Nobody saves the world, plagues tale 2, redfall, starfield, atomic hearts and Somerville for me at the moment. Hopefully hellblade 2 and an obsidian rpg (any) too as well as some unexpected indie hits as usual with game pass.
@Chaudy I was going to say the same thing with nobody saves the world. The demo was awesome, but that shouldn’t be surprising coming from the Guacamelee guys
For me across all platforms (10 to 1); Rift Apart New Pokémon Snap Eastward Resident Evil Village Deaths Door Halo Infinite Psychonauts 2 Metroid Dread Skyward Sword HD Little Nightmares 2
Psychonauts 2 for me, but if halos campaign was as good as its multiplayer it would have been my no.1 of the year across all platforms. Overall I think Xbox games are really starting to get better and better, each year there seems to be a big improvement and next year looks to hopefully continue this trajectory for them.
From no.1 to 5 for me; Little nightmares 2 Halo Infinite Psychonauts 2 Deaths door Resident evil village If I include other platforms; Little nightmares 2 Halo Infinite Metroid Dread Skyward sword hd Psychonauts 2
Halo campaign. It hasn’t grabbed me like the multiplayer yet but it’s still early days, just got to the open world part. My play through of pillars of eternity continues at a rapid pace. Glad I finally clicked with this game, my current play through is approaching 25 hours so I’m truly on board to seeing this one through finally. And I’m continuing to chip away at eastward. Very slow paced game that feels well suited to pick up and play for an hour or two here or there. Great music and visuals and I really am growing attached to John and Sam. No rush to finish this one.
I didn’t go in expecting it to be amazing, came out feeling it wasn’t too bad (I didn’t watch it live, just looked at the trailers afterwards). Hellblade, plaques take, suicide squad, Elden ring, not to bad. C grade
Pillars of eternity, I finally got into it after many attempts over the years (granted I’m on story mode but still). Halo is still fun, and I’ve started eastward which is slow but fun game so far.
Halo, forza (both I imagine will fill many of my weekends going forward), mortal shell (a unexpected game pass surprise, seriously helping with the Elden ring wait) and pillars of eternity (my fourth attempt getting into this game)
I bought dragons dogma, been meaning to give it a go for a while and finally for £5 I will. Also bought Pikmin 3 for switch but I’m probably not going to be playing these games for a bit, too busy with Forza, halo and surprisingly mortal shell on game pass.
Personally I like the different feel between trophies and achievements. Trophies feel more like a cabinet where you can display your greatest feats, whereas my favourite part of achievements would be the monthly leaderboards, a bit of friendly competition like that is can be very fun especially with game pass.
As long as they’re fun to play I personally don’t care too much about unlocks or progression in pick up and play online games like this or rocket league or splatoon etc. I can understand why people would feel this way though, but at the same time having it be free is great at getting everyone I know to play it. Great fun with it so far.
Sure there are some missing games I would have liked but they’ve done very good with their bc. Got most of my all time favourites (most with some sort of enhancements) so I won’t complain
Fallout 3, New Vegas, Dragon Age Origins, Dead Space 2 (not 1?), Gears of War 1, these are some of my all time favourites so that’s awesome. Also might check out this version of Nier instead of the remake as I’m cheap. Hopefully these aren’t just series x updates and include series s though, otherwise never mind I guess.
The first xbox console I owned was the One x Scorpio edition. I was a bit hesitant buying it, but I had a 4K tv and wanted something that played 4K. The PS4 pro was an option but it didn’t do 4K movies, my brother was also on Xbox one so I took a gamble on it. It became one of my favourite consoles I’ve owned. I was also hesitant with the series s. It didn’t deliver the same image quality as the one x but had faster load times but that too was worth it in the end, looking forward to what playground games and obsidian are going to do with it.
More simple but fun multiplayer games would be awesome (like rocket league). With most online games now it feels almost complicated to know what you ‘should’ be doing especially if you play the game after launch.
Got a series s around April. I was a bit hesitant about it, I had a one x but I really wanted the faster load times. I was worried I’d regret it though. I didn’t thankfully, the series s is a blast and great value for money. Game pass is obviously the main seller content wise, Pyschonauts 1 + 2, forza horizon 5, Gears Tactics being my favourites but also getting the chance to just mess around with other games I wouldn’t usually buy like mlb, outriders, the accent, Back 4 blood etc. And being able to mess around with those games with people I know who are on Xbox one makes it better, we don’t all need to buy these games or be on the same console to have a go at them which I really cool. The only real downside are some of the upgrades of the one x didn’t carry over (sekiro being the biggest one for me, also Morriwind which I had just started on one x).
Fable and starfield as fall games next year would be quite a big deal (provided they live up to their promise), perhaps even comparable to Xbox’s fall this year with Forza and halo. But I don’t mind if both those games are further away than that, next years already packed.
Elden Ring, Splatoon 3 and Legends Acreus are the big ones for me. Ragnorok, Nobody saves the world, Silksong, Suicide Squad, Starfield, BOTW 2, Outer Worlds 2/Avowed (if they’re 2022), Sifu…. I’m going to be broke….
That’s great to hear. My brother is stuck on the og Xbox one and that’s caused a bit of a problem for us playing co op games together due to technical problems. I’m going to assume halo will run well too but after that I think it’ll become a real (first world) problem.
Best game pass batch in a while. I knew holding off on It takes two would pay off! Forza is obviously the big one. Unpacking looks very interesting, David jaffe did a video on it a long time ago and he brought up a good point about how well it told its story through interactivity, been waiting for a console release ever since.
I’m probably in the minority with this but I think 60 FPS is a bit overrated. Most of the time when I select a 60 FPS modes I’m clueless as to whether or not it’s on. Some games you can feel it more but even then 30 seems more than fine (60 is definitely better, but hardly a necessity especially if it comes at major costs)
I’m cautiously optimistic about both (especially suicide squad). Looking forward but also in no rush to see gameplay, in fact I’d rather they wait until the game is nearly complete and show that rather than a vertical slice.
That seems like a lot, but I suppose you never know. I’d be surprised if they don’t pull the trigger on a new banjo game (or remake) considering the spotlight smash bros gave him.
If my backlog didn’t suddenly (or at least feel suddenly) ballon I may have given this a shot, a short but good platformer with great visuals, sounds right up my street
Forza horizon 5 for me. That series hasn’t missed yet and it doesn’t look like it will with this one. Halo I think I’ll be waiting until the split screen update (if I’m going to play another 343 campaign, it won’t be alone). Unless I’m forgetting about something theres not much else on Xbox I’m looking forward to this year. Metroid dread, eastward, and monster crown are the other platform games I’ll probably be getting.
Awesome. I’m looking forward to trying it out once I’ve finished one or two of the games I have on the go (final boss of sekiro so hopefully very soon)
Sekiro for series s would be great, currently playing through it and I’m missing the one x upgrade, a FPS boost would more than make up for it though. Hot pursuit remastered would be another I’d love.
Forza horizon 5 was my game of the show (metroid dread would be a tied first but that’s not Xbox). Replaced visually looks awesome and I’m interested but without knowing too much about the game itself it’s hard to get too excited. Deaths door, atomic hearts and back 4 blood were runners up for me.
Just got a series s, wanted a series x but gave in. It’s a better upgrade than I thought over my one x, load times and frame rates are much better. Looking forward to hopefully starfield and horizon 5 soon as I think new high performing games are the only thing it’s lacking in (resident evil village is a very good start though)

Psychonauts 2 for me, but if halos campaign was as good as its multiplayer it would have been my no.1 of the year across all platforms.
