Various eagle-eyed Formula One fans spotted a couple of months ago that the upcoming F1 2021 was advertising a 120fps option on the Xbox Store, and now Codemasters has confirmed that will be the case for Xbox Series X.
In an interview with GamingBolt, game director Lee Mather highlighted that the racer will have two performance modes on Xbox Series X - 4K at 60fps or 1440p at 120fps - while the Xbox Series S will be limited to 1080p at 60fps.
It's a shame that the Xbox Series S doesn't get the 120 frames per-second benefit as well, but for those on Series X with a compatible 120hz display, the extra frames should really make a noticeable difference out on the track.
F1 2021 will mark the first game in the series to be published by EA following the company's acquisition of Codemasters earlier this year, and is available to pre-order now on the Microsoft Store ahead of its release on July 16.

Developers should target 1800p at 120fps as a standard (for 120fps modes), this generation.
@Oval_Griffin Why 1800p? Surely it depends on the genre and title? Some games are why more demanding then others. The decision made to have this title run at 1440p at 120Hz was mostly likely the highest they could set without lowering the settings to unacceptable levels whilst maintaining the most consistent frame rate.
@Oval_Griffin Definitely no need for native 4K (unless the game can handle it) 1440p - 1800p with temporal injection or similar tech looks almost identical in motion to all but the most critical eyes.
As a Series-S owner (first Xbox after 25 years of Playstation) I really don't mind. I bought the Series S because I have a really nice 1080p TV that doesn't need to be replaced any time soon, and as far as I'm aware there aren't (m)any 120Hz capable sets at that lower resolution. And if you do own a 4K 120Hz I'd perhaps wager that you care enough to spend the extra money for an X?
@Ptpete I have owned both a Series S and X at the same time and used them on the same 1080p screen.
Series X looks much better. It downsamples from 4k, or whatever the highest resolution of the software is on Series X for the mode the software is set to.
An easy game to notice the difference in is Dirt 5. To me Dirt 5 on Series S looked like a last-gen title. I mean it looked like a game on the base consoles, not One X and PS4 Pro.
I still recommend Series S over last-gen but only because of load times.
Series S storage is so small, if you would buy a storage expansion for Series S it's better to get a Series X in the first place (unless you can't find stock).
I would have thought that they could retain a single mode for the Series S, but bump the up and make it 1440p/60. If that was a little unstable make that the 'resolution mode' and tweak the settings down a little, then keep the 1080/60fps as a 'frame rate mode'.
@Oval_Griffin yeah I don’t doubt that re. the overall fidelity, I guess I was just referring to the lack of a120Hz mode for Series S not being that important
