@Snake_V5 if renting or not buying at full price (also the used game market) was as detrimental as you seem to think then the 80s, 90s, an 2000s would've tanked the entertainment industry into oblivion. it didn't though. it was how most of us, back then, found the games we actually wanted to buy because this is a really expensive hobby an its not getting any cheaper. New things have come to fill the void of rental. Video streaming services an things like redbox filled that niche and has done so for well over a decade now but the gaming rental market has been empty till gamepass came around.
Renting, trying, etc is not and never will be a bad thing. Companies hated it back then because the ones profiting was the store being rented from. In streaming services, a revenue flow (yes that includes gamepass) is going back to the developers an that eliminates the main gripe companies had back then but thats all it was. just an annoying thorn, not the death of them all.
@Dreamcaster9999 no hes kinda right on the performance end. On my series X it definitely hangs around in the 30s - which is fine an playable - but at times it just wants to raise up well above that so for less than two seconds i'll see smooth framerate an then it just drops right back down into the 30s. Really not too sure whats up with that. Also a couple of times where the wall LOD is just right in your face. I did have to double take once because I thought my eyes played tricks on me when this bubble wall deflated quickly lol.
Definitely....needs some improvement in the performance area.
Games based around comedy are always going to be hit or miss. Its like the borderlands series, i have a few friends that avoid it like the plague because they can't stand its humor.
@electrolite77 the thing is is that the vast majority of us don't view anything in the entertainment industry to have political affiliation. Anything regarding video games an politics was just politicians trying their best to make video games potray things like violence and trying to appease parents and extremists as viewing it as such. To them, its all the same. They don't like big names overshadowing theirs so this entire ordeal is just two birds with one stone for ALL politicians.
its all just ridiculous to be honest. none of them have a clue about the internal workings or the flow of the industry at all. they're just in it for the camera focus for their own agendas.
@EliJapan not entirely sure what you're expecting with a f2p game..?
basically every other one has this exact same model. only difference here is free currency takes time to build up. quite a bit of time.
@GuyinPA75 thats just battlefield in a nutshell. try to be careful with your spawning. make sure you know what you're getting into. its very easy to mark a player that the entire enemy team can see.
I'll never get how I constantly see everyone using the internal storage as an argument but never see them say anything about the fact the series X and PS5 have the exact same woes. Most game sizes of the same game are smaller on the S. Usually around half the size. It results to about the exact same amount of games that land on the internal for all platforms. of which is between 4-7. I mean seriously, what do they expect us to do on XSX an PS5 when most big budget games are 50-80GB.
It applies to all platforms that if you want to have a decent amount of games downloaded with today's file sizes, more space is mandatory really.
@EquiinoxGII the game isn't actually all that demanding is the crazy part. they built for last gen an just basic ported to current gen. Why the pop in is so bad on XSeries an PS5s. all they really did was add a 4k/30 or 60fps toggle.
@uptownsoul I build hardware. I'm entirely aware of what memory bandwidth is. You seem to just be echoing what other people are saying.
"drastically underpowered". Its the same tech, its not as far behind as you seem to think.
"missing more features". you mean the 120fps mode meant for enthusiasts? I wouldn't say ray tracing, quite a few games do support ray tracing on the XSS. the resident evil remakes an the recently released SD gundam battle alliance to name a few.
"memory bandwidth" alright the brass meat an potatoes of this conversation i guess. Ignoring the fact that the L1, L2, an L3 cache specs aren't told and only the maximum that data can be read, written to or both to the ram from the cpu, which is what...224GB/s? for most modern day software, you blink an basically most, if not all, necessary data would already be written to ram from the cpu. The XSS was designed for medium to high models. anything of that nature could be dealt with easily there. its when you try to flood 4K models or ultra textures with a billion things going by that you'd start to see performance degradation (open world ring a bell?) which the devs are trying to do if the last year was anything to go by.
the only real issue the XSS has, hardware wise, is the fact the GPU's processing power was cut back. Its the same tech, it can do whatever the XSX could in terms of actually being capable technology wise. it really could have done with at least 1 or 2 more GHz an like 1 more GB of ram for games. but obviously the resolution has to be lowered with graphical fidelity being the choice of risking framerate or not.
the series S is "weaker" by design but not "drastically underpowered".
anyways i'm done, i need a nap. been awake for 30 hours.
developers decide how demanding their software is on hardware. Every single gen we have developers complaining. Every single one. Even though technology becomes leaps an bounds more than what it was the decade before.
one of these days i'll go back an find that specific moment in the DF vid where they chose different wording about the series S from devs. its been a month or two.
@uptownsoul yeah an according to digital foundry in a video much later on, they said that the only real complaint they hear from developers is the lack of ram.
"actually."
I really wouldn't put a whole lot of stock into digital foundry. Some of it, sure, but alot of the news is just extremely biased there.
@Thumper yeahh....thats not true. much like the xbox here, the ps store discounts the same games a billion times over too. i ran out of things i cared to buy much like the xbox that went on discount.
more so that its the publisher's decision what goes on discount. so it tends to be the same things anyway.
@JoakimZ if you're a fan of retro style platformers where normal mode is the original difficulty experience then, yes. they're short but very inticately designed games for its time. easy mode has farther attack reach and infinite lives.
@anoyonmus I dunno. The Xbox one era was rough but it wasn't short on people. A platform has a reputation but theres really only a handful that even see or have expectations like that. People tend to grab the platform their friend(s) are on first an foremost. after that, the games that exist draw in people that like said genre. people then get affinity for said platform and expectations that more come an they keep getting that.
Every platform has extremely large groups of people that like multiple genres. Trying to tie a genre to a platform is a little misguided. Xbox platform is, once again, growing at a pace similar to the other platforms so expectations will be set that things should be equal. Alot of people actually have every ecosystem or one or the other but will always have a preference on the platform they'd rather have it on.
Basing sales data off last gen numbers is probably not a good idea either. Those numbers will utterly change an be in flux when a new gen drops and people start swapping around again.
...but really, its megaman. where wouldn't that sell well.
@LOGICWINS SE has a lot of their games on the xbox. I think they already have their answer if they have an audience there or not. Alot of their stuff is even on gamepass. They do yearly rotations with everything as well. Hardly a case, at all, if they see if their stuff sells well - it clearly does or they wouldn't bother.
@IOI the adaptive triggers really aren't all they're cracked up to be. the "wow" factor lasted less than a week for me. that and apparently the parts in the triggers themselves just can't take it an the triggers break outright. i know someone with two pads, in less than 8 months, where the triggers just broke.
the rumble is nice though. the devs have to make it be nice though. which is rare.
@SpacemanJupiter everyone but you apparently. You not caring about eastern games appearing on xbox is fine an all, you're a demographic who looks elsewhere but that market is a HUGE CHUNK of the gaming industry. To have next to no support from it will have the platform** struggle incredibly (if last gen wasn't enough to show that) because if the consumer isn't expecting one of the the things they want then obviously they will not buy into the ecosystem.
This is not something you want. You want the industry to make for your platform because it will make western companies look at the platform as a potential case to sell their games globally.
Losing that market will hurt you getting what you want from the market you do want it from.
I literally didn't even know the game existed. I have every platform and the game just completely went by unnoticed.
Pretty sure there is a lot more to it than just game pass. Some more outright exposure would have probably helped. I was completely aware of haven when it was announced. Not my type of game but it was talked about at least an showed up here an there.
imagine my surprise when i learn of furi an that its an older title from these same people i only just became aware of because of haven and only became aware of furi from this "not bringing the dlc" over.
@suikoden They really aren't. In the US its pretty much the same. You can walk in to basically any store and get a Series S and a Switch. The entire xbox spot are filled up with S every delivery and the PS spot is filled up with PS gear. like ps5 headsets or controllers.
Walmart had a very extended amount of inventory awhile back. That was the most we saw at once. Its back to paying attention to drops again for most people. They get announced every week to two weeks usually by some retailers.
oh. the ps5 is just about non existent. I really don't see announced drops of those lately.
@Wolfster you keep using that term. rich. i'm not rich. not by a long shot, i'm just getting by really.
an yet i have the X and S, PS5, hell i even got the switch when that was impossible to find as well a good four or five years ago.
did i buy them from a scalper? absolutely not.
did my friends buy any of theirs from a scalper? no. no they didn't. they watched for drops. they stayed on top of it. until they finally got one. even my brother, who has next to no motivation to do that, has both a series X and S. he started with the series S and then got jealous both of his older brother's got a series X. He had his own series X within two weeks.
@TheSilverFalcon yes it did. Digital Rights Management. the DRM is the license you purchase to play the game. Wouldn't be a good look to developers if people could just download a game an play it scott free, no?
really is an odd issue though. nobody i knew was affected or myself.
I don't hate the new mode but it doesn't really make sense. its gun game with lives. You have lives an yet they drop overshield an cloak willy nilly. You lose a life for merely being in a spot or just spawning into hell itself.
I've always loved a system that makes you feel like your play has to be meaningful but halo is always chaotic. There is so much outside your own control that makes you eat dirt because thats just how halo is.
I've won a few times but never really been satisfied about it.
the battlepass grind continues to be slow but eh. I don't really care about it at this point, i'm just there to play the game at the end of the day. What i get is just a bonus but I didn't care about what I looked like back then. What I had was more a trophy of my efforts, like recon. Nothing more. Doesn't make me win any better thats for sure.
Skill jumps...i mean...eh? I think more skill in this would come down to map knowledge, being aware of enemy positions based on your own team or sound and just overly controlling the field** rather than just...trying to force a parkour in a game that wasn't really about it?
What happened to just playing the game for the sake of the game anymore.
really couldn't tell you. rare had pretty much an impact on me since i had my sega genesis with battletoads. i followed them all the way up to...nuts an bolts. an then that was about it sadly.

will have to wait a year or two when last gen is dumped and devs start to get creative with the current hardware.
