Talking Point: You're The New Head Of Xbox, What Do You Do Now?

Much has been said already about the retiring Phil Spencer and new Xbox boss Asha Sharma, and regardless of whatever viewpoint you might have about it, one thing's for sure — a job like this isn't easy for anyone to step into.

Head of Xbox (otherwise known as "Microsoft Gaming CEO") comes with a theoretical freedom to curate a new vision for the brand and turn Xbox into essentially whatever you want it to be (as long as the higher-ups at Microsoft approve, of course), but it also comes with a litany of challenges that every Xbox boss has stumbled over at one point or another, and mistakes will be made along the way.

This is probably the most challenging time for anyone to step into the role as well, even considering how Phil Spencer took the reigns after an abomination of a launch event for the Xbox One. That console had at least released by the time Spencer got the job, and he'd already worked in Team Xbox for many years before that point anyway, whereas Sharma is a gaming newcomer who has just witnessed the closure of studios, cancelled games, a controversial "This is an Xbox" campaign, and an overall feeling that Xbox might have lost its way.

Then again, you could look at it as an amazing time for Sharma to step into those shoes. It's the 25th anniversary of Xbox, we've got multiple major games slotted into the 2026 schedule already (Forza, Fable, Gears and Halo), a new console is in the works, and in theory she just needs to steer the ship in a stable direction — the core parts have already been established for the next couple of years at least.

When you're placed in such a major role and having to learn a ton of information in such a short time, it certainly helps that you've got some pillar franchises getting new games in the same year, not to mention a console that's seemingly set in stone for the most part already. It seems unlikely she'll make any sweeping changes to whatever's planned in terms of new hardware over the next 12-24 months.

So, with all of that in mind, we're really curious to know what you would do if you were placed in Asha Sharma's shoes. Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond have gone, they're going to give you all the advice they possibly can, but it's up to you to steer the ship from now on. How do you ensure Xbox satisfies its fans and achieves expectations inside of Microsoft in the future? We'd love to hear from you in the comments!
