However, these new PS5 cost increases make Xbox's pricing look pretty good comparatively, and particularly in UK/EU regions. Microsoft's entry-level Xbox Series S is also now hugely cheaper than the equivalent PS5 Digital console, providing a much lower barrier-to-entry for the current-gen Xbox ecosystem.
You're probably curious as to how all of these prices compare across regions, then, so we're going to make that all easy-to-digest in a handy table down below. Remember, Sony's price hikes will begin on April 2nd, 2026, and these Xbox prices are accurate as of Microsoft's last price bump in September 2025.

At the time of writing, Microsoft is yet to announce any of its own console price hikes for 2026, but we're of course wary of something similar happening with Xbox, especially in the current economic climate. These are the accurate cost comparisons for now though, and we're really glad we bought into the current generation at the start of the decade at this point.
This also throws up fresh questions about Project Helix and the next generation of gaming, and just how much that's all going to cost after digesting these eye-watering PS5 price hikes. That's for another day, though, we've got current-gen console costs to worry about for now.
