Report: BioShock Remake Cancelled As Upcoming Sequel Hits Development Troubles

It's been a very long time since we saw a brand-new BioShock title — more than a decade in fact — and it's looking like we're going to have to wait a good while yet for the follow-up to 2013's BioShock Infinite.

In recent days, Bloomberg has reported that the upcoming BioShock sequel has hit development troubles, as the folks over at 2K perform a bit of a reshuffle at developer Cloud Chamber. There's seemingly been a a big shakeup in terms of leadership on BioShock 4, to which 2K has responded with a statement:

"We are working hard to set BioShock up for the best possible future,

Right now, we have a good game, but we are committed to delivering a great one. We are working closely with leadership at the studio to define this path."

According to the original report, one of the reasons behind such a change in direction was the game's overall narrative. Story is of course a core piece of the BioShock puzzle, with Bloomberg noting that the sequel's narrative has been "identified as an area in need of improvement [that] will be revamped in the coming months".

Finally, as mentioned in the heading, this recent reshuffle over at 2K's BioShock HQ has seemingly led to the cancellation of a BioShock 1 Remake. We reported on news of a potential series remake back in May - and at the time, it was said the project could be announced this summer. According to this fresh report though, that's no longer happening, with 2K cancelling the remake earlier this year. For context, we'll chuck a link to that older report on BioShock down below.
