Re: Sony SVP Discusses 'Moving Away From A Hardware-Centric Business Model'

@Fiendish-Beaver You're right in regards to Sony having their hands tied. I'm not sure how much power they have in regards to other platforms. For instance, I'm not sure if they can say "we're releasing this on Steam, but these platforms with access to Steam are not allowed to buy it". I don't get the technical behind the veil, so to speak.

Will they cut off a platform that already has access though, whilst still releasing everywhere else? I aint so sure they would. It just wouldn't make much sense to me for them to do that, when the option is already there and the port process is suggested to be super easy work if the next Xbox has the ability to play PC games.

Re: Two Games Are Available Today With Xbox Game Pass (August 12)

@HardRockGamer I'm really looking forward to Isolation 2. They nailed the vibe with Isolation. That said, I'd absolutely welcome the same sort of vibe with, say, Terminator. Terminator Isolation (set in a small town or somewhere desolate) would be creepy as hell so long as they channel the identity of the very first movie.

Re: Sony SVP Discusses 'Moving Away From A Hardware-Centric Business Model'

@Fiendish-Beaver I disagree. I think Sony, as the dominant platform, would be developing to sustain their income between their own base and the PC base - but they're not. They need as much of an audience as possible to bring home the bacon given the cost of the market. That said though, I do think HD2 will give them a direct peek into how worthwhile the Xbox market is.

Not that it would matter to them because if next gen rumours are true, we will have the ability to play their games nonetheless via (say) Steam or stream. It's going to be a fascinating gen imo.

you are easily satisfied, and I am harder to please... 😉

Tell that to my wife... O_o

Re: Xbox Is Adding A New Category To Help Filter Your Games Library

Kaloudz

Whilst they're at it (as much as I love the sound of this new addition) they could do with allowing us to search by developer and publisher - unless that's already a thing - and further, they should once and for all sort out the store reviews and implement a system that prevent people from reviewing a game without it displaying their playtime...

These stats are available in everyone's profile. It surely wouldn't be hard to achieve.

Re: Sony SVP Discusses 'Moving Away From A Hardware-Centric Business Model'

@Fiendish-Beaver No no, I considered them multiplatform the moment I saw that HD2 was coming over, grouped with the fact that the devs said it was all Sony, and then grouped with the fact that they posted a job listing with that intent. I reckon we start seeing their games sooner than later.

HD2 may very well be their equivalent to MS' "four games only" test.

Re: Helldivers 2 Coming To Xbox Was All Because Of PlayStation, Says Developer

Kaloudz

@cragis0001 That's one thing I'm very curious about. Will we see an age where PS Plus or Game Pass are on multiple platforms? If so, it then becomes a race to see who sells the most subscriptions, surely? I'd be surprised if we don't see regulator intervention again within the next ten years.

@Fiendish-Beaver Yeah that would be more ideal for me. That, or being able to return a clearly game breaking bug (as was my case with Mafia).

Re: Forza Motorsport Team 'Assures' Players That Support Will Continue

Kaloudz

@SuntannedDuck2 I totally agree. I think devs get caught up in the things that we disregard after just a few hours lol. I personally lived FM5 the most, but I get it; they have to go bigger and better, and unfortunately that comes at the expensive or a bigger budget that ultimately struggled to repay.

Re: Helldivers 2 Coming To Xbox Was All Because Of PlayStation, Says Developer

Kaloudz

@cragis0001 More games in Game Pass would be an interesting shout. Especially if they are indeed opening themselves to more storefronts next gen, and if the next Xbox really does play these games across multiple storefronts - streaming or natively - it's an interesting prospect to think about what might hit Game Pass through those other storefronts.

Haha, not had a hit of caffeine myself yet. I know the feeling. As for complaining to the gov, I wouldn't even know where to begin. I hear Steam has like a few hours worth of buffer - like, you can play the game and return it if you've only played an X amount of time. Something like that would be great.

Re: Sony SVP Discusses 'Moving Away From A Hardware-Centric Business Model'

Kaloudz

@Fiendish-Beaver You're almost laser focused on the prospect of someone else having a "gotcha" moment, when that's not what's relevant. What's relevant is the very fact that Sony are going multiplat. When MS made similar moves, you'd have thought the world came to a grinding halt.

Someone being able to sit back and say "told ya so" in an X amount of years is totally off point - and it's got nothing to do with what you order from McDonald's or what your doctor told you - it's got everything to do with the fact that this move from Sony was coherently unheard of and unspoken of this time last year...

The news here is that Sony is going multiplat. That's the news. That's big news. The when, the what, and the why is not important. The intent is what's important.

Re: Helldivers 2 Coming To Xbox Was All Because Of PlayStation, Says Developer

Kaloudz

@cragis0001 Mate the pricing of games is a must. I totally agree. I also hope it gives us some better returns options for games that are digital. Nothing worse than playing a broken game on Xbox that you cant return simply because you loaded it up. And yes you're absolutely right. MS have excellent vision, but sometimes they fall short on delivery (even just in the console space we can see how much this is true - Mixer, Kinect, etc...) They have to nail it, like you said.

Re: Sony SVP Discusses 'Moving Away From A Hardware-Centric Business Model'

Kaloudz

@Fiendish-Beaver That's just it. It doesn't just say live-service. Which is the point. If it was going to be live service only, that would have been made very clear from the off. I really don't understand why people are focusing so closely on making the discussion about the "when" or the "what" rather than the matter of fact. The big news is that Sony "is" going multiplat. The when or what is irrelevant because that's all guesswork.

As for the games that come over... Sony have a lot of decent IP I'd happily try out. TLOU is overrated IMO, but GoW doesn't look too bad, nor does GT and Uncharted.

Re: Sony SVP Discusses 'Moving Away From A Hardware-Centric Business Model'

Kaloudz

@Millionski It's baffling isn't it? The constant stance changing. I get that folks may be uncomfortable with change in the industry, but change isn't looking for friends...

We know as clear as day that Sony hasn't specifically said live service only, which means everything is on the table - otherwise Sony would have come out and said so.
