Multiple Games From The '90s Are Making Their Xbox Debuts This Week

I don't know about you, but the older I get, the more I find myself retreating towards retro games as my ideal form of entertainment, rather than the sprawling open-world epics of today. Don't get me wrong, I still love a big AAA title when the mood strikes, but there's something particularly cosy about sinking into games from the '90s as well.

With that in mind, I've had my eye on a few brand-new releases that contain multiple '90s games making their Xbox debuts this week. The first of these is SiN Reloaded, which is a remaster of the 1998 PC shooter from the geniuses at Nightdive Studios, and a game that "pushed the Quake II Engine to its limits".

The second release is the Alien Breed 35th Anniversary Collection, which brings six Commodore Amiga versions of Alien Breed games from the '90s to Xbox for the first time, adding in new features like visual filters, p2p online co-op in Rush Mode, improved frame rates, a whole bunch of behind the scenes content, tactical save states and more.

Those six games are as follows:

• Alien Breed (1991)
• Alien Breed: Special Edition (1992)
• Alien Breed II: The Horror Continues (1993) (ECS and AGA versions included)
• Alien Breed: Tower Assault (1994) (Amiga and CD32 versions included)
• Alien Breed 3D (1995) (CD32 version)
• Alien Breed 3D II: The Killing Grounds (1996)

In terms of whether either of these are worth it, most of the reviews for SiN Reloaded seem to be falling around the 7-8/10 mark as things stand, while the Alien Breed 35th Anniversary Collection only appears to have one review at the time of writing, in which GameSpew describes it as a good collection aside from some games that haven't aged well.

There's a surprise third release that should be mentioned here as well, which is the shadow drop of XEVIOUS 3D/G as part of the Arcade Archives 2 lineup. Games from AA2 almost never get announced ahead of time, and they're released on what appears to be a bi-weekly basis, so this is the latest one.

Arcade Archives 2 XEVIOUS 3D/G (September 23, £14.99 / $16.99, Xbox Series X|S Only)
