Xbox Adds 76 Games To Backwards Compatibility Including TimeSplitters, Max Payne & Star Wars

I’ve seen so many people ask for max payne, doa and fear. What a list. I’ll be on skate 2!

Will some of these also hit Game Pass?

So how do we purchase these? I’m only interested in ridge racer 6, but would need to buy a digital copy. You can’t do that I seem to remember reading?

The 3 Dead or Alive games and Gunvalkyrie have my interest (well, I've played DOA 4 so I know I like that one). I'll have to give a look into the others and see they tickle my fancy.

Hopefully I can find some of these physically so I can just pop them into my Series X and play that way. Lovely to see so many announced at once!

I hope we’ll see even more updates for BC, it feels strange that they added Risen 1 and 2, but not 3.

All i care about is that Lego Lord of the Rings is playable again for me! This was one of the Lego games i didn't get to finish and have been wanting to finish for a long time!

This is great. There are some gems on this list and also some strange ones. I would be lying if I didn't want more seeing as this is the end. But I'll take it.

Very glad to see the Timesplitters games finally get added to BC. But even with 70 games added today there are still some titles I would readily buy if MS decides to add more, such as Daisenryaku VII: Modern Military Tactics, OutRun 2006: Coast2Coast, and Afterburner Climax.

Only other original Xbox games I would want are Lord of the Rings (Two Towers, ROTK and Third Age), The Matrix games, and Simpsons Hit and Run.

When do these go live and on the digital store?

I hate to sound ungrateful, but a lot of these are pretty lame. Who was asking to play Are you Smarter than a 5th Grader, Mini Ninjas, or Chicken Little?

There's some great stuff and I'm happy for what we got, but i don't see why it would be worth doing games like those when stuff like Alpha Protocol, Bionic Commando ReArmed, and the original Arkham games are still stuck on 360, not to mention Jet Set Radio Future and other og Xbox classics.

I'm very excited for many of these games and for fps boost too

Some of them are now available in the store. FEAR 2 is £15.99, waiting for mortal kombat. So happy that got added.

It’s a bit dodgy right now, it let me claim Cloning Clyde for free (I already own it), acknowledges that I own Party Animals, but wants me to pay for Death By Cube again. Even though I own all 3 digitally on 360, that’s 3 different outcomes.

@101Force I actually love Disney Universe. It's a 4-player couch co-op game similar to a Lego-style game where they aren't very punishing. And obviously, Lego Lord of the Rings

It seems like Max Payne 3 is not available for digital downloading, at least in my country 😞

Not quite time to send my 360 to the graveyard. These are the last batch until the next time they add a last batch. Guessing they are saying that just to stop the begging or at least keep it to a minimum. Maybe for the 25th Anniversary we will get 25 more. Fingers crossed.

Nice, lots of big hitters there. Still a lot of favorites of mine missing, but I am definitely gonna have to pick up Skate 2, Timesplitters, DOA's, Motal Kombats, Ridge Racer 6, and the Max Payne games.

They added the truly great Dead or Alive games, that's what I've been waiting for. Also cool to see Ridge Racer 6, probably the last good entry in the series.

Already own Quake arena arcade on 360 (digitally) . However the store on my series x says I have to buy it. Or should I have a little more patience?

I think a good solution for saving HD space on your series X would be to leave your Xbox one setup with an external HD attached and install the back compat games your want on that.

I'm actually happier about the list of FPS boost games than the new and final list of backwards compatibility titles. Obviously I'm glad that some people are happy about them, but there wasn't much on the list that screams "PLAY ME!". Too many games left in my backlog and then future releases to play old games I never would have played otherwise besides maybe the Max Payne games and the F.E.A.R. games.

Kind of a shame this will be it forever, as I still have a disc or two that I can never play again that I would have liked to see added.

@Nightcrawler71 As much as I would like those to be BC, they are difficult for exactly the reasons mentioned in the article - Bizarre Creations is defunct so MS would likely be dealing with an uninterested Activision, plus re-licensing cars and sound tracks would be expensive.

Some of these new ones doesn’t show up on my ”all owned games”, I have to search for them in the store to install them… probably just a very temporary thing.

Was so Hoping Out Run 2 and the Simpsons racing games would of made the cut especially since this is apparently it “forever” but great additions nonetheless!! Better than Zip!

@norwichred it’s available on the Xbox marketplace. All of the games they announced today for BC is not in the backward compatible category yet, you have to search for them individually. I’m playing it right now!

Jedi Knight 2 is really nice, most of the rest is kinda meh for me. Although I'm sure some people are really stoked. The FPS boost tho, that's crazy amazing.

Original fear shows as currently not available. Just like the left for dead games. Is that some sort of region thing? I am in the Neterlands.

@K1LLEGAL Yeah it's definitely a bit iffy. Stuff like Max Payne 3 and Onechanbara are showning up in my library but Vandal Hearts isn't and they want to charge me £9.99 for it. Hopefully they sort it out soon.

Can anyone explain with certain games on the back compared list on Xbox series why they shows as being able to be viewed but not Available to buy? Just seems off that they are there at all if you can’t ever buy them? Ms Pac-Man is one, Daytona USA, Prince of Persia etc. Do you know at all @FraserGilbert

I'm having the same problem. Buying some of them on disc is next to impossible so digital is the only way for me. I can see them on Xbox Marketplace but can't buy them. What gives?

First of all, excellent news.

Secondly, why didn't Sega submit Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing? It's Sonic, it's not James Bond. Because everybody thinks of the sequel, I have that on Wii U and Xbox 360 but the original game looks awful on Wii and the 360 version is so much cleaner. I don't really get why Sega hasn't made it available while Capcom has made the hated Operation Raccoon City available (not complaining, I'm also a Resident Evil fan). Last but not least, the 360 version is the only one that features Banjo and Kazooie!

I'd wait as @FraserG suggests, the old/new stores still give Microsoft a lot of headaches, that's why they're moving everything to the new one but I guess they have to keep the old one for as long as they want to support the Xbox 360 consoles out there. Besides, for buying in-game content on an Xbox One or Series X/S by pressing the Menu and View buttons, the UI also connects to the old store.

@jarvismp Use the marketplace webstore for 360 purchases.

Managed to get all the Star Wars but Episode 3 which just keeps saying "oops something went wrong"

(On a side note i didn't still have the physical xbox version so going digitalinstead, still got the PS2 version though)

@norwichred You are doing nothing wrong, you have to be a bit patient and wait until it gets added to the website or to the console store. It seems that they're still ironing the issues out.

Been looking for Ridge Racer 6 on the UK store but nowhere to be seen. Quiet a few of the games seem to be unavailable in the UK. Anyone know why?

Super happy we finally have more backwards compatible games!
Also, super sad that they have now said this will be the last of them when still so many great games never got the backwards compatible treatment.

Still a shame that many Sonic games have not been made backwards compatible.
Heroes, Shadow and '06 are in need of backwards compatible releases in Xbox One/Series. The Xbox Series X's beefed up CPU and SSD would finally fix the constant loading in '06 and make it a much more tolerable experience.
Also, I am disappointed that they may never update New Vegas with 4K support. To this day, the game is only 720p even on One X and Series X.
Only the PC version supports 4K and thank God and while I primarily play Bethesda games on PC, I really wish console players would get to play New Vegas in 4K as well.
