Switch 2 'Closer To Xbox Series S' Than Last-Gen Consoles, Says Ninja Gaiden Dev

Nintendo's Switch 2 console is now out in the wild, and here at PX HQ we're certainly intrigued to see how much Microsoft goes on to support the system. The good news for Xbox's studios is that the device is of course a lot more powerful than its predecessor, with Ninja Gaiden dev Koei Tecmo comparing it to the Series S in a new interview.

As the team prepares to release 'Wild Hearts S' for the hybrid system, it's touched on how Switch 2 compares to other consoles on the market. In short, the KT rep says the device is "closer to Xbox Series S" than last-gen consoles such as the PS4 & Xbox One.

Here's their full answer when asked which system Switch 2 is closer to:

"There are a lot of characteristics when it comes to raw computing power so it's difficult to generalize, but I think it can be thought as closer to the Series S."

As we mentioned up at the top, this assessment should be good news for us potentially seeing more Xbox games move to Switch 2, with Series S still very much being supported by Microsoft. We know that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 is launching on the Nintendo console next month, with the Activision team also committed to getting Call of Duty on the system as well. Time will tell what else moves over from Xbox Game Studios in the coming years.

Anyway, we sort of knew all of this anyway - but it's nice to see a developer come out and reassure us that the Switch 2 is at least comparable to Xbox Series S in terms of compute power. Maybe, just maybe, Microsoft's plan to release the less-powerful system in 2020 will turn out to be a shrewd move for future development as well.
