It's been a long time coming, but now Microsoft has officially announced that a "limited beta" will begin for Xbox Cloud Gaming on PC and iOS devices as soon as tomorrow, April 20th for select Xbox Game Pass Ultimate users.
The Xbox team says it will be sending out invites on a continuous basis to players in all 22 supported countries, with the intention of opening up to all Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers over the coming months.
Xbox Cloud Gaming will be a browser-based service on PC and iOS devices (unlike Android which currently uses the Xbox Game Pass app) and will be accessible via the Edge, Google Chrome and Safari browsers.
"Starting tomorrow, we’ll begin sending out invites to select Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members to start testing the Xbox Cloud Gaming limited beta for Windows 10 PCs and Apple phones and tablets via web browsers.
We’re launching xbox.com/play where invitees can play over 100 Xbox Game Pass titles through Edge, Google Chrome, or Safari. Offering cloud gaming through the browser and having a simplified, universal landing page presents a great opportunity to make cloud gaming approachable to more players in more places over time."

I’m getting a Razer Kashi in the mail today in anticipation of xCloud being imminent. I thought it already was in Beta? In any case, pick me!!!
@awp69 It's in Beta on Android but we haven't seen it on PC or iOS until now.
Finally!! Really hoping I get picked
@FraserG I went back to find The Verge article I read on iOS and guess it was just in testing for MS employees.
It will still be running on rubbish Xbox One S architecture though and I thought the BETA was already in place and Spring was when we were all getting ios access to Xcloud so pretty disgruntled to be honest.
720p which looks naff on tablets is not the way to play Xbox games. Either sort out the systems to run on Series tech or just don’t bother at all.
Finally I can use my iPad with the Xbox cloud. Much more comfortable than a phone connected on a controller.
@jarvismp
They can't even get the Series X into customers hands right now but you expect them to replace all their One S server blades?
This is a BETA remember, not some service you are specifically paying for...
Yaaaasss I’m so hype!
Have they updated the series x controller to work with ios yet? I bought that thinking it would get updated sooner.
Soooooo... might then someone with a less than stellar PC actually get to play a PC game or two and not concern themselves with hardware they lack?
Will these invites be sent along with the release of iOS 14.5? Because as far as I'm aware, XB controllers don't currently work with iOS, and 14.5 is supposed to sort that out. Only DualShock 4 controllers work at the moment, which is kinda ironic.
@notleks_
I can confirm that the controllers work perfectly with iOS 14.5
What I want to know.. will iCloud work on my Mac?
Xcloud was the reason I ended up getting a series s, the app had problems, 720p only, not fullscreen, lag in headphones via Bluetooth, need atleast 100mbs to run smoothly (luckily I had most of the time)
Yay! I would love to be picked but this at least means everyone’s closer to playing on their iOS devices..
@Ocat Bluestacks. Try it out now by emulating Android. But yeah, the beta should work fine in Edge, Chrome or Safari.
@flawse I’ve mostly used Bluestacks for my cobbled together ambilight, before I got Harmonize.py working and hassle free on a spare RPi. But it actually performed quite well! A bit low res and I have a maxed out MBP 16”, so no strain, but still… emulation is usually a bit wonky regardless of a systems power.
@Itsacardgame iOS 14.5 brings support for Xbox Series X|S controllers, as well as PlayStation 5 controllers.
Apple event is tomorrow (20th) so the new iOS might be available after that.
This is the start of the big game changer. When you can just fire up the latest Game Pass game from a tab in your browser, it opens it up to so many more people rather than restricting them to buying a new console etc.
I still use Stadia a bit and streaming definitely has a place in the market imo.
@jarvismp this might make you happy

@UltimateOtaku91 uhm you really shouldn't use bluetooth-transferred audio for gaming. Not until it's ready.
@JeffWhiff excellent news! Thanks for the info. Tomorrow sounds like a good day
Whoop! One invite = one Razer Kashi sale. Maths are great.
@endlessleep Nice one! I think when I hit 40 my patience reduced! 😂👊
Yes! Today my invite came and so far I am...underwhelmed. But hey it’s a Beta. I have played a good few hours, different games and it is dreadful. I have a really strong and fast connection and it constantly loses connection, the games stutter so after day one its a case off - thank god it is only day one!!! The main issue is pretty obvious - running a cloud offering from last gen tech and the worst of the last gen tech as well is not helpful. Stadia runs like grease lightning. This is not good. Let’s hope the beta makes sure when it comes to the masses it is really honed down.
