The Ubisoft CEO defended the pricing of the company's new release Skull & Bones last month, and now just weeks later, the co-op pirate game is already being slashed by multiple retailers.

As highlighted by our friends at VGC, retailers are already heavily discounting the title by up to $25 following its release on February 16 for $70.

VGC: "It hasn’t taken long for retailers to slash its price, with Best Buy currently offering the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions for $44.99, and UK retailer Hit pricing them at £49.85."

Ubisoft's CEO Yves Guillemot previously justified the price by stating it's a fully-fledged "quadruple-A game", which is "vast and complete".

The publisher also revealed last week how the game had experienced "record player engagement", although external reports claim it's actually got off to a pretty slow start, even with a free trial.
