I've been eyeing up Dragon Quest XI since it released but didn't even finish the demo. The only JRPGs I've played start to finish are Final Fantasy VIII and Chrono Trigger. (+Pokemon Blue and Ruby but I don't think they count). Not sure why the two I played worked for me where others didn't.
That's a great price to get in on next-gen. But there are so few next-gen only games I don't see the worth in upgrading my Xbox One S just yet. If you've not got an Xbox though this deal is a no brainer.
@bpomber No way. It's what people buy when they see no reason to spend more on the Series X. It's nearly 2023 and no Xbox exclusives have made the Series X a compelling option.
Most of these games aren't really role-playing games. An RPG needs, a degree of choice and decision making which shapes the story, and for those choices to be informed by a characters attributes. Without that you aren't really playing a role.
I would prefer a new game that tries to evoke the atmosphere of the old games. Quiet, isolated locales and a rare enemy encounter. Minimal character drama. More about exploring mysterious forgotten places.
1 and 2 are enduring classics, fresh and original when released. All of the other games have been a retread of the first two’s iconography atmosphere and stories. Voting 2.
Not sure how 343 went from Halo 4 and 5’s polished campaigns and meaty multiplayer offerings to this. Those games weren’t quite to my tastes but they were of high quality at release.
After 10 years, Halo 4 is still 343's best effort. The melodrama between UNSC side-characters was a misstep, but the core story of Chief losing Cortana worked well. The Didact was a great villain too. I prefer the original style of writing, sound and visuals but Halo 4 certainly had it's own identity in those departments. An emphasis on the expanded lore was also a clear narrative direction. They should have maintained course with a sequel that continued to explore the expanded lore with the same writer, composer and director.
I would love to see more of The Evil Within and Prey. Something new would be even better. But I don't want them to announce things that are more than a year out.
@Carck Developers don’t sign NDAs and are free to express their opinions on their work and that’s a good thing. Co-workers are free to tweet some positive comments.
They have made a multiplayer game that caters to micro-transactions more than a creating a compelling, atmospheric world. There's nothing wrong with micro-transaction filled multiplayer games but they are typically free to play for that very reason. The price is a joke.
I was hoping this would be Black Flag 2 by another name, allowing the pirate game to shine without being beholden to the AC franchise. I think that's what everyone was expecting after the initial delay.
343 need to abandon the open world formula and the one take cinematic. So much personality and artistry has been lost due to these design decisions.
Either make a Halo/Breath of the Wild that’s full of environment storytelling, diverse locales and rich atmosphere, or carry on with linear missions. Infinite is such a crummy half step.
I liked it when you could storm ahead and trigger checkpoints which teleported the other player to you. If you let them pull ahead you’d be forever shuffled about until they slow down.
I hope they don't increase the grind for those that enjoy unlocking things through gameplay. I'm super happy with the state of the MCC it's so much fun to jump between those games.
For comparison, Reach launched with a memorable and repayable campaign + co-op, a robust multiplayer offering, firefight, theatre and forge. This was just 3 years after the release of Halo 3 and a few months after the last dlc pack for Halo 3. Plus, ODST came out the year before.
Halo has steadily regressed under 343. They almost had it with Halo 4... what the hell happened?
As someone who returns to play sonic games every so often, I think Sonic games have always been style over substance. They have frustrating gameplay, flawed at its core, which I choose to put up with because the visuals, music, and overall charm are so good.
I think it's really amazing work. There will always be demand for more titles because people want full backwards compatibility and don't want to keep old consoles around.
Another underwhelming show from Xbox. Every year is a major let down. Where was Fable? Banjo? Hellblade? Perfect Dark? Gears? Avowed? The ink isn’t dry on the Kojima deal, not even a working title. The best announcement was Persona 3&4 and that’s not till 2023.
@Fishticon I don’t think that machine would sell very well when the Series S has next-gen, loads of back-compat and cloud gaming covered for an entry level price .
I've stopped playing after 25 hours. Just not really feeling the setting or story elements and the core gameplay is a step backwards from BloodBorne and Sekiro.

Re: Resident Evil Village Gold Edition Now Has A Free Demo On Xbox
Played the third person demo and wasn’t blown away. Lots to like but I’d rather replay 4 or 2make or the original RE instead.

Re: Sea Of Thieves Season Seven Is (Mostly) Going Down A Treat So Far
@Trmn8r Yeah very common. I think it developed like this:
"Did they like the food I cooked?"
"Yes, it's going down well." - (root phrase, no idea of origin, possibly all food related in origin)
Something being "a treat" meaning "good" (self explanatory)
Which leads us to "It's going down a treat."
Re: Soapbox: Forza Horizon Is Spinning Its Wheels, So Let's Bring Back The Best Racer On Xbox
I would love a PGR 5 with new and classic tracks and that distinct PGR style, Cool and Fast.

Re: Pick One: Which Of These Upcoming Game Pass Launches Are You Most Excited About?
Forza Motorsport - I've not played a Forza game since FM3.
Grounded - Loved Psychonauts 2. Looking forward to the charm of Grounded.
Hollow Knight: Silksong - First was a classic so no-brainer.
