Xbox Games With Gold For August 2023 Announced

honestly i thought they'd go out with a bang, like, thanks for sticking with us! i guess they wanted to remind us one last time we won't miss it.

Absolute garbage good riddance to this service Microsoft you should be ashamed when ps plus games were knocking it out the park every month with free games Microsoft gave us absolute rubbish every month glad it's gone just concentrate now on gamepass which is pretty great

I own both of these on the Switch.

While I won't be replaying them, they are definitely 2 decent games to close the service on.

As expected - a couple of 'mediocre' games as they wouldn't want to go out with a Bang and then people complain that GwG was 'better' because of a few 'decent' games.

At least with Core, you'll get access to more Games...

Makes sense, get it done and work on Game Pass and more, Games with gold had it's time, it's now done! Which makes sense!

Inertial Drift is a fab game - and well worth owning, but I really did think they would do out with a bang... so much for that!

Better these two games than nothing at all. But people seem to like nothing.

Still couldn't give us more than 2 titles for the final month huh...yeah begone with this service. Both games do seem fun to me though NGL.

It's worth having GWG go away if it results in fewer "indie games are garbage / mediocre / crap / trash" nonsense.

Way to go out with a blip... I mean, both these games look decent. But, I really thought they'd bring in a big fish for the finale.

Blue Fire had been on my radar, I think this for me is "going out with a bang," within reason.

It’s not perfect, but I’ve been meaning to play Blue Fire for AAAAAGES so that’s a definite grab for me. Inertial drift looks decent too, not my cup of tea since the most I’ve gotten into a racing game is Mario Kart and Forza Horizon free-roam, but looks good for those who’d be interested which I imagine is a fair few people. It ain’t a perfect month, but really I just kinda wanted a month where I did in fact actually want to claim one of the games, and Blue Fire fulfills that criteria so I’m happy. I might still pick it up on Switch later down the line since that’s my preferred platform for that kind of game, but it’ll be nice to have on Xbox.

Two good games are perfect… it was unreasonable to expect anything close to AAA and would have been sad if shovelware. So they hit it out of the park … sigh

That's how they end the service? Thankfully it has ended. We've not got the best title out of there. Infact the only title I was grateful for was Forza Motorsport 6, I missed the others before that.

I believe even the most beautiful and ahead of it's time game was on here too; Ryse: Son of Rome

I still don’t get what people want. Playstation give bigger games a lot of the time and guess what; I already have them and most i’ve played. Surely it’s better to get games you don’t own.

While I think most games that have been "given" away on GWG have been victim to a bad rap - "free" doesn't mean "crap"! - this is a bit underwhelming. I'm sure the games will be entertaining, but to put the program down with such a whimper is very Microsoft-like.

A couple of solid games there. A bit of a shame people who haven't played them are writing them off as 'garbage'.

I would have liked them to have done a couple of classic games, maybe an OG and a 360 game for one last hurrah

These are not the worst two games given away, but they do emphasise why the service had to go and how it looks in comparison to the only comparable service.

For those of us on ultimate, we now get nothing at all to replace these and the service becomes just a little bit worse as a result.
It would be easier to digest if Game Pass were knocking it out the park, but for me, its not been doing that recently and my Xbox has not been getting a lot of play in the last few months as a result.
Appreciate that will be very different according to tastes, so please don't take offence that my tastes don't align with yours, but I bought into the GP promise because it promised to deliver big games on day 1 and that's not happened often enough for my tastes. I feel like last year we had far bigger and better additions, and more of them, than we have had this year. The smaller/indie titles are fine, but I also get them on the 'other service', so they don't have the impact they may have if I were GP only - its the big and exclusive games I came for. Like everyone else, I'm still waiting for some more 'big hitters' and cannot wait till Starfield and Motorsport to make the service seem more worthwhile to me.
I'm signed up for another 18 months regardless, so I just hope that the delivery of two MS first party big hitters is just the start of much better things to come, and judging by the summer show, we have plenty to look forward to.
At least with this service ending we don't have to have these threads every month, it has kind of fallen into the same conversation every month...

To suggest Xbox Live Gold failed is pretty comical. It was hugely successful for MS and shaped the future of this industry. Console gaming, in regards to online, is where it is today because of Gold.

Even if you were just referring to Games with Gold, to suggest it was a failure from beginning to end is equally comical. Games with Gold had many great years. It was just the last couple that it really dipped down to where it is now.

Frankly I don't play with other gamers anymore : "millennium" don't respect other players and I'm too old to endure this !
I'm pretty annoyed by the fact that you NEED to be only in order to play SOLO games.... What the hell ?? I paid my games , I can play off line too, no ? Oh well... I like GOG for PC too : you can back up your games and you can MOD your games (= fix your games because developers are too lazy to fix them !!).
That's the big plus of "normal" PC (Xbox is just a PC platform rebranded .. but it's a PC, not a console for me...)

Gold in general has been around for close to 22 years and literally changed the face of console gaming. GWG was added on as a perk for no additional charge later on. Having a downturn in the quality of games the last couple years is not failing, not even close. Gold and GWG were still both highly successful, even factoring in the final 2 years. Had you said in your original post that the final 2 years were a failure for GWG, I wouldn’t have said anything. That’s not what you said and you made it seem like the whole program was a failure, thus MS filing it away under failed endeavors. That is objectively false.

And people’s opinions of the games given away with GWG is purely 100% subjective. I agree the games were weak the last couple years, but it’s still 100% subjective opinion. There is nothing objective about it. It doesn’t matter if 99.9% of the people out there agree the games were weak. It’s still 100% subjective opinion.
