@uptownsoul You're absolutely right. But concentration cannot be stopped now. The gaming industry is highly profitable, but also require massive investments. Buyouts will also happen from the outside, with GAFAs waiting for the right opportunity.
And giant publishers are more fragile than people realize. Another THQ-sized collapse can and probably will happen in the decade.
@Bleachedsmiles This is the very point why the gamepass business model is actually working. The profit is into DLC and MTX. Day one games will never be integrated with additional content.
@GamingFan4Lyf Well what else can they do actually ? The PR battle was lost last year with that gameplay reveal. The game changed status from "system seller" to simply "a new entry" and this kind of details won't deter fans.
@Senua What we have seen last time of Halo Infinite is certainly not "state of the art" in visual fidelity. (I'm still hopping it's gonna be upgraded). Plus, it's is also still planned for Xbox One. So it will be scary if it can't manage 4k60 on SX, but even there I still suspect dynamic resolution will be in the picture.
As for the others, we haven't seen them.
This is the same situation with the competition. Look as how the "groundbreaking" Ratchet & Clank can't handle both.
@OliverOwen This was marketing plows. This "next gen" will never support any thing 4k/60fps at AAA-level realism (can't even do current gen). They could have, but not at $499 as sold
@blinx01 It seems they can't "just" release a next-gen patch that easily ; for Sony, it is actually considered a separate release, requiring double validation costs and time. And performance is limitted when running on PS4 mode. Maybe Microsoft has it relatively easier, but impossible to say.
@sib New Vegas has the best plot and tone (not too much black & white), but has a little more references of the past games (not that they are necessary). Gameplay relatively similar with F3. F4 is a better looking but a dumbed down version.
@KelticDevil Certainty not saying I like it. Just stating it's how Sony is "doing" retrocompatibility. Kinda the same policy that Nintendo actually. Being dominant in the market for now, they can clearly get away with such practice.
We like Microsoft for doing the nice thing, but never forget it's the dramatic failure of XBOne that pushed there. Were the market share inverted, we certainly won't have any of that.
@ThanosReXXX But your premise is wrong. Sony is going for the pie, but for the fattest parts (subscriptions to PsNow, remasters and possible single games sold separately and emulated, PS3/nintendo style).
Offering full on retrocompatibility with just the disk bring no money, as the games themselves are no longer sold. And its absence has yet to prove detrimental (it doesn't for now).
@Fath Making the behaviour illegal is impossible without large side effects. What do you forbid exactly ? Forbid selling higher than MSRP would destroy collectors market. Forbidding resale entirely and you have killed the used market.
Freedom is freedom for all, not for when it's convenient. The only good answer to the situation is to stop supporting companies that do fake paper launch for marketing reasons instead of when supplies are actually ready.
@ThanosReXXX Based on sales of all generations for Sony, I'll say the bullet missed the foot.
And yes they totally could emulate previous gen. But what's the point for Sony ; people still buy the hardware and the remaster cash machine has to be milked.
@ThanosReXXX At that time, the PS3 had to basically carry the PS2 CPU in the motherboard to do the retrocompat. They cut it to reduce the PS3 price when it struggled, and since they got away with it, well, retrocompatbility was burried.
I mean, not linking gameplay or animation to your framerate is Game Programming 101 for almost a decade now. How it could still happen ? 30FPS to 60FPS should be a setting to 95% of titles (especially PC-released ones)
How the hell an electronic device can generate so much smoke. I've seen an used GPU (RTX1070) literally going in flame and it didn't generate any similar amount of smoke.
@nessisonett The fabled superior SSD is only superior on architecture, not on raw read/write speed. Games not build for PS5 are just on a regular SSD. Faster loads but not the fastest.
@Terrin Exactly this. As games costs more and more each passing year, exclusivity deals will get too expensive for platform owners. But could and will see quality options being exclusive in the near future.
I don't get why he keeps saying that. Is he binded by contract ? Even if it end up true, zero percent of his audience will believe that. It just ruins his own reputations.
@graysoncharles Yes it's very likely HDDs will get seriously outdated / plain unsupported in future PC gaming. It's already unsupported for XS/PS5 games. People with 2To/4To will have it hard.
SSDs are a serious improvement for the console, more than anything else. This is the one thing that I no longer compromise on PC and it's good to finally have them here !
@Deadcow won't count on that. Sony is dominant worldwide except in the US. They have the big enough fanbase to pull this kind of stuff and get away with it.
@TheGamerKing Sony is clear, you can play the exact same PS4 Spiderman with zero changes on PS5. Only the paid Remastered edition profits from upgrades.
@Fenbops Yeah there is many concerning reports from devs that the PS5 marketed power is actually some form of turbo mode, not sustainable in long periods.

@EvilSilentFrame Well they purchase Square Enix as well. Problem solved 👍
Re: Xbox Boss Responds To Sceptics, Uses Price Of Game Pass As Example
@Bleachedsmiles It is already there. No one is defending or wanting this, but it's gonna be the default. DLC is where the profit is to be found.

@Krzzystuff At the end of the day if no funds are allocated to fix, the only option is to pull sales. Better legally than selling a faulty product.

@IndoorHero Seriously what's with the disdain and kicking of the game here ? Come on.
It's cash shop only.

@Dezzy70 4k from 1080p is 4x times the pixel count (this is a surface. Double both side side, you have 4 times more)

@Trmn8r Yeah that is bad as *****. Does not look promising with the communication already collapsing so hard (leaks and such)

@KelticDevil We have the same analysis.
I feel like Sony, especially outside of the USA, have a totally dominant position and thus will get away with any form of arrogance.

@RadioHedgeFund This frozen gaming price is a part of why we got alternative (and sometime abusive) monetization systems, actually.
