I just wish there was an official Xbox app for SteamOS, as I recently removed Windows from my Ally X, and installed the official version of SteamOS instead. Games run so much better and stable now, without Windows running in the background.

@Llamageddon I would say that at this point, they don't care about market share in Europe, the US, Asia, or anywhere else in the world.

@Coletrain I can see the UK price being £550 - £599. They could do it for £499 but I just can't see that being the case as its a niche product thats going to sell very limited numbers regardess of how cheap they make it.

I'm more surprised that the graphic features #playALLyourgames with the Xbox logo. We all know it won't play all games so the claim could easily land them in hot water.

Yeah I agree, OG MSRP is £599.99 for the z1e and £799.99 for X so no reason for them to shift on that (although the z1e is on sale at £400 a LOT of the time)

£600 is a very tough ask vs Steam Deck OLED. Yeah this has VRR and can play some games that SteamOS can’t, but ehhh that price is really suboptimal to say the least.

The higher tier one at least justifies its existence with a more powerful SOC than Steam Deck.

While the Xbox Ally and Ally X look amazing, the are still Windows devices that will NOT play Xbox games natively. As much as I'd love an Xbox Ally I can't justify the price, nor can I accept the Windows OS that means most of my Xbox library isn't playable.

That being said, what I am excited about is the confirmation that the next generation Xbox will again be using an incredibly powerful AMD Magnus APU with a 192 but BUS delivering raw graphics performance in the range of an RTX 5080 with the architectural advancements that Zen 6, Zen 6c, RDNA 5, and XDNA will bring with it.

While that's great news for the next gen Xbox, another tid bit has me even more optimistic. There will be a version of the AMD Magnus APU that targets a 35w TDP. It's suggested it'll power a Series S successor that'll be a handheld hybrid. The handheld CONSOLE will target 15w-25w in handheld mode and 35w in docked mode. This will allow easy development and porting across the 2 while giving Xbox another entry level next gen Xbox to sell. It only makes sense that a Series S successor would be a handheld Xbox hybrid console. I'm not making this up either, these information nuggets were recently leaked from AMD.

Xbox for next generation is going to be a beast, and I'm all for it. Xbox has been plugging away at bringing it's Xbox ecosystem together and it's finally taking shape. The Xbox ecosystem is thriving across consoles, Xbox on PC, and Xbox Cloud Gaming. They have over 100 million MAU across devices and their software is selling gangbusters, so much so that we're seeing Sony pivot themselves from being hardware focused to wanting to be ecosystem software centric. I suspect that console exclusivity will only exist with timed exclusives but eventually the companies will want their software to reach as many players as possible and that means selling their software across multiple platforms.

The console wars are dead, have been dead. Microsoft envisioned this years ago, it's no longer viable to have console sales dictate success as it's proven ecosystem is the way forward. We will see ecosystems become the measurement of success and right now the Xbox ecosystem is thriving. Don't believe me, research it yourself.

@Llamageddon what gave you that idea, surely not the zero advertisements for 15 years, on tv or any major events, or the fact they did zero partnerships with game or electronic stores or did anything to secure the same storeshelf space as Sony or Nintendo, aways giving the impression that xbox had practically no games compared to the other 2. Or it could not have been all the programs like rewards open to US but not Europeans

@Master_Cthulhu70 I am not buying anything xbox branded again until I see what they plan to release for next gen, if its not a PC/Console hybrid and reasonabley priced I am just going full PC next gen, I wont have access to .my back catalog which is the major downside but would still have access to xbox, most PS games and stay subscribed to gamepass if they improve the quality.

I'm sorry but something doesn't add up. The dollar is valued less than the euro so saying that estimated price for the lower tier model is $499.00 seems "wrong". Unless Microsoft is "eating the cost" of those handhelds to ensure that their estimated 400K units are sold. Like they did with the Xbox One and subsequent variations. No way Rog "eats that difference". The fact that one month (or less) to launch and NO OFFICIAL US Pricing is telling. Don't get me wrong. I hope that the new Gaming Interface removes the bloat that Windows brings to all devices and works as well as Steam OS, but that remains to be seen. I also hope that if (when) they release it for other Windows handhelds that it doesn't cost users another arm & a leg.

Unless they plan to make the entire Xbox back catalogue (third party included) play anywhere they need to rethink their advertising on this. It has class action lawsuit written all over it.

Currently, a PS5 Pro costs $699 and €799… So it has nothing to do with Xbox abandoning Europe or other nonsense you might hear.

You should do a little research before speaking. In the US, prices are shown without tax; the sales tax ranges from 0% to 10% depending on the state, and is only added at checkout. In Europe, prices are shown with tax included, which is around 20% depending on the country.

As for the exchange rate, $499 = €426. Because of fluctuations and to protect their margin, they have to increase the price in Europe.

Also, The logistics and distribution costs are, of course, higher in Europe.

We can also add the fact that prices in Europe are rounded to reach psychological price points like “.99”.

All of this explains the prices set outside the US, and it’s the same for all companies and all products — from a simple washing machine to a game console.

Can't wait to pre-order that bad boy. Already got money set aside. Will be tuning into GamesCom and eager to see!

@fatpunkslim some simple research would show why this is the case when it comes to pricing and exchange rates. Also, a little bit of research would also show why the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S cost more now than they did when they launched in 2020. Logistics story short, economical instability, tariffs and inflation have lead to the current situation we're in now. Unfortunately people would rather spout out nonsense like "Xbox abandoned Europe" than actually do the research to see what's really going on. Good on you for sharing your findings, happy gaming ✌️

But I also think there are a lot of people who just love to complain and criticize Xbox unfairly. It's either bitter individuals or fans of the other brand who have nothing better to do than come here and bash Xbox.
