Phil is paid the big money and holds the top position. He's not responsible for every decision made by lower members of staff but he is accountable for the success of the gaming division and therefore responsible for when that division fails. I disagree with the way this has been presented but it's a good point of conversation.
@Stocksy "Recruiting remains active as it works on Star Wars Eclipse, third-party publishing, and unannounced projects."
Games announced years before release including Cyberpunk 2077, Elder Scrolls 6, Metroid Prime 4 etc use announcement trailers as recruitment marketing to introduce their vision, a pitch to recruit the best talent. "Hey we are making this star wars game, please come work for us".
It's not a sales pitch to entice people to buy a game that has yet to start any real development.
@armondo36 it's very well documented that Quantic Dream has struggled to get the right devs for this project hence the reveal. These announcements are not intended to build hype around a project from a consumer standpoint. It's an art trailer, a this is our vision requirement trailer and they are commonplace from Elder scrolls 6 to Metroid Prime 4 and so on they announce the project to begin a mass recruitment drive without the worry of having to keep what they are working on secret. They then release a press piece to manage expectations explaining the game is years away. Remote working has become the norm and studios now have the infrastructure to hire devs worldwide rather than just the local area the competition to secure the best devs is greater than ever and the best devs want to work on exciting projects. The idea that a massive Star wars IP is one of those projects. This is a new direction for QD and they need the right people. That's all this is.
@uptownsoul I would like some decent haptics on more PS5 games first before implementing it on PC. I am on board with the PC ports don't get me wrong. I am not a PC player but I have the Series X and PS5 and think exclusives should be available wherever it makes business sense. More players the better. Sony are lacking getting the 'house in order' the UI is a mess and this 'upgrade' procedure is convoluted. I wish they would dedicated a team to that 😅
@NEStalgia Warner Bros. Entertainment own the film, TV, and Games-related rights to the franchise this game is not "licensed" in that sense its based in the wizarding world of Harry potter. It's an IP they are free to exploit. However I agree that the game isn't cancelled and was more then likely announced with them believing it would be finished by now plus the new console hype was to bug to piss with the Sony PS5 announcement showcase etc.
@Savage_Joe We just don't have the information. He's arguing that if you're banned on Xbox for being abusive, you should be banned from all cross-play networks as well. How many individuals are being banned from Xbox for no reason? How long will such 'unjust' bans last? Is it possible that people are being targeted, and Xbox is banning them without a review? If so, how many are there? You're just expressing concerns based on nothing more than supposition without any of that information and more questioning. There is no such thing as a perfect system, but if there isn't a systemic issue with Xbox and the same due process is followed with Nintendo and PS, there is no issue. Your rights are unaffected because you're most likely a toxic player who has been rightfully banned. If any of the above need apply then further fixes and reviews are needed before it's implemented.
@PhileasFragg Had MS maintained the 'entertainment hub' direction of business we wouldn't be discussing the Series X at all. If you haven't already given the documentary a watch. Phil pulled Xbox as a platform from the brink of talks about closing that side of operations. The changes he made convinced the powers at be that Xbox would continue to be a success and not a 'meme' of MS.
@BrilliantBill this isn"t a dig at you. This example of how little was shown of Halo is constantly posted. The Halo Infinte success story really doesn't fit. Halo's now infamous E3 2020 campaign gameplay showing was meme'd and ridiculed. In terms of gameplay reveals it's one of the worse possible examples. They showed 5 minutes of the game to absolute doom and gloom headlines, Yes, a year's delay wait made all the difference. However, let's hope Starfield does not follow in the footsteps of "Halo". Show some terrible gameplay and then be forced to delay the game in the most public way.
@Ile delays have affected the whole gaming industry and the vast majority of major releases. It's not an odd take nor out of this world that this game gets pushed out. It's a massive project and we've seen next to nothing. Using Halo as an example? A game that was delayed a whole year! There is every chance this game gets delayed. I hope not but we will see.
I love concept art. Especially environmental art generally after the game is released. Love to see the direction that was conceptualised vs the finished product. God of War 2018 had some beautiful art. Starfield is set for 2022 and I have no idea what the game is other than the setting? What can the player do? Beyond so CG settings and concept, We have seen zero gameplay and I am sure MS is going to have a huge E3 blowout but I am becoming more uneasy with this making 2022 especially since the pandemic is going nowhere.
@GuyinPA75 developers are happy to offset expenses by launching on game pass, and they frequently sign 6- to 12-month agreements with Microsoft. The fact that there is so many doing so that you didn't get to play everything is not a drawback. Indie devs, are out there trying to make a livelihood, they will have to sell their games outside of the game pass ecosystem at some time. If you miss a game, they are constantly adding new ones to the Game Pass.
@Justifier absolutely and using an engine that's not fit for purpose and you have little confidence in will never produce a great end product. Bioware needs this next title to be at least decent or EA will likely switch things up yet again. I hope this next one is an absolute banger tho.
This should read as NFT's "delayed" for Stalker 2. Once they release the game and the sales start to tail off they will no doubt introduce it. The NFT's introduced by the likes of Ubisoft etc will have calmed the water by then. People are only outraged for a short while. COD and Fifa dominate sales charts for that reason, everyone complains yet people still buy them yearly. This is not a consumer centred move.
I don't believe this demo was running on series X hardware. That would have been mentioned by now. Excited for the game and liked the first game. If the game ends up looking the bees knees which I have no doubt it will be close then great but I am more interested in the "gameplay" change up. Not a massive fan of long QTE sequences which this trailer hints at.
@BlueOcean HZD: FW is confirmed and GOW:R more the likely being both cross gen have 60fps modes on the PS5. In the same way as the quality mode and performance mode exists on FH:5. Halo Infinite is 30 on the base consoles much like the PS exclusives will be 30 on the PS4. Halo adds the option performance option of 120fps for the enthusiast and no separate quality option mode at 30fps.
Consider what the Halo series might have been if Bungie had been in charge? What does that look like, nobody knows, since there are far too many variables that influence the outcome of a game. A group of developers can't make decisions without the approval of the publisher footing the bill. Bungie is now largely self-sufficient, destiny has been a huge success but like any business, it still needs to make a profit and Bungie are not free to "creatively express" without first addressing the F2P drive add on sales elephant in the room. Business suits create and direct franchises, and then the development team is given creative freedom to work within the parameters set by the "suits." One thing is for sure, a MS with Bungie is better then without. I agree it was a mistake to let them go, I expect the price to buy bungie now is beyond even MS as a profitable business model.
Fans are heavily invested in a franchise and are enthusiastic for more HALO. That doesn't excuse this type of behaviour. The multiplayer is entirely free-to-play, albeit with a significant amount of "bought content." The multiplayer is technically in beta. Some members in the gaming community tend to be incapable of providing constructive criticism or even simply expressing displeasure in a manner that isn't "I'm going to kill your family" threats. I believe it is unhealthy to directly approach and participate with certain members of communities like this Reddit site; they appear to be as repulsive as the Last of Us 2 gang.
So they were able to fix all of these bugs just a few weeks after the game was released. It's almost as if the games weren't even close to being ready for release, but they have rushed out the door anyway? How did this become the exception rather than the rule? Developers and publishers have always had to meet tight schedules, and everyone is dealing with the effects of the pandemic. Whilst many titles have been pushed back into a better window. Some publishers appear to believe that people will buy the game in whatever condition so release anyway and hope to fix the game in the long run. If not move on to the next yearly instalment. This practice will only get worse until we financially punish them by refusing to buy the game until it is in a playable state.
@gollumb82 It's only natural that customers will be overwhelmed and frustrated if you hype a product, make false promises, and deliver on half of what you claimed. CDPR is not a victim or a casualty. They purposefully invented this storey to increase profits despite the fact that the game was unfinished and broken. Will such approaches make your game more scrutinised and harshly judged? Yes, of course. While I respect your point. Many detractors brought the game. Many claim that "my playthrough was fantastic, what's the problem" yet this ignores the numerous unplayable versions of the game that have been chronicled to death. I was fortunate enough to have a PS5 and had preordered the game. In the first two hours, I, like many others, suffered crashes and game-breaking problems. I really want this next-gen version to be fantastic, and I'm hoping they can make it happen. The CDPR board, on the other hand, is the villain, attempting to derail what the development team had hoped to accomplish. They chose money over reputation on the day they decided to release in such a shattered state. You can't have "respect" from the community while selling 30 million copies of a broken game.
@gollumb82 “ We believe that in the long run Cyberpunk 2077 will be perceived as a very good game”…. The general consensus is that this game is not "very good." This is something they aspire to change. It's not a case of one person nitpicking and labelling someone sad because they noticed some of the game's major problems, which even the devs confess they failed to deliver on and wanted to "make the game right." It's fine if you liked the end product. CDPR failed to deliver and deceived people with deceptive business methods. Both are correct; nevertheless, saying something like "I think it's sad" will not change the reality of that narrative.
In response to some of the comments that call Fortnite, the kingpin of in-game cosmetics, and Warzone's pay-to-win system "worse," That isn't to say that everyone who follows suit to a lesser extent is anyway superior. Halo is free-to-play not for the sake of the players, but because cosmetics bring in significantly more money than a $60 full-fledged game. Children and teenagers are the primary users of MTX transactions. Yes, most adults are capable of making wise decisions and abstaining. This technique has been called into question all throughout the world. It's predatory and profit-driven. Some people have rose-tinted glasses on because they openly criticise other franchises, but because it's "Halo," they get a pass. Even if you don't have a problem with it, it doesn't negate the larger discussion about ethical business practice.
In Japan, PlayStation sales have declined, nevertheless, the PS3 sold 10,469,971 units as of 2017 and the PS4 sold 9,388,229 units as of October 2021. The data from September 9th, 2021 places PS5 sales at 1,012,656 units, outselling the Series X by more than ten to one. This is not a close race, and the data does not indicate that it will become so this generation. Sony may not be king in Japan but they will not be succeeded by MS anytime soon.
As many people complain about the "beta" there are just as many that defend its "beta" status as some kind of state that will mean everything will be magically fixed in one month till release. I used to buy Madden day one. No more will give this ago with GP. Zero chance of me actually purchasing the game. These titles seem to change very little and in some cases get worse year on year.
@Oval_Griffin Why 1800p? Surely it depends on the genre and title? Some games are why more demanding then others. @The_New_Butler I agree the messaging has been dishonest from Sony. The SSD is fantastic in Spiderman: MM which is cross gen, Demon Souls, Returnal & R&C Rift apart this week so the future is great. Native PS5 titles are smaller thanks to the compression including Third-party titles. Sony's communication has been diabolical but as an owner of both I am more then happy with the SSD.
