It doesn’t move the needle for me. I have most of the games or can get them dirt cheap on sale. If you haven’t been gaming for a while or are new entirely, it would add value….

I am sticking with it….with this caveat…..I had my membership stacked until June 2027. I bought three more months @ $20 per month on Amazon and might buy a few more months from GameStop. After they expire I am unsure if I will continue.

My icon says it all. Mainly getting it for Mario Kart. I would still get one if Mk World wasn’t a launch title, but would wait till available in stores. Preordered first day at GameStop….

@K1LLEGAL guess I didn’t think of it that way- that as a whole, console biz hasn’t really grown…. I guess tablets and cell phones played a big role in that….

@K1LLEGAL the Switch sold 139 million as of February this year. They project another 15 million sold this year. I think it has a chance to break the record, depending on when the successor comes to market and how long they keep the old one in production.

Thankfully, there’s really not that much I am excited about as far as 2024. Realistically, I could very easily go through the next year or two and not need to buy another game. So hopefully this will be the year I slash my gaming budget and play more of what I have.

About a dozen for Xbox. And the same for Ps5. Way more than I care to admit for switch and steam deck…

I love both but prefer Forza for its accessibility and generally shorter races. GT is more responsive with controls and looks a bit sharper.

Super Mario Wonder and Diablo IV

I love Forza and it’s basically what got me into Xbox back in 2014. As a sim, it’s probably my favorite, but Gran Tourismo has its virtues too. Not in the same class, but Mario Kart is probably my favorite racing game.

I saw Forza at Best Buy on the demo and had to get an Xbox One…. That, and I was sold on the entertainment hub concept….

I don’t think the games they have given away have been that bad…. These are alright. What do u expect for $10 a month?

I predict nothing but massive disappointment…..

I still love Xbox and gamepass, but I can see why it’s not selling. It’s a bit stale rn. Nintendo’s six year old system is selling more. Between sales and PS Plus, Gamepass isn’t such a differentiator. Then several games are running better on PS5. I am excited for the second half but MSFT needs to deliver….

I have a One TB Xbox One….rarely play it but keep it bc it’s probably not worth more than $50-$75, if that. It’s still functional, so I have the option to play in that room….

I buy less games for other systems too bc of Game Pass. But if I really want a game, I still buy it. I bought Mount and Blade and Hot Wheels on PS5 before they were in Game Pass. Also Madden 23 for Steam Deck.I bought DLC for Forza Horizon, Lumines after it left and Red Dead Redemption on Xbox.

I bought both Mount & Blade and Hot Wheels last year on PS5 . No regrets as they are both really cool. Glad SD Gundam is on GP. This is a good month

As others have mentioned, I will have to see the pricing structure. I have tables on Xbox, Switch and WiiU…. Love the games, but it really is a big mess with the pricing structure.

The only problem I have is that MSFT isn’t delivering on current projects and this will add to an already full plate.

Sonic is the best Mario Kart alternative by far. So underrated. Not quite as good as MK8D, but I love the game deeply.

I want one but it would serve very little purpose other than accumulating stuff. Love the size and value tho.

@electrolite77 I totally get what u r saying. I think some people almost make their console of choice part of their identity. That said, I think at least to a degree, you buy a console to play their exclusives. Granted, to some this might not matter as much, especially those who just buy one or two games a year like COD and Madden…..

@carlos82 exactly. This Gen seems more like a performance upgrade. I think we have hit diminishing returns on graphics. Load times, quick resume are my favs and of course GamePass.

I bought Lumines, even tho I have it on Switch. Switch is purely handheld for me. I had a $5 credit from Microsoft, so I just took the plunge.

@Swirly sell the S and save for an X. Why deny yourself of an entire ecosystem?

If I am Microsoft, do I want to make CoD an exclusive? I will sell a few more consoles, sure…. But I will also lose a lot of sales too. My guess is the number of people who buy a console for this specific game is small- like maybe a million or two. But then there will be overlap- some people who will own both consoles. If I were a huge Ps5 fan and wanted to play CoD, I would either play it on PC or get a Series S.

@StylesT I am slowly starting to realize that it’s time to play the backlog….or I am just pissing $$$$ away. The next best game is probably one that I already own….

Looks cool. I wonder if Assist Mode makes it easy enough for an unskilled player like me….

@StylesT I got one through a bundle with GameStop. They are pretty cool. Love the battery life and the ability to adjust the tension in the thumb sticks. It is slightly more ergonomic and has a better quality build. I am not into games enough to benefit from creating profiles for different types of games.

Sooooo…. Tho I really prefer the Pro controller, $179 is far too much. The only reason why I got it was to get the system a few month early. Figured I would rather actually get something for it than just pay a scalper. If the price isn’t an obstacle, then by all means, it is a buy.

I can see them go either way. My guess is they stand pat and use it as a differentiator, hope to make up with additional subs to GamePass. But MFST is a big, evil corporate entity and they tend to like to squeeze $$$$ out of consumers any way they can.

@BAMozzy it is pretty cool that u regain access to those games tho once u resubscribe. I had a Vita and used PS Plus for a while. Cancelled a few months before they stopped the service for Vita. Got a PS5 recently and all my games are still there, waiting to be unlocked when I re-up. I also thought it was cool how I got the PS4 version with my Vita purchases, so I can play some of those games on my Ps5. This was a pleasant surprise.

@BBB I had read that GT was generally harder to play than Forza. I am about average at that game and wanted to try out the series with GT Sport since it is much cheaper, especially with the sale they had. I think Forza looks better and in a lot of ways is more realistic in appearance, But GT seems to be far smoother as far as handling and control. Plus the music is pretty damned cool.

I disagree with y’all dissing on Gran Tourismo. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. GT has more responsive controls and the music is good. I still love Forza, but rn I am loving GT and having more fun with it.

@NEStalgia yeah, I didn’t mean that the Switch Lite was going to be a full streaming play if for no other reason as has been mentioned, the infrastructure just isn’t there yet. But it can be a test the waters of sorts to see if this is the direction they want to move in.

Not sure if this is really the direction Nintendo is headed, but there are rumors that there will be a Switch Lite with 5g connection….they are reportedly spending a ton of money on online play and infrastructure— vague wording in the shareholder financial reports, but it’s in the billions. Are they betting on streaming? Will the 5g Switch Lite be a test of this approach?

This way they can keep their quirky hardware and hope that by the time the Switch is ready to sunset, they won’t have to keep up with the hardware ace nearly as much bc the gamer will have steaming options too.

@NEStalgia yeah, that very thought has crossed my mind. I am not sure what their niche will be post Switch or Switch 2.0 with games having bigger demands. If they don’t play their cards right, the next Gen Nintendo console has WiiU written all over it if it loses 3rd party support.

@Dezzy70 maybe I am just old school, but part of Nintendo’s magic is their quirky way of doing things….it’s not the best example by any means, but it just feels awkward playing Nintendo stuff on other devices like Mario Kart Tour or the Mario runner.

Granted, I agree with you in that the device is feeling dated and is due for at least a pro model soon. OTOH, I feel like the longer we wait, the better the specs will be for the next gen system….

@Dezzy70 I like Nintendo stuff being on Nintendo hardware….actually, i kinda like having three consoles with their own exclusives. Tho it does seem like there’s not much reason to own both Xbox and Ps5. Still enjoy both tho.

Pretty much agree. I am fine with the major three. Apple Arcade is alright for the price. No interest in what Google is doing or VR, if even considered a console.

@Tharsman Nintendo is supposedly investing billions in online services and infrastructure. They have been vague about what this entails. Maybe it makes sense for them to introduce a 5g Switch model if this is the case.

@uptownsoul I don’t know why he is so eager to kill off the console. I think he said this is the last generation. I guess it gets him headlines, but the dude is never right.

@Richnj excellent post. If I didn’t have so many Xbox One physical games, the Series S would be fine with me. It really is an underrated piece of hardware. Love how it’s portable.

If I didn’t have a big collection of Xbox one games, I wouldn’t mind an S at all. I might get one anyway for portability to play with friends…
