Did ASUS ever fix the hardware issues that kept melting SD cards on the previous Ally?

Rumors aren’t just an “other side” issue. That perspective is ironically maladaptive considering that person was posting about mental health. Decrying every issue or bad situation as fake news isn’t healthy either, and there’s plenty of that on this site as well.

The best thing to do is tune out the doomer Ponies, paranoid Xbots, and OCD Nintendrones and just play games.

I like beating games on multiple platforms, like F.E.A.R. 1 & 2 on Series X and PS3, Inside and Limbo on Switch and PS4, and Control on PS4 and PS5

I remember being excited about this after I got my first ever Xbox (the Series X). I thought it was going to be like Journey or Abzû

Even the Reddit posts said they were from “alleged staff,” which made me chuckle. Crazy how these things can blow up, but also kind of damning how they can seem plausible.

The “base” controller feels like crap with that awful textured plastic and grindy analog sticks. Elite is almost perfect except for the fragile bumpers and rubber grips that really irritate my palms. The sticks at maximum tension feel great and the domed cap is perfect for aiming!

That was the most corporate non-answer possible. But anyway, if they could make the bumpers more durable and only have rubber on the underside of the controller handles so my hands don’t sweat and burn, that would be appreciated!

@PsBoxSwitchOwner IIRC, the entire handheld PC market is 4 million or so, so a couple of million Xbox Allies would be massive

@johndoe89 I’ve had a fraction of the issues with PS5 compared to Xbox. Download speeds are consistent on every other console, so it’s on Microsoft’s server side.

Noticed this yesterday setting up my latest Series X. The games all started up fine, when they weren't missing that is. Download speeds have been awful for the longest time, though.

Semi-related, but Costco announced that they will no longer be selling Xbox consoles. I was curious to see if that included these new handhelds, as well.

Dusk is fantastic, Faith is not too far behind. Haven't heard of the other two. Hopefully they all do well and Gloomwood gets a console release.

@Sol4ris I don't feel victimized by them, so obviously I'm a zealot! Great example of critical thinking. I chose PlayStation because of JRPGs, not the "exclusives" that people on PushSquare obsess over.

@AverageJoseph Which is hearsay made to rile up the userbase (seems it massively succeeded). Hearsay is technically still evidence, though the weakest kind.

@Valhura There's no evidence there was ever an exclusivity deal. August 20th is Sun Wukong's birthday, also the day the game was first announced and later first released.

@Millionski I'm don't care about performance enough to invest hundreds of extra dollars and re-buy games. I'm fully aware of and accept console limitations, and I'm far from some suffering console peasant who needs saved by enlightened PCMR types. Console ecosystems work perfectly for me, and I'd rather invest time and money in platforms I enjoy instead of PC.

I'd also say that $180 compared to $800-900 does count as a night-and-day difference. PC building has never been more expensive in the US thanks to tariffs and corporate greed. Not to mention having to re-buy games...

@Millionski I got my PS5 Pro for $180 cash after trade and promotions. Any PC setup closer to that?

@Millionski Entry-level prebuilts are still between $1200-1500 USD with the most basic/cheapest components. Even if the next next-gen consoles are $700 base, I'm paying less than half of that thanks to trade-ins.

Hopefully this 'optimized' version of Windows 11 for 'gaming' 'performance' doesn't include the 'bug' that's 'killing' 'SSDs' on 'PC.'

Guess that means no more weekly Cynthia rerelease bundles...

Condemned, the first Xbox game I ever beat! And is GTA IV still unbeatable due to the framerate, or did people find a way around that by now?

I'm neither a Nintendo fanboy nor a kid and I'm loving Switch 2. Beyond the first-party stuff, there are tons of games that don't make it to PlayStation or Xbox including two of my favorite genres (JRPGs and visual novels). Oh, and it's half the price of the Ally X and won't melt my SD card.

Converted to USD is $692.73 and $1,039.68, respectively. Even with a random $100 discount, that's quite high...

@Sol4ris Okay, but what's happening now is the two other companies have raised their prices even higher. But that's okay because of something that might happen in the future.

Morrowind hasn't been on sale in forever, it seems! $10 is pretty okay, though, considering the physical copy goes for $15-20

@Valhura The entire handheld PC market is around 4 million units. The ROG Xbox attaining such a sizeable share is very optimistic.

Problem they run into is being too PC for console crowd while also too console for the PC crowd. Conversion is always the issue with new iterative hardware.

It benefits the most from massively newer technology. The original Switch was 2015 tablet hardware, Switch 2 is much more capable. Having triple the RAM certainly doesn't hurt, either!

I was wrong about Quantum Break 2 and adding all of the Square 360 exclusives to backwards compatibility.

It's like everyone forget that the actual first-party handheld was shelved. These are just existing products with Xbox branding.

Out of my 115 console games, I think less than 10 are Play Anywhere. Definitely not worth it in my case.

The regular Ally costs $649.99 and the Ally X is $899.99. Don't see the Xbox-branded ones being any cheaper.
