Re: Xbox Fans Are Really Impressed With The Halo Infinite Technical Preview

flawse

@Kilamanjaro Yeah, I also moved to (and I think I’ll stay in) “the big city” while they ended up moving back to our small hometown. So I’m considered a bit posh or something. I’m mostly playing WZ nowadays with a new set of friends (about half of my regiment use PlayStation), but at least a couple of them will play Halo in November. Considering lending out my old Xbox One to get another one playing Halo, but my kids would miss it as it’s their primary console. When BoTW 2 appear I think I have a window…

Re: Xbox Fans Are Really Impressed With The Halo Infinite Technical Preview

flawse

Been playing since yesterday morning (yeah, a day late but I didn’t expect it to launch by CET). I was really looking forward to the grapple and I’m a bit disappointed by the tiny maps available so far, but the tech preview really triggers some nostalgia without the weird clumsy subsystems we’ve left behind. Halo is back! Modern, but classic. Like remembering Quake, Unreal Tournament or similar back in their glory day. Only fancier and snappier. I didn’t dislike the games post-Bungie, but I’ve also only finished them once or twice and only played a fraction of multiplayer compared to the previous titles (pre-Live I used VPN-services to extend my LAN to WAN, when we didn’t chug our CRTs around). A bit saddened by the fact that most of my childhood friends are strictly PlayStation players now, but eehh … I’m fine. Current and new friends will take their place.

Re: Xbox Game Studios Acquisition Helped Make Psychonauts 2 Bigger, Says Double Fine

flawse

Psychonauts is one of my favorite games. Only played it once though, which I deeply regret.

I backed the sequel and would do it again though! Double Fine is probably my favorite game dev (they used to be tie with Telltale, before the latter started to churn out games for profit over substance) … I hope they get to do more oddball/classic adventures to fill the XGS slate with, like Broken Age and The Cave and Costume Quest 1 & 2 and Stacked and… ooh, a sequel to Brütal Legend perhaps!? And, really, anything they come up with during their Amnesia Fortnights. Damn, I forgot about Iron Brigade, Spacebase DF-9… I haven’t played all of their games, but I probably should…

Re: Xbox Series X Running On A Vintage Monitor Boasts 'Stunning' Results, Reveals Analysis

flawse

I enjoy playing a 4K feed to a 1080p monitor. I prefer color space over resolution and for me to replace my current Eizo, the higher resolution models need to go down in price. Not the best at GtG etc, but it’s OK. It’s all trade-offs, what you rather want. For example, I really enjoy the blacks on my iPhone XS but it’s so bad at moving high contrast elements. And the viewing angle is *****, I’d estimate ~5–10 degrees offset before noticeable changes. I much prefer an IPS over OLED. But I upgraded from an 5S, whose screen had deteriorated to yellow borders all around, so I didn’t mind back then (even if I was aware of the issues mentioned). At least the colors are good (viewed straight on). I’d love to buy an Android someday, but Google has a rather bad track record for me… magenta tinted screens (or cyan, I haven’t seen an Android properly characterized)… and the fact that Chrome still can’t handle blending modes via CSS. Basic stuff. Anyway, each tech has its flaws and have you ever fiddled with different anti-aliasing settings? Hook up a 4K feed to a 1080P outlet. “Free 4X AA”. I have fond childhood memories of playing Halo:CE in LAN, setting up CRTs in a conference room (and a foam mattress for each sets players). But damn, they were heavy.

Re: Xbox Is Releasing A New Firmware Update To Improve Controller Disconnect Issues

flawse

Had this (I think) until I noticed my controller pushed ever so slightly on a button or trigger while in its “cradle”, a small box-like shelf on my desk setup. Since I began positioning it to lean fully against the grip I’ve been free of it. I guess it tried handshakes, got tired and disconnected itself. While gaming it’s been working great. Lesson learned though regarding its rest.

Re: Return To The Slopes Later This Year In Shredders, Coming First To XSX

flawse

Sounds and looks good! I’ve tried a few games since Amped 1/2, but starting with Amped 3 they all got a bit nonsensical … not my cup of tea. I mean, I enjoyed Tony Hawk and TransWorld Snowboarding (etc), where you could do one huge combo all the way down from the top. But really, nah, I’d rather absorb the illusion of crisp snow. Fall if the board cuts in a bit too harsh. Do tricks without magical sparkling otherworldly effects. Hyped! Fingers crossed that they add ⛷ as well.

Re: Part One Of Minecraft's Caves & Cliffs Update Is Out Next Week On Xbox

flawse

Guess it’s time to opt out of beta then, my daughter’s been loving it (axolotl the most, I think copper roofing and the spiced up caves are nice) but not being able to join older builds of the game (which all of her friends run)… not really worth it. I don’t get it, it’s not like Minecraft requires a huge chunk of disk space… why can’t I have two builds simultaneously installed?

Re: 343 Celebrates Halo's 20th Anniversary With Absolutely Stunning 4K Artwork

flawse

Playing solo on Legendary, not really up for it (hung over) and outnumbered, and towards the end I’m chased by a Banshee with the battlefield empty of weapons and ammo. I hurry into a tunnel riding a Ghost… I jump off, launch my last rocket and walk away from the explosion. KEYBOARD SOLO! The wreckage flies over my head…

Re: Oops, Xbox's Confidential Review Of The Last Of Us 2 Just Leaked

flawse

Oh. Can't even list all of the games with which I have gun combat issues – let's jot down a few (that I, and I guess plenty more, like):
Half-Life, Resident Evil, GoldenEye … they are excellent games, but they have kinks I'd prefer ironed out. Still excellent though. No biggie… move on…

Re: Xbox Cloud Gaming Arrives On PC, iOS In Beta Form This Week

flawse

@flawse I’ve mostly used Bluestacks for my cobbled together ambilight, before I got Harmonize.py working and hassle free on a spare RPi. But it actually performed quite well! A bit low res and I have a maxed out MBP 16”, so no strain, but still… emulation is usually a bit wonky regardless of a systems power.

Re: Despite The Bad Press, Cyberpunk 2077 Resulted In CD Projekt's Most Financially Successful Year Yet

flawse

Haven't played on XO yet, but XSX since launch ~60–70h. Sure, I'm upwards 300h in CoD:WZ but I've seen way more bugs in that game. Watch Dogs ~5h, way more bugs. And so on… I get that old hardware can't flawlessly handle the scope of such a sprawling (albeit a bit stiff and scripted) city, what I don't understand is why people assume it would? And haven't the gamers of today played games for more than 1 generation? This ALWAYS happens. It sorts itself out (the tonic requires blood, sweat and tears) eventually. At least since the 360-era, when console games got the benefit to be patched relatively easy. It's a bit sad to see all the wannabes hate on it (don't get me wrong, I struggle to call myself a gamer – got 2 kids, busy day-to-day life and so on). I'm usually into indie titles and certain studios, like Double Fine. Sure; I try the really popular franchises, but they seldom stick with me. I got into Witcher late (when it released for NS), but I now have a copy for X and PC as well… if I like to switch it up. Or something. What I'm trying to convey is that Cyberpunk, to me, feels like an iconic title. I'm no-way near the end btw, I recently got Silverhand … my street cred level is almost maxed out though. A bit cliché, but I'm sporting a katana and a high-end cyber deck. Hacking software and "hardware", the latter if they engage in kidnapping, trafficking etc… otherwise I mostly "reset" the baddies… I grow tired of the decadence, but in small doses it's a fresh breeze of filth.

Re: The Witcher 3's Next-Gen Update Will Arrive In The Second Half Of 2021

flawse

@Michu2951 On XsX you currently miss it if you blink within region, so I guess changing region will be similar to readjusting your cans and mic-boom or something. Gone are the days of hot beverages. I’ve yet to finish Wild Hunt, only just arrived (last winter, I mainly played on the train to the office… it’s not suitable to play riding a bike) in Skellige on Switch.

Re: CDPR Reveals Everything Included In Patch 1.2 For Cyberpunk 2077

flawse

I’ve played a couple of hours since the new patch (~60 in total now, still too busy with side quests to be bothered with main story… I got Keanu but that’s about it). Can’t say I notice anything different? Probably a bigger deal on legacy consoles though (haven’t tried it on my old XO yet).

I really don’t get the bug hysteria, since release I’ve had fewer issues in CP2077 than for example in WD:L during the free play weekend. Or in WZ (which accounts for the majority of my time playing).

I’m more “meh” about the dystopian setting, maybe it’s a little funny to wack someone with Sir John Phallustiff but I’ve yet to try (I’m a nomad, wielding a bright red katana and a stacked cyberdeck … I hack software and occasionally “hardware”)… I’m not sure about the setting, if it’s childish or not, but then again… my journey has just begun.

Really hope people get into it later on, it’s a great game.

Re: Gears Dev The Coalition Appears To Have Helped Out With Halo Infinite

flawse

@NEStalgia Probably similar to Cyberpunk 2077, a bit too incomplete for most end users (but just fine for current gen and the master race). I expected CP2077 to release unfinished (based on what CDPR has done before) and shape up over the coming years. I'm actually finding it in better shape than expected (only played it on XSX, but I've installed it on my X1 for funsies). The issue is, as always, choice. Making it for all or just for the privileged? I'm happy to read that they make use of their resources and I'm fine with waiting a bit longer. CP2077 is not a bad game, but it really bombed thanks to X1/PS4-support. It should be way higher on the charts, but I guess most are stuck on last gen. I don't see M$ skipping out on X1, and the verticality is needed anyway for the diff configs of PCs… it'll be just fine (sooner or later, just moderate expectations and get to that backlog!)

Re: Microsoft Unveils The All-New Xbox Wireless Headset

flawse

I cut the cord to my pair of AKG K550, soldered a jack (fit perfectly in the hole) and bought a mic equipped cord. I doubt the sound will be better in these, but I’m intrigued. Whenever I read spatial audio I think of my AirPods Pro, having dynamic positional sound based on the direction my head is facing (the screen)… would be so cool to listen a bit closer by turning my head a bit, hear clearly if I really heard foot steps behind that wall to the right… but alas. I guess it’ll take a few years at least until others add that. Apple and audio? Who would’ve thought? However. After a year being forced into Microsoft Teams based meetings I know for sure that “auto mute” is no-no-no… but the price, if good enough… I recently bought a pair of Razer Blackshark V2X, but I can never have too many headsets… I really enjoy the Atmos virtualization, makes a huge difference, but if only the headset could track my direction… I’ll dream on.

Re: Co-Op Adventure It Takes Two Will Offer A Free Trial

flawse

I’m intrigued! Looks well designed (graphics, humor, flow etc) and all… I grew up w/ Halo CE co-op (well, I did play NES in my youth etc, but I was way more into computers back then… let’s say I grew up w/ Xbox a little later; as a console player) and I’m OK with co-op being a different beast now; this might suit me, where I am now … perhaps even the younglings could pick this up. My GF only likes 2D Metroid and 3D Zelda, but perhaps the relationship drama caters to her. Will keep my eyes peeled.

Re: Poll: How Are You Finding Quick Resume On Xbox Series X|S So Far?

flawse

I don’t care that much. However. I still use my Xbox One occasionally (it’s hooked up to the family TV, mainly so that the kids can have at it and my Series X sits on a shelf above my desk… I take quick breaks during “office hours”). Everything is so much snappier on the SX. That said; I think the majority of the games I play support it and the feature has saved me additional hours so far. I think at least twice before I load up a game on my X1. Not so much on the SX. I have too many games to play, saving some time to do so is a plus. Not a requirement or something to fuss about.

Re: Talking Point: How Are You Finding Cyberpunk 2077 So Far?

flawse

Tomorrow! I’m so late to the party, but I got cheap. Preordered it Black Friday from Amazon and… well … All this #cyberbug talk gets me interested in installing it on both my X1 and XSX, to see what the fuss is all about. Bugs are fun (when they’re not of your own doing), remember Goat Simulator! When it all comes around… it’s just a game. And CDPR track record tells of a bright (neon) future. There are plenty of game breaking bugs in other popular titles. It’s not like you need to start from the beginning every now and then, right?

Re: Talking Point: What's The Most Underrated Feature Of The Xbox Series X|S So Far?

flawse

Quick resume is the big one for me. Or generally launching games, I often surprise with “BRB, I need to restart [Warzone, due to some patch or bug or whatnot]” and my team (mostly PS4 players) didn’t notice me leaving. I’ve had some games skimp out on QR, but mostly it works just fine. No way near the cries of “It’s broken! It’s flawed!”, it’s much more stable than I imagined it would be. And the system still take less space than X1? That’s weird. I’m no fan of Microsoft in general (rather the opposite, mostly booting up fruits and berries), but I think they get way too much flak for Xbox. The system just works and that’s how I like it. A shame that their app is inferior to OneCast though, which I’ve used (on pad, phone, tv and lap-/desktops) for a couple of years now… but I have high hopes!

Re: New Xbox Mobile App Brings Remote Play To Apple Users

flawse

This is great! However, I’ve had more stable connection playing (w/ on-screen controls) on my phone on the subway to work with OneCast (with which I’ve had this functionality for at least two years? Three? Can’t remember). I’ve used it most extensively on Mac and iPad (w/ eth/wifi), iPhone (4G) feels a bit gimmicky. Nowadays I keep my Xbox by my home office 24”, so I mostly fire up OneCast on my Apple TV for the kids… they don’t mind the extra 1–2ms lag. Xbox.app feels a bit rough around the edges, but there’s other improvements as well (like full side-swipe, instead of overextending for the top arrow to go back) so I have high hopes! I don’t think the likes of Warzone or similar high octane gaming will ever work good enough streaming, but I’ve managed plenty of velociraptor breakouts just fine. For now, I’ll stick to OneCast.

Re: Poll: Which Next-Gen Xbox Controller Do You Prefer?

flawse

Black is more “true” to the device, it’s easier to get the tint color proof (or rather, one that doesn’t stray to much). It’s also way broodier, like Batman, and more powerful. It doesn’t need as much cleaning. Aaand that’s why I’d go with white. I try to clean my HID weekly, but I know I eventually slack off… visual confirmation of filth? Yes please.
