Re: Talking Point: You're The New Head Of Xbox, What Do You Do Now?

Gunonaboat

I remember Phil making a comment a few years back that they lost the generation that people built their digital libraries with (PS4/Xbox1).

I think the strategy they had was good, they just botched it by moving too fast.

Long term - double down on Gamepass and cloud gaming. Give people access to Xbox games (through Gamepass) where they want - i'm talking cloud apps on mobiles and TVs. PC gaming also works.
I believe in we only have 1-2 more console generations before everything changes again in some way, and accessibility to Gamepass with help Xbox win without the need to invest in a new console (but we are way too soon for that).

Short term.
Make Gamepass good value for money again. Cut some volume, make it cheaper. It needs to be the "netflix of games" and right now it's too expensive. This way as you expand accessibility to your games, through Gamepass on other platforms - you expand the reach and how essential Gamepass becomes to consumers. Sony and Nintendo right now are failing at this.

Second - tighten up and clarify the multiplat strategy.
What are your Xbox only IPs? (Gears, Halo, Forza, Fable in my opinion) - these are only ever on Microsoft ecosystems (Xbox, Gamepass, pc)
What are tier two? (Starfield, double fine etc) That have a 1-2 year exclusivity window. This MIGHT come to other platforms, but only after at least 1 year.
Tier 3 - what needs to succeed to be profitable (Activision, Bethesda, COD)? These are all consoles day 1

I think doing that helps the fanbase know what to expect. Where and when. And then as the gaming world evolves in the next 10-15 years, you are set up for success

Re: Opinion: It Feels Like Microsoft Is Planning A Huge Final Year Of Xbox Series X|S In 2026

Gunonaboat

I feel like this gen didn't live up to it's potential yet.
Both Sony and Xbox haven't released enough (actually Xbox has done more in my opinion, but no absolutely must plays yet).

After Microsoft's huge buying spree, I was hoping to see more. It looks like we're starting to get there but it's not quite enough yet.
I personally feel like a new console generation even is 2 years is too soon. I think/hope for 2030 as a timing...

Re: Xbox: 'You Are Going To See More Of Our Games On More Platforms'

Gunonaboat

As load of others have said - I have no issue with Microsoft doing multiplatform games.

But as a business model, I think they need to be REALLY clear what are the "sacred" Xbox IPs that will never be anywhere other than Xbox (and PC), and then everything else is case by case - and most should probably have an exclusivity window of a year or so, unless it's something like CoD which has very frequent releases

Re: EA Reportedly 'Shot Down' Pitch For Star Wars Battlefront 3

Gunonaboat

Well EA would have known that licencing means a game needs to sell more. That would have been obvious when they signed the deal.
Either speculation or a change in leadership at EA.

I think more that the last few Dice games have struggled and they don't want to risk it from a fan pov. Disney probably stopped it

Re: Site News: Pure Xbox Officially Relaunched One Year Ago Today!

Gunonaboat

Super happy you guys came back. Nintendolife and pushsquare are my go to places for news and I was missing what Microsoft was up to.
You just need Microsoft to start seeing the fruits from buying all those studios so you have more to talk about!

I was thinking there's probably some synergy between the 3 sites to be had. NL often does stuff on retro consoles you could consider leveraging?
