to Sony — that’s the problem. Just look at Square Enix, Capcom, Koei Tecmo, Konami, and others: all the major studios no longer want to make PlayStation exclusives, for obvious reasons — production costs and the simple fact that it’s not worth it anymore, given the low sales on PlayStation. All the Resident Evils, Final Fantasies, and many more are multiplatform now. There’s no need to defend your beloved PlayStation — this is just the raw reality. Everyone has noticed, except you, that Sony has fewer and fewer exclusives, whether first-party or third-party. No need to invent a parallel reality.
So no, even if PlayStation wanted to, Sony is not going to keep pushing for AA and AAA third-party exclusives like before, and inevitably much less than before.
Third-party publishers are increasingly reluctant, and it’s getting more and more expensive for Sony. Case in point: 6-month exclusivity deals. It’s ridiculous that Sony is still wasting money for just 6 months of exclusivity.
It’s just the reality of the video game industry, bro.
This may come to Switch 2. I don’t know about Xbox though but it could happen
@Fiendish-Beaver yes indeed. Exclusives do matter in such a way and Sony still does the 3rd party timed exclusives. The era of timed 3rd party exclusives hasn’t ended because Sony and to an extent, Nintendo both engage in this. Nintendo still has their 1st party exclusives line up which is why people buy those consoles. Same with PlayStation consoles (but they put games on PC a few years later but it still works and Sony keeps their PS player base growing despite this)
@fatpunkslim
“Everyone has noticed, except you Sony has fewer and fewer exclusives, whether first party or 3rd party”
That is indeed true but tell me how many exclusives does Xbox have? 1st and 3rd party?
@fatpunkslim you're right that some of the biggest Devs like square have said they won't be doing exclusives, but it was literally last Tuesday that this very website had an article talking about games that been cancelled for Xbox.
So playstation might not be getting big hitters like ff anymore but they are getting exclusives now without spending a penny because of their install base. Some of the playstation exclusives are also coming from their own initiatives like china hero project (phantom blade zero) which I personally am fully behind. Would love to see Xbox do something similar.
So it's very much a case of yes and no dependant on the semantics chosen.

@Llamageddon which article was that btw?
@anoyonmus Tuesday 27/01/26 talking about 1348 ex voto and Nickelodeon splat pack.

Played the demo. Got stuck for a while on the first boss. It eas so hard to tell when I got damaged. There's barely any feedback on getting hit. So I payed attention to the boss and suddenly im dead because the attack I thought I had blocked wasnt actually blocked. It just feels off for me. Then again I didn't like the first 2 games so yeah. Controls themselves feel good atleast and the design of the world is fantastic

I only ever say something is a fact, if it is a fact, @fatpunkslim, and where it is supposition, I tend to preface it with the words, 'I think', because that way I am not stating that it is a fact, but what I believe will happen or has happened. Like I would say, "I think Xbox will cease to exist 3 years after the release of the PCBox." That is me saying what I think will happen at a point in the future. It isn't a fact, partly because that time has not yet come to pass, but also because it is simply my thought process.
However, if I were to say, "the PCBox has been cancelled.", then that is me portraying that statement as a fact, when in reality we don't know that to be the case, indeed, as far as we know, the PCBox is still coming, so it is far from a fact.
I think the issue here is that I am use to working in facts, my old mucker. I dealt in absolutes. You were either guilty of the offence, or you were not (or more likely I could not prove you were guilty, but that is a whole other matter!).
Look at it another way, if your employer said to you they were going to pay you ALL of your wages, then you would expect to receive it all. However, if you only received some of it, and they then turned around and said, "actually we only meant some, not all", you would remind them that they said ALL not SOME. That is what I am getting at regarding your initial comment...

@Fiendish-Beaver That ignore button has got to be looking pretty tempting by now.

You are definitely very close, @oopsiezz... 😂
While the biggest franchises did bother with ports (Final Fantasy and Death Stranding) I worry that these slightly more niche ones won’t, even after the exclusivity period expires. Where are Stellar Blade and AI Limit for example? Still not bothering with Xbox. I really don’t like this annoying inconsistency with third party ports and with sales of Xboxes flatlining this situation is very unlikely to get better anytime soon. We’ll see what happens, but I won’t be surprised if six months pass and there’s still complete radio silence — hopefully I’m wrong on this prediction.
WOW, 3rd time to see 6 months in SONY trailer.
Hopefully a Summer showcase or TGS announcement for this and the first 2 games, play anywhere added as well I expect
Nioh 4 will probably release on PS and Xbox at the same time.
