We saw a couple of weeks ago that some influencers had been sent non-working, prototype versions of the Xbox Series X, but this time, a select few journalists have actually got their hands on the real deal.
The likes of IGN and Digital Foundry have received the Xbox Series X, which is actually a "not quite final" preview version of the unit, and you can see some brief footage of the system (and its 1TB Expansion Card) below:
Lots of hands-on impressions and technical breakdowns have been promised from those who are lucky enough to have received the console so far, so hopefully we'll learn a lot more about it very soon!
What are you hoping to see now that the Xbox Series X is out in the wild? Let us know in the comments.

"Let's get to work".
Please, do. Digital Foundry is one of the few serious gaming websites that exist (of course, Pure Xbox too but you know what I mean). Test backwards compatible and current-gen games already!
F*** it out of all IGN just posted they got one. 😖
Some people just don’t deserve to have one before everyone else - IGN, Geoff Keighley, Techradar, Kotaku, Verge, VentureBeat...
Can't wait for Digital Foundry's analysis of both the internals and actual game performance. Have been following them since 2017.
Looking forward to the coverage.
Digital Foundry are the probably the only ones that will give us to good technical and comparison information.
@Dezzy70 If I were them, the first thing I'd do is launch Monster Hunter World, a game whose performance is choppy even on Xbox One X in all modes. I'd test the frame rate and the variable refresh rate.
I'm so looking forward to getting my one. Have been promised a 4K TV for my 40th birthday in November the whole family are chipping in. Having this and my switch I'm happy. Will be following digital foundry to get me even more hyped.
@BlueOcean DF is a bunch of Playstation fanboys. I'm sure in their tests the PS5 will be the best console.
@BlueOcean
Could never get into that game and I did try.
The first game I shall download on realise is new assassins creed. Like to explore and being old England will be fun. I think we are getting 4K 60fps and some good graphical perks as well.
Wonder what the preorder series x to series s split is. I heard the series x is around 75% plus and all sold out, as there are some series s left.
Me thinks they need to make a few more series x for preorder.
@sanderev Concerning Digital Foundry, Thomas Morgan is not a good professional (sorry, nothing personal), he doesn't see things that even I can see at home (I own some of the games and sometimes more than one version) and he writes generic and vague explanations about the different versions, usually favouring Sony and Nintendo (his Switch vs. Xbox One X comparisons are hilarious, "Switch holds up very well with just a minor things here and there", etc.). John Linneman and Richard Leadbetter are objective, specific, credible and have much more knowledge as far as I can tell.
@Dezzy70 And don't forget Auto HDR.
@BlueOcean
The new assassins creed I would think will use programmed HDR in the game. And no need for auto hdr like for games without hdr.
@Dezzy70 Sure, I mean for backwards compatible games and current-gen games without HDR. More frames, higher resolution, HDR... 😄
@BlueOcean
Yes you are correct, will be interesting to see how it looks. I should be good.
@Dezzy70 We are in for a treat.
@BlueOcean
Did you get a preorder series x in the end.
@TheFrenchiestFry they are the best
@graysoncharles 4 Xbox’s, 3 PlayStation’s, The Switch which in spite of being one console has two different levels of performance for handheld and docked mode and PC.
@sanderev Have you watched a digital foundry video since the Xbox One X came out? They have been favouring Xbox now that the top Xbox is the best performing console.
The "professionals" the now at work. very very excited about their findings and tests. Would love to see and know everything about the console ASAP.
@Dezzy70 Yes 😄.
@Senua
I agree!
@BlueOcean
Well done. Took me 20 minutes of madness but got Argos in the end series x.
@Dezzy70 Well done 😄. I'm also curious about the changes in the controller.
I expect that they are under some NDA so cannot talk about too much until a set point in time. Would be nice to know when NDA's lift and what they can talk about. I wouldn't be surprised if they have multiple NDA's - can only talk about 'X' after a certain date, 'Y' after another date and 'Z' (reviews and everything else) after another date.
Is this a sign of confidence from MS with their product or is this normal? I can’t wait to see what the X can really do. Also interested to see how the PS5 performs comparatively, I get the feeling it’s weaker than most are expecting.
@Fenbops Yeah there is many concerning reports from devs that the PS5 marketed power is actually some form of turbo mode, not sustainable in long periods.
@Dezzy70 You might want to start using VGTech. DF will explain the tech, but if you want the same or better metrics without DF's garbage opinions, then they got you covered.
@Fenbops Microsoft has been confident and transparent with the hardware from February.
@Senua I agree, which is why I’ve opted for the X instead of PS5 for now. I could be completely wrong but something seems fishy about the PS5.
@Fenbops could not agree more. Last gen PlayStation was very upfront however this gen is a complete 180.
They have explained very little concerning ps5 but only shown game trailers. Like damn that’s cool but what about the actual console.
So excited for the Digital Foundry breakdown videos! So much I want to know... How do 360/OG xbox games run, does it have freesync compatibility, how well to the backwards compatible xbox one games run. Not sure what they can cover regarding new games/ updated for Series X games since none of those are out yet...
