Roundup: The First Reviews Are In For Final Fantasy 7 Remake On Xbox Series X|S

Today marks the long-awaited arrival of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and therefore we've started to see a few reviews going live at various outlets over the past 24 hours.

Here at Pure Xbox, I recently shared my thoughts on playing FF7 Remake's free demo as someone who'd never experienced Final Fantasy 7 in any form before, and you can check that out via the related story below:

But what about the actual reviews? Well, it's unsurprising that many outlets are praising the new Xbox version of FF7 Remake, with Windows Central even going as far as calling it "officially the best version" of the game so far.

Let's take a look at some reviews below, which are mostly focused around the Series X version rather than Series S.

Windows Central (Very Positive)

"Final Fantasy has had a chequered history with Xbox, but those times are firmly behind it. Is it too little too late? It's possible. I purchased a PS4 Pro just for Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and played through the game again when it hit PC. I suspect the vast majority who want to play Final Fantasy 7 Remake already did so on other platforms. But if, like me, you love the game enough to run through it a third time — I would argue that Final Fantasy 7 Remake on Xbox Play Anywhere is quite easily the best version."

GamersRD (93/100)

(translated) "Technically, it implements improvements in texture loading, performance stability, near-instantaneous loading times, and a more refined lighting system make this adaptation feel fully current. Although in essence it is still the same original remake from 2020, those who could not enjoy the game since 2020 due to the barrier of exclusivity, now is a good time."

Eurogamer (Positive)

"The Xbox Series X version is fairly materially indistinguishable from the PS5 version, except for the fact that Xbox lacks the haptic controller feedback features of PS5 on a platform level, and the load times are slightly longer - something which is quite often the case with PS5 ports to the platform. Xbox has a couple of strings to its bow to offset this, however - you've got Quick Resume which eliminates the much longer initial load-in, and the fact that this version of the game is Play Anywhere means you can cross-platform flick between Xbox and PC or devices like the ROG Ally, which is handy indeed."

GamesCH (88/100)

(translated) "Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade" is still a more than successful remake of one of the classics of video game history. Whether you like the new story or not is a matter of taste, but there is little to complain about the overall package. However, the additional options introduced with the Streamlined Progression are a real joy, and hopefully the launch of this trilogy on the two new platforms will reach even more players who haven't enjoyed the title before."

XboxEra (7.5/10)

"As it is right now, Xbox is the only platform where you can play every single mainline Final Fantasy game, barring, of course, the sequel to this one: Rebirth. But that’ll come in due time, so the point still stands. What is that point, you ask? Pretty simple, really. Xbox is the premier place to play Final Fantasy on consoles, and Final Fantasy VII Remake is a JRPG worth purchasing for fans and non-fans of the genre alike."

Xboxygen (Mixed)

(translated) "Final Fantasy VII Remake remains a deeply ambitious work, torn between homage and reinvention. It shines with its combat system, its art direction and its deepening of the characters, but stumbles over its rhythm, its narrative filler and technical choices that now show their age. In this Xbox Series X version, the game is neither failed nor outdated, but clearly out of step with 2026 standards. If you've already finished the game on Playstation or PC, there's no real reason to jump back into the adventure on Xbox. However, for those who discover this Remake, FF7 is still a must-see, even in 2026."

If you fancy checking it out for yourself, we highly recommend trying the free Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade demo on the Xbox Store — it gives you around an hour's worth of gameplay, and progress carries to the full version.

We've also already covered how FF7 Remake looks on both Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, with both consoles appearing to handle the game very well. I've personally tested it on the ROG Xbox Ally X and found it to be a great fit for that device, and don't forget that it's also Xbox Play Anywhere-supported and playable via Cloud Gaming if you own it!
