Xbox Exec Questioned About Elite Series 3 Controller, Offers Slight Tease For The Future

Depending on the price, I might just pick up the next Elite. I've never had a premium controller before.

I imagine that there will be a new controller for the next Xbox, and I imagine that the Elite 3 will be the premium version of that controller.

Although in my opinion they achieved perfection with the Xbox One controller, which for me is the best “traditional” controller out there, I think it's already perfect in terms of ergonomics and possibilities, at least for shooters and the most common genres.

The new features being added to modern controllers (back buttons, share button, touch surfaces, LED lights, etc.) detract more than they add, increasing weight and energy consumption, but nothing I consider truly useful.

That was the most corporate non-answer possible. But anyway, if they could make the bumpers more durable and only have rubber on the underside of the controller handles so my hands don’t sweat and burn, that would be appreciated!

Soo many cheaper options that are outperforming the Elite 2 right now. Gamesir G7 Pro being one of them as well as the Blitz 2

I bought the elite 2 version and I'm finding it heavy plus doesn't help with my arthritis when playing. Possibly go back to the original

I'd have to wait a year or so after launch to see what the reviews are... wasn't the Elite 2 the worst one for defects?

I want whatever new standard controller they make to be hall effect sticks at a minimum for stick drift. I'll get my kids to make me one in the design lab as a gift once they do.

still using the xbox360 controller to this day. have no desire for their modern fragile, flimsy, overly angular & geometric controllers with the worst drifting gamings ever seen.

By this point I don't even care anymore, feels like the Series X just doesn't really matter anymore.

I would recommend the Elite controllers, to be honest. Even though they’re extremely expensive, for my use case (avoiding blisters from clicking the analog sticks, and completely remapping the controller so that older games are still accessible to me) it works wonderfully, and it was far less expensive than trying to make an adaptive controller work for my needs.

My two favorite features are the button mapping profiles, and the adjustable trigger stops, which I mostly use at their shortest and longest.

I think the Elite 3 should wait until the next console. I got an Elite 2 shortly after getting my series X, and as this was my first Xbox I hadn't realised it wasn't designed with the Series consoles in mind.

It's only a little thing but I don't like there not being a share / screen capture button like on the standard controller. The Elite 3 shouldn't release before the next console if it'll be missing any button or feature that has.

I bought an Elite 2 over 4 years ago, i have used it less than 10 hours since new (prefer the Scuf). I have never charged it up since buying it, grabbed it the other day for Borderlands and was amazed the battery life bar on the Xbox was still full, very impressive.

@AccessibleDaydream Thanks for taking the time with me there I've always held off on them because I used to believe that they were for (mostly) very serious gamers that play e-sports and such, or casual players that blast CoD all week haha. However, I've recently learned that they're actually pretty amazing for even general use. I do hear that they don't last long though?

So tired of these useless MS execs, constantly flapping their lips, but when they are not openly lying they are giving non answers. Either shut the hell up or give actual information.

@Krzzystuff Hall effect sticks are terrible. Theirs a newer tech that MS have been working on thats a cross between hall effect and the usual potentiometers. I wanted a hall effect controller and got one and it was in no way as good as the elite series 2.

Elite series 2 controller is the best controller ever made. Why improve on perfection? Ive had mine since 2019 and its still going strong. If it true about the new stick technology MS have been working on amd its in the series 3 then i will get it but other then that its not worth the upgrade especially sering as it will most likely be a £200 controller. The series 2 was expensive at first but its been really affordable for the last 3 years.

I've been through a bunch of Elite Series 2s. I've had several be broken right out of the box with one or more face buttons that doesn't properly register a press, and I've had several develop faults over time, typically with LB or RB. I've owned at least one console in every generation and before the Xbox One came out I'd only ever replaced one controller because it was faulty.

When they do work, they're great. I couldn't go back to a controller without paddles now.

Features I would like to see in an Elite Series 3: -

Better build quality, particularly the sticks and buttons.

A physical switch that allows you to sync it to 2 different devices at once.

The features of the Stereo Headset Adapter built-in. Some controllers from other brands have this.

Better haptics, as well as gyro controls.

The ability to share controller mappings with friends would be good.

I don't care about gimmicky stuff such as LED lights, little OLED screens, being able to sync it to my phone and what not. It just pushes the price up for no benefit when it comes to gaming, and sometimes eats into the battery life.

In an ideal world they'd focus heavily on repairability, for example, the microswitches that are under LB and RB don't even cost a buck each, but it's not a simple job to replace them. Likewise replacing a faulty analogue stick is cheap in terms of buying the parts, but not easy for the majority of gamers to do at home.
