Re: With Its Next Console, Xbox Is Making A Big Commitment To Backwards Compatibility

ScalenePowers

I think backwards compatibility is vital to the Xbox brand at this point. Both Nintendo and Sony have past mistakes that keep their libraries from being easily consolidated, to buy a Series x is to have access to 24 years of games.

What should probably be stated is that I’d really appreciate the continued support for a disk drive. I know I’m the minority, but this is crucial in the backwards compatibility conversation

Re: Roundup: FBC: Firebreak Is A Step Down For Remedy, Early Reviews Suggest

ScalenePowers

I am going through something of a Remedy deep dive at the moment, and am finding myself frustrated at this game.

I hope that it was a passion project from the crew, but for a team renown for some of the all time greatest single player experiences it’s a bitter pill. I had a anted to make some sort of “completionist run” of remedy games and this is now included in that conversation in a tough way

Re: According To Sales Estimates, Final Fantasy 16 Had A Rough First Week On Xbox

ScalenePowers

A lot of these comments have addressed things that I might have said.

So I’ll say that I was literally playing Final Fantasy XIII on my Xbox via backwards compatibility. It is the best way to play that game in 2025. But final fantasy XVI shadow dropping a digital only release for $50 dollars is wild!

It is actually insane to me that devs do this. I know that a good shadow drop can bring hype, but step back for a second and imagine the ask it is to say to your audience “and you can spend 50 RIGHT NOW!”

This is unsustainable

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (June 14-15)

ScalenePowers

I am 12 hours into Final Fantasy XIII and I finally get it!! So I’m gonna ride this thing till the wheels fall off - or else I get bored and shelf it for a week.

I beat Max Payne last night (which weirdly doesn’t have a page on this website!) and it was so hyped!!! It was my first dive into Remedy games and I couldn’t be more excited for the sequel and Alan Wake!

Re: Developer Reveals Surprisingly Critical Feedback After Launching On Xbox Game Pass

ScalenePowers

I think there is a lot to say about this. I imagine that the service has plenty of success stories (Clair Obscur comes to mind - although using that as a benchmark feels unfair as it is probably an all time great.)

I 100 percent agree with the devaluing of games, though I think Gamepass is not singularly responsible for that. The entire industry as it has been built is a conveyor belt of “content.” Finishing a game, then moving to the next and letting the wash over you without reflection. I’m guilty of it too.

Re: Last Chance! What Are Your Final Hopes For The Xbox Games Showcase 2025?

ScalenePowers

I couldn’t have predicted the announcements from the State of Play that made that show so impactful for me (Bloodstained! Romeo is A Deadman!) so let me try to sum up how I could be excited

I want a brand new game from a creator I love that leans into what I’ve enjoyed in the past, while adding new surprises. I’d like some trailers that differentiate themselves from others in the show (this kinda killed summer games fest for me) and most of all I would love to see believable release dates for late 2025/2026 please!!!

Also Witcher remake

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (June 7-8)

ScalenePowers

Oooh!! I just started Final Fantasy XIII!!! I’ve always wanted to try it and physical copies are like $6

So far it’s okay… I know the complaint is how linear it is, but I think what will turn me off (if anything) is some of the characters. I like Lighting and Sazh, but Hope and Snow are… not… good 😬

Re: Poll: How Would You Grade The Summer Game Fest 2025 Showcase?

ScalenePowers

I enjoyed a lot of the non-game pieces, Sonic producer calling out Mario Kart World/Splitgate guy calling out COD - it was fun!

However I blame the format of the show for how little any of the games leave impact. It’s a great way to get a spotlight on new announcements, but my brain can only latch on to so many announcements at a time.

State of Play was a really great show for that reason I guess. Looking forward to Xbox Showcase!

Re: Our Predictions For The 2025 Xbox Games Showcase

ScalenePowers

@Ilyn I think it would be so cool to see them return to a DS1 style, though I think DS2 had some really excellent dungeons as well. It would be a real “does what Nintendon’t” especially in the era of modern Zelda.

Honestly I loved all of them (including 3!) and will be okay with whatever as long as it’s not aiming for an open world AAA sort of thing :/

Also I’d love it to be set in some more fantastical environments. Apocalypse-metropolitan grates after a bit

Re: Our Predictions For The 2025 Xbox Games Showcase

ScalenePowers

My number one wish is news on Darksiders 4. I think that’s going to be a gamescom thing though!

Gothic and Witcher remakes would be neat. But I really love the Spyro and Doublefine wishes you have here!

Ever wild would be neat.. or at least I could get information on wether or not I should care lol

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 31 - June 1)

ScalenePowers

I got through the lore dump at the beginning of Act 3 in Clair Obscur I am at the same time both intrigued and dissuaded from returning right away, so perhaps not that.

Meanwhile i just started Act 2 of Max Payne and things have started to get weird!! I will likely play more of that, but it’s so dark that it’s hard to see when I play in the day time lol.

So idk maybe I’ll read a book or something… or finish Kameo: Elements of Power!!

Re: Report: BioShock Announcement Set For This Summer As 2K Prepares Franchise Return

ScalenePowers

Now that System Shock 1 is out and 2 is on the way I am interested in taking on this whole 3rd person adventure saga

I’m actually playing Dead Space 1 for the first time ever and remembering the prestige tropes of the era - the in-engine non-cutscenes where a character talks at you, audio-logs that would never exist in real life, and “environmental storytelling” that is just people writing on the walls for you. A TWIST!

I know it was impressive stuff when Bioshock and Dead Space premiered but I’m pretty sick of it lol

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 10-11)

ScalenePowers

I just got on the Clair Obscur train with everyone else! It’s almost unbelievable

This is not only my first Xbox Series X exclusive, since I have only had a Switch I never played any of the gorgeous Xbox One games. The leap is staggering

Also I think the difficulty has been a little overstated. Not that it can’t be tough, but it respects the grind and if you level ahead I think most fights are a breeze

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Feel About Linear Vs. Open World Games On Xbox?

ScalenePowers

I was hyped for Biomutant in like 2019. I only owned a switch and thought it might be a fun concept! Now that I’m fully in Xbox the idea of playing a an open world game (that isn’t absolutely stellar!) just seems exhausting.

That said a game like the Witcher 3 earns it’s open endedness, as has Judgement so far (not too big thankfully!)

Basically I’ll skip a game because it’s an open world but I recognize I may not reflect the greater gaming community

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 3-4)

ScalenePowers

I am most of the way through Mass Effect 2!! as good as the first one was, I really didn’t love how 2 began.

I think I’m officially enthralled by it now though, as I’ve just recruited Tali and helped Jacob with his daddy issues.

If I don’t play that I’ll be chipping away at Enslaved: Odyssey to the West which totally owns
