CD Projekt's third entry in The Witcher series already runs rather well on the Xbox Series X|S, but as you might recall, there's more to come.
The Polish-based company will be releasing a true "next-generation" update for The Witcher 3, which will add ray tracing and include even faster load times. It's doing this with the help of Saber Interactive. Now, in a small update today - the release window of this next-gen upgrade has been narrowed down to the "second half" of this year.
As previously noted, this upgrade will be available as a free update for existing owners of the Xbox One version. So, if you were planning on replaying The Witcher 3, it might be worth holding out until the second half of this year.
Will you be rejoining Geralt on his adventures when this next-gen update rolls out? Leave a comment down below.

I'm currently more excited about this than I am about Cyberpunk, Lol.
I've been deliberately waiting for this version to finish the DLC, which I never did on my first 2 playthroughs.
Have only gotten around a couple of hours into the game over time. Might hold off, like I have with Cyberpunk.
I’ve still barely started this game despite buying it years ago but I’ll definitely be giving it another go with the next-gen update and hopefully I’ll finish it this time.
@MaccaMUFC I bought the game 3 times - PS4, Xbox, and Switch. And never finished a full run until Switch version. Been waiting on Series X upgrade to do a second run. However I still wanna do a second run on Switch for NG+ Gear, lol. May have to do 2 more runs!
@Dezzy Same here. I still have yet to buy CP2077 - though it’s on the list, CDPR is an amazing dev, and I have full faith they’ll get the game into an amazing state.
@Dezzy I'm excited about both, if only because my plan with Cyberpunk all along was to wait for the next gen version. Still, since I was already going to replay The Witcher 3 at some point since my first playthrough was on PS4 and I never played the DLC, I might as well wait a bit longer to play it for the first time on Xbox.
I had started a playthrough when the first season of the Netflix show dropped, so I'm expecting to be able to pick up where I left off game save and achievement wise with this (likely unlike on PlayStation since most PS5 versions end up being completely separate).
Great news! I still only played the beginning so that's very exciting it'll be like a new game when I finally get to it rather than a backlog game.
Though TESO, FFXIV and PSO2 Gen may have xsx versions by then and that's all pretty intriguing even from a non mmo fan perspective.
@NEStalgia
You still haven't played the Witcher 3?
@Dezzy lol, no, I bought it in 2018 and haven't played beyond the beginning. Might have done it this year, but then I heard about the xsx/ps5 free remaster and waiting was a no brained. Though I don't know when I'll realistically get to that as the backlog is growing.
@MaccaMUFC haha same! I'm maybe 10 hours in to the Switch version even though I've had it for 20 months. I once owned it for 8 months and was 2 hours in, then sold it. So someday I may finish it
I wonder how loading times when switching regions gonna change. Last gen when traveling from Skellige to Novigrad I had enough time to make myself a tea haha
@Michu2951 playing the Xbox One version on Xbox Series X, the load times are already instantaneous. The only way they could get any quicker would be if it loaded you into the new area before you'd pressed the button to fast travel. 😂
@Michu2951 On XsX you currently miss it if you blink within region, so I guess changing region will be similar to readjusting your cans and mic-boom or something. Gone are the days of hot beverages. I’ve yet to finish Wild Hunt, only just arrived (last winter, I mainly played on the train to the office… it’s not suitable to play riding a bike) in Skellige on Switch.
@VenomousAlbino Good to know it improved so much without any upgrade, must play game. With current upgrade its on my radar again even though I finished it,
