Now, a new Quake (if they ever do that)? Go ahead, make that exclusive, why not. Sure, Quake 4 was an Xbox 360 console exclusive if I am recalling correctly.
Good, so presumably a hypothetical Xbox handheld would not have the same stringent Home Xbox requirements that we are currently familiar with. That was my biggest concern with such a handheld. My second biggest concern is that its specs exactly match those of a pre-existing Xbox home console (ideally Series S, but if it must be Xbox One X then so be it), as Xbox going for a third console with again different specifications is not what I think it needs right now, but maybe I'm overthinking that.
On one hand, like it or not, he's right. However, I think the style of games like Hi-Fi Rush is something that Xbox really needed for putting more eyes on the platform. Tango could have acted as a strong loss leader for the platform, possibly providing stronger long term gain. The only issue with that is that focusing on long term gain inherently comes with greater risks, particularly with strategies such as loss leaders, so just looking at making a quick buck is often, sadly, the safer bet. Regardless, I think that using Tango as a loss leader is a bet that Xbox should have made.
Oh lord yes, I was skeptical when I initially heard the premise through leaks, but this looks up to the usual Doom standard with a new really cool lick of paint.
I didn't expect stop motion at all, very interesting choice! Gameplay didn't look mindblowing or super novel, but it definitely looked solid. Oh, and if that music was in-game music and it wasn't just being played over the gameplay, I LOVED IT and I would buy it just for more of that vibe.
This looks brilliant. Whatever I expected it to look like, it wasn't this, and I mean that in a really good way, as this stood out for me quite a bit! Big fan of the original game, so I have high hopes for this!
I am monumentally excited for this. One of the highlights of the showcase for me. The moment I saw "GSC Game World" right at the beginning of the footage, I just cracked a smile.
When I saw Rebellion's name and the trailer started and we saw those soldier looking guys, I was thinking it was the world premiere of Sniper Elite 6... until I then seconds later saw the mechsuit thing haha
I was hoping that the fabled Xbox handheld would be at least teased, but still, a 2TB Series X with a tacky design (and I mean that as a compliment, I love tacky designs like that) is something I might wave my money at down the line.
That was unbelievably solid. Even knowing some games were coming, what was shown blew me away. One or two things I was kiiiiind of hoping for that did not show up, but after a showcase like that, I have no right to complain. Easy A.
It was fine. Some cool stuff in there for sure, but not much that really wowed me. Some of my favourite stuff included Alan Wake 2 DLC and physical release (I knew it lol), Unknown 9: Awakening (was hoping to get a closer look at this since I forgot all about it, well there was my look at it), and the closer looks at the new Fatal Fury and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.
platform exclusive bonus extended prologue animations with never-before-seen deleted scenes, I am hearing?
Searches up said animations and deleted scenes on YouTube after launch Not anymore! In all seriousness, it's pretty funny to make something platform exclusive which can be experienced in pretty much its fullest quality by just watching a YouTube video. Even a platform exclusive costume or something would at least to some extent need to be experienced as part of the gameplay to be fully enjoyed, but a cutscene is something I can just watch on the internet later and lose pretty much nothing! I dunno, maybe I just need to get with the times or something
Watching it after I get home from work on Sunday, pretending that I am tuning in live haha! Then I'll drop over here to catch up on the discussions regarding the showcase.
@Banjo- Absolutely, yes. Especially where his original article is paywalled and was published right before the showcase, it comes across as very clickbaity to me. Gotta love the journalistic integrity on display.
I'll believe it when I see it. The "they're seriously remastering Halo 1 again" part and the "they're seriously putting their main mascot onto a rival console" part.
Regardless of if this is true or not (but especially so if it is true), it genuinely impresses me how talented Microsoft is at consistently further damaging their brands. They make making themselves look bad into an art, it's honestly kind of impressive.
Nice! With the first game now on PlayStation, that means that all major platforms now have both games. I sincerely hope that this is a sign that Square Enix is dead serious about being mostly multiplatform going forward.
...Soooooooo, Square Enix, any chance that Xbox and PlayStation can get Triangle Strategy brought over?
Based on applying absolutely zero logic, I don't think it will be at this showcase. However, it does have to show up eventually, and one of these showcases WILL eventually be the one at which it finally reappears, so we also have to tone down our skepticism of its appearance at least at some point.
Picked up Massive Chalice for a great deal! I'll buy virtually anything that Double Fine develops, so the moment I saw it on sale I jumped on it. I also totally forgot that that game is an Xbox One console exclusive, interestingly enough.
If what the handheld is is that they somehow managed to compress a Series S into a handheld form factor while keeping the price at least somewhat reasonable, I would 100% buy one. I don't play many digital games, but it would be a really cool way to experience the digital only library that I currently have!
Haha, again? Funny enough, I like it when it changes all the time. It makes Series X games look hideous on my shelf all next to each other, but that also just kind of adds to the character of the console to me! I'll admit, I preferred the last one, but I think this is pretty slick too. On the positive from this, Microsoft at least still cares about physical juuuuuust enough that they care about how the games are presented at retail. Although that being said, I do still firmly believe that this is going to be the last Xbox console with physical releases, but I'm also not very smart so that could also be completely wrong.
@BacklogBrad Yeah I remember reading somewhere else that the interview from which the 25% claim was taken was not translated very well, and that this claim was therefore inaccurate. I was going to politely bring that up in the same Push Square article that you are referring to, buuuuuut I wasn't so sure if that would go over well with our friends over there haha
Not surprised that this is what the list looks like, but it is still interesting to actually see it. Nice that Xbox is getting games like Unicorn Overlord and Neptunia at all, it definitely helps Japanese Xbox fans get to play more of what they like on their preferred platform.
Looks cool! I'm a bit of a sucker for open world racing games, great time wasters. Just throw on some music and drive around for a bit, it's honestly pretty relaxing in a weird way. Just wish it didn't have an always online requirement though (RIP The Crew)...
Didn't think this would be getting an Xbox version initially, but last time I thought about this remake was before Square Enix emphasized further support for Xbox, and then months later emphasized a strong multi platform push in general. Nice! While admittedly I've grown tired of this "HD-2D" style, I know many really love it and Dragon Quest 3 is a brilliant game, so it's great that more people get to play it now.
So my answer is completely cheating, but: -Least reliable: Original Xbox, ONLY because my hard drive gave out and I had to do the good old Raspberry Pi EEPROM stuff to get another one in there, as I did not have my Xbox modded before the hard drive failure. Again this is cheating, as it very obviously was going to do that eventually, as my specific motherboard config is like 20 years old now. -"Middle" reliable: Xbox One X, as I had to reapply thermal paste to it (apparently bad thermal paste is a common issue on these bad boys). At least before I did that, lighter games were still completely playable. -Most reliable: Xbox 360 S. I have not had a single issue with it at all. That's impressive, as recently I have been super cursed and virtually all of the consoles I own (which is more than a few) have run into issues all around the same time somehow, but this beast has caused me no trouble at all!
A buddy of mine bought a copy late last year and we tried it out as a joke. Yes, it is as bad as the reviewers say... but that makes it absolutely hilarious to play. If you are playing seriously you'll hate it, but I know this is a bit awful to say but if you go in knowing how comically bad it is, it is hugely entertaining to witness the trainwreck and laugh at the countless bugs!
If you can ever find it for (very) cheap, consider picking it up, having over a friend or two, and just laugh at it. Peak unintentional comedy!
Not really a reveal, but I am still very curious about what People Can Fly is working on with Project Maverick or whatever it is called. We are already aware that it is an Xbox IP, so I am curious what they are working on. Could be another Gears of War spinoff as we've seen from them before, but maybe we could see yet another attempt at Crackdown, or one of Xbox's FPS franchises such as Wolfenstein while MachineGames is busy or possibly Quake or something. Fingers crossed we get even the slightest bit of info about it at the showcase (even though realistically I wouldn't bet on it)
I notice that the pictures show that the game only says "Xbox One" on the cover, and the LRG listing particularly specifies "Xbox One". Normally Smart Delivery games also list Series X as one of the platforms on the case, so will this not support Smart Delivery? If so, a bit of a strange move to have a physical PS5 version but not technically have a physical version for the 9th generation Xbox console, but opting to support both 8th gen consoles. I'm not trying to incite any console warrior arguments or anything, it's just a small interesting detail that I noticed.
@Banjo- For sure. I did like some of the Sony's first party PS4 games from the console's early years like Infamous Second Son and Killzone Shadow Fall, but once they started doing "cinematic third person character action game #9", I lost a lot of interest, which is a shame as I love so much of their PS1-3 output.
And yes, many of us gamers do love our double standards. More than anything it's a shame that we love to come to conclusions before we try things, as I can name many times I went into a game expecting nothing and came out loving it, and I would not have gotten that experience if I just immediately assumed that the game sucks from my first impressions!
This is about what I was expecting, honestly - one heck of a spectacle, but lacking a bit in the gameplay. It seemed it would be that way ever since all the marketing emphasized the spectacle of it all, but from what I saw seldom discussed the gameplay.
Same issue I have with some of Sony's exclusives like new GoW and Horizon, after having played those for a bit - gameplay really didn't do much for me, but I'll admit the spectacle was there. Just like those, I'll at least give this one a shot, and just like those, I expect around a 7/10 score, with the conclusion of: "man, this would have made for an amazing movie".
But sincerely though, huge congrats to Ninja Theory for making such a stunning experience, if only just from the spectacle of it all! It's insane that video games as a medium have come this far for this level of graphics and sound design to be possible!
@Lup Yeah I knew it was coming, but had no idea that the release date was so soon! Very pleasant surprise, I never got a chance to play the System Shock games, but since they are apparently legendary and Nightdive has worked their magic on them, this is definitely the best time to jump in! I heard that they are also going to be doing the sequel as well, so you bet I'm hyped for that
So my first console was the original Xbox, but funny enough that was actually only a few years ago that I got it. I used to be very brand loyal to Nintendo, then Sony, then both, and now I just buy all of the consoles once I realized that Xbox is actually pretty darn cool, regardless of how long it takes me to get the money to do so.
So what tempted me to pick up my first Xbox, an OG, was biting the bullet and deciding that I finally want to try out an Xbox console, and boy was I pleasantly surprised. The OG Xbox is easily my favourite of the bunch, I love that thing. What keeps me buying Xboxs is of course the fact that I buy every console, but if we ignore that, it's console exclusives, some games that run a bit better on Xbox (not all, but some, like in any console generation), some features here and there. Not very specific I know, but there really is a lot to like about the Xbox consoles. I was unbelievably surprised by how much I ended up really like the Xbox One X once I picked that up!
An offline mode, eh? Maybe I'll give it a try at some point in the future then. Yes, it's probably kind of bad, but I have a guilty pleasure of playing bad games so that might not even matter.
Anybody ever play PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale? One of the worst games I've ever played, and yet every now and then I go back to it as a joke, or when friends are over so we can laugh at how bad it is together. If Redfall is anything like that for me and I can find it dirt cheap, maybe it will be worth it!
Good. This doesn't affect me because I don't play COD nor do I have Game Pass, but if you say all first party games launch day 1 on Game Pass, you can't just back down from that. They've made their commitment, so they better stick to it.
I think it's Crash, if it's an indication of anything new at all. The tiki mask just screams Crash to me, and perhaps the purple has to do somewhat with the theming of the next game? Or perhaps, even a crossover (and hopefully better than that one on the GBA which may or may not be a guilty pleasure of mine)!
As for your question, I am a HUGE Spyro fan, and my PS3 is always hooked up and the Spyro trilogy for PS1 is always sitting just a meter or two away. I 100% the trilogy all over again usually about once a year, they're some of my favourite 3D platformers of all time (alongside Sly Cooper 1 and Super Mario Galaxy). And yet, as confident as I am in Toys for Bob, I am slightly anxious that their (or anybody's) take on a new Spyro game wouldn't be able to do the original trilogy justice, so part of me just wants to let the series rest and leave it where it is.
Whoa mama, that's a lot of partners, and more to be announced too! This will be fun.
Realistically, Xbox probably won't announce anything crazy here, as that will be saved for their own showcase. Chances are they'll probably show off footage of some upcoming games or something, like more Avowed footage, maybe some Flight Sim '24 footage, stuff like that.
Huh, neat. I'll say that I'm particularly impressed by Activision opening up a new studio that is explicitly not working on anything Call of Duty related. Which, of course, likely means that in 5 years or so they will be sent down into the COD mines with the rest of them. Funny how that happens.
Although, that statement made about them is a very bold claim. Not to be too skeptical of the surely talented people who are currently working there, but I will believe such statements once I hear that "so-and-so big name is now working at Elsewhere Entertainment!", or if not that, until I catch a glimpse of what exactly they are working on.
Short term gain in place of long term ambitions. Yes, a game like Grounded or Pentiment would not have been console sellers by themselves, if they make up part of a list of like 50 great games that you can't play on PS or Nintendo, then that makes Xbox much more tempting, when people will feel like they are missing out on so many interesting exclusives by not picking up a Series X/S. And of course, more Xbox gamers means more Game Pass subs, as well as more people buying games on the Xbox store and therefore giving Microsoft that sweet sweet 30% cut (at least I believe it's a 30% cut that they get?).
Yeah sending over some first party games will get you a few extra bucks, in the case of Sea of Thieves probably quite a bit of money quite frankly, but now your platform is less attractive, which to me seems to run contrary to Microsoft's ambition of maximizing their number of Game Pass subscribers. And again, never underestimate the power of that 30% cut from digital purchases, that's where a lot of the money really comes from.
Now, of course, these are all rumours. We don't know if this is true or not, and if it is true, it is still possible that they could just decide against doing it. But it was true at least that one time, and I'd like to think that my point still stands with respect to that time.
I would have to personally blame this on poor marketing first and foremost. Sony has always been pretty good at marketing (just... forget about those early PS3 ads; that baby one still haunts me every night), while it seems like Microsoft hasn't even been trying. I have seen plenty of ads for the PS5 itself, its accessories, and its first party games. For Xbox I recall seeing Redfall and Starfield ads, although I'm sure that there were a few more which I missed. Marketing is truly important, as it can be crucial for cementing your brand/product into the current cultural zeitgeist. Sony understands this.
Oh, and some questionable decisions along the way haven't helped things. Not like Sony hasn't had controversies, but I swear that there's a new one with Xbox almost every month or two now. For people caught up on these things, that's enough to scare them away.
I honestly thought that Microsoft had a chance at competing well this generation if they played their cards right. Turns out while Sony was playing Poker at the professional level, Microsoft just learned Yu-Gi-Oh 30 minutes ago and decided that they were good to sign up for a regional tournament.

Re: Phil Spencer Explains Why DOOM: The Dark Ages Is Releasing On PS5
I do want to see Xbox keep a high quantity of big name exclusives so as to make their consoles more enticing, but I actually agree on this one. Would it really be Doom if it was just locked to one console? I swear, our current timeline would be a lot darker if we couldn't play Doom on a pregnancy test. Now, a new Quake (if they ever do that)? Go ahead, make that exclusive, why not. Sure, Quake 4 was an Xbox 360 console exclusive if I am recalling correctly.
Re: Xbox Boss Teases 'Awesome' Future In Hardware, In Response To Handheld Rumours
Good, so presumably a hypothetical Xbox handheld would not have the same stringent Home Xbox requirements that we are currently familiar with. That was my biggest concern with such a handheld. Re: Phil Spencer On Recent Studio Closures: It's About Running A 'Sustainable Business'
Re: Bethesda Announces Plans For The Final Redfall Update On Xbox & PC
An offline mode, eh? Maybe I'll give it a try at some point in the future then. Yes, it's probably kind of bad, but I have a guilty pleasure of playing bad games so that might not even matter.
Anybody ever play PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale? One of the worst games I've ever played, and yet every now and then I go back to it as a joke, or when friends are over so we can laugh at how bad it is together. If Redfall is anything like that for me and I can find it dirt cheap, maybe it will be worth it!
Re: Report: Call Of Duty 2024 Will Launch Day One On Xbox Game Pass
Good. This doesn't affect me because I don't play COD nor do I have Game Pass, but if you say all first party games launch day 1 on Game Pass, you can't just back down from that. They've made their commitment, so they better stick to it.
Re: Crash, Spyro Dev Website Replaced With Mysterious Logo
Re: Xbox Confirmed For Summer Game Fest Ahead Of Upcoming Showcase
Whoa mama, that's a lot of partners, and more to be announced too! This will be fun.
Realistically, Xbox probably won't announce anything crazy here, as that will be saved for their own showcase. Chances are they'll probably show off footage of some upcoming games or something, like more Avowed footage, maybe some Flight Sim '24 footage, stuff like that.
Re: Activision Is Opening A New Studio To Build 'Genre-Defining' Games At Microsoft
Re: Rumour: Xbox Planning To Bring More Games To PS5, Despite Some 'Unease' At Microsoft
Re: Analyst Claims PS5 Outsold Xbox Series X|S Almost 5:1 Last Quarter
