Re: Microsoft 'Wraps Up' Xbox Series X|S Era As Hardware Chief Teases What's Next

ScalenePowers

I genuinely am shocked to read all the positive comments. Generations have been extended for over the last few hardware cycles and I expected the same from the Series X. It will have been 5 years in November, but the Xbone was 7, and the 360 6 years. I was hoping to see this Gen eek out at least 8, but calling 4 years and change the “wrapping up of this journey” is a bitter pill.

I guess we will have to see, it’s not like they are saying new console next year or anything.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (August 16-17)

ScalenePowers

This weekend I’d like to continue playing Prince of Persia: Sands of Time

This is my first time attempting the thing and while the quality for a 2003 game is obvious… it’s also really frustrating 😅
I’m constantly yelling at the prince for not doing what I am trying to make him do!! Though I think that is really more of a problem with combat. Platforming is more of a game of patience and I’m enjoying that aspect.

I may have enjoyed PoP 2008 a little more though

Re: Rockstar Working 'Close' With Remedy As Max Payne 1+2 Development Advances

ScalenePowers

I just played them for the first time this summer - they are brilliant. I’m not sure that they need a remake in that they are basically still perfect and playable in 2025, but I will still get this remake.

I would like a few things, the first of which is subtitles for all of the tv and radio conversations. Secondly it would be neat to see these originals with a few Easter eggs for us Remedy-heads. Isn’t Max Payne supposed to have been written by Alan Wake? Something like that?

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (August 2-3)

Last week I binged Bioshock and had the loveliest time. I knew the twist, but I was still thrilled to experience it, and honestly Rapture is something that needs to be experienced to appreciate.

This week it’s another round of classics, as I’m alternating between Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. it’s my first time through them both, and I can already see the quality! Xbox may be dropping the ball on exclusives but it is home to the best backlogs lol

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 26-27)

ScalenePowers

I am a first time Bioshock player this week! So far it has earned all of the hype that people have poured onto it. All of the trappings of a prestige 7th gen game are present but executed flawlessly.
The first time I used telekinesis to fling a grenade back at a splicer was magic.

I really wanted to leap off of this series as my first introduction into the immersive sim genre. System Shock, Prey, Dishonored, and whatever else is out there!

Re: No Rest For The Wicked May Skip Xbox 'For The Time Being' Due To 'Current Market Conditions'

ScalenePowers

Yeah, I can’t see a conspiracy here? Like we probably just don’t have all the details, but I’m sure it comes eventually.

Also Re: the game itself. It looks lame lol. Moon Studios and Heart Machine are two studios who made some of the best and intentionally crafted experiences in the entire indie space. And both of their long awaited new projects are roguelikes? It’s kind of an instant turn off

Re: Talking Point: Are You Excited For Double Fine's Follow-Up To Psychonauts 2?

ScalenePowers

If this game didn’t have DoubleFine attached to it I would have zero interest

I am very tired of emotional story/no dialogue/prestige platformer. It feels awfully generic from a studio that I expect the total opposite - even if it isn’t a sequel to something I already like!

Also I know I’m just coming off as a hater, but people like Doublefine… for their writing? Why does this game not have writing?

Re: Rare Is Completely Re-Evaluating Its Development Process After Everwild Cancellation

ScalenePowers

Axing Everwild was probably a good idea in 2025, but one can’t help consider what other options there were since it’s development began.
Reading some interviews with (former?) Rare employees it seems a design ethos that informed Everwild and Sea of Thieves were that they wanted to make games that were always left field unique experiences. That sort of development can work - Kojima and Death Stranding comes to mind. It also is something devs need to have the juice for, and it really seems like modern Rare doesn’t?

I know they turned around SoT, but would it be the worst thing if some project management stepped in to say “let’s do a normal game this time lads!”

Re: Talking Point: What's Your Favourite Backwards Compatible Xbox Game?

ScalenePowers

Whew boy I have been waiting for this!

My Xbox is primarily a retrospective console, where I’m playing games that are mostly of the OG and 360 era!

Both Max Payne 1&2 are worth experiencing in 2025!
The first Psychonauts!
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Crimson Skies

On the 360 I’ve enjoyed
Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
Zone of the Enders HD Collection
Final Fantasy XIII
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
Prince of Persia (2008)

I also played Kameo: Elements of Power and Killer is Dead, but I think that they are kinda stinkers lol

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 5-6)

ScalenePowers

@Valhura it’s hard to tell having not played the OG, but load times are scarce and it didn’t notice any performance glitches. I have an older tv that caps at 1080p and I am pretty sure it was hitting that. I know pc people will always have their say, but I think it’s probably the best way to play Witcher 2

I don’t know that I agree on the dialogue but I know we all have our preferences! I don’t think this one will do much for you if didn’t care for 3. Having beaten both now I think 3 is far superior

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 5-6)

ScalenePowers

Being an Xbox owner means having access to Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and the update for series x is phenomenal (it looks better than the third game did on Switch, which is kinda funny.)

So I’ll prob keep playing that. I feel like I must be close to winding down chapter 2. It’s really neat to have extra context for things happening in Witcher 3!!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (June 28-29)

ScalenePowers

Like Forrest Gump accidentally finding himself inserted throughout history I am always tangential to the big conversations happening in gaming. Death Stranding 2 is in the discourse, and I’ve been replaying Zone of the Enders HD Collection
It’s kind of an odd duck for a Kojima joint, but it’s lovely. Especially on my Series X

Re: Report: Xbox Suffering Major Layoffs Next Week, Microsoft Declines To Comment

ScalenePowers

I think it’s fair to give a “Microsoft bad” take here. While it is common across the industry, it is not as common within console manufacturers.
This lines up with another complain about Xbox that we hear regularly- where dem 1st party exclusives.

A 1st party company should be a safer haven from this sort of industry volatility, but Nah. Microsoft is central to Silicon Valley, and participates in that corporate group think. It is to their detriment, and ours as well
