@BBB Agreed. I just switched to PC sim racing, and it's not even a close debate. But even when I was a console sim racer, I already knew this to be the case. Articles/opinions like these are pretty ignorant or uneducated.
@TheSimulator Who's surprised? No one is suprised here. The point is that this exposes Microsoft's true intentions to monopolize the industry and eliminate choice & competition. Because, well, they said it themselves.
25.5 years later, still not 60fps๐ (but it is 30 and at least not dipping into the teens, lol)
Absolutely loved this game as a fresh out of high school kid, played the funnest marathon sessions with my friend & my bro. Still have the cartridge & my N64 in storage. But this release is exactly what I expected: Dated.๐ Really wished they could have secured us the unreleased Xbox 360 version of this instead.๐ซ
@Kaloudz I wouldn't think so. In fact, I know that during the pandemic, [sim] racing saw a big boom. I think Project CARS found itself in a stiff market, having to go up against similar titles that are equal to if not better than it is (Gran Turismo 7 on PS; Forza Motorsport on Xbox/PC; and also the Assetto Corsa series). "Dirt" may have been only had a smaller segment of the racing community (arcade rallying). Dirt Rally on the other hand is beloved by sim-racing/rallying enthusiasts --- and I for one am just happy that EA did not kill that off ...
Punches still don't look like they are thrown with any kind of snap or velocity or weight behind them. Not sure why this is so hard to capture in a boxing game.
Normally, IDGAF about multiplayer. But when I realized my brother with 3 kids now and doesn't game has a Switch, I realized that we could have played 007 multiplayer against each other 300 miles apart.๐ญ We'd spend hours & hours playing each other 25 years ago...
Knew not to expect this would be the rumored Xbox 360 version that was never released...which is still disappointing...but hopefully this N64 remaster means that won't be any sub-20 fps moments throughout the game.
Both Elite 2 controllers I bought have annoyingly loud rumble motors, it totally kills the immersion (unless I am wearing my headphones). I do like the assortment & arrangement of sticks you can use. But besides that, I kind of wish I had saved my money and just stuck with the stock controllers...
Not sure why only recently he had an issue with it. Years ago, before COVID, back in the live event E3 days, the public and gaming media were complaining about way too many CGI trailers and not enough gameplay. Gamers have been tired of it for years now, and yet MS was still cranking out CGI trailers.
This had been my favorite game of all time up until only recently. But idk how much time I'd put into a N64 port. (I still have my old N64.) I was really hoping this would be the remastered version developed for the 360 that never released ... but, it's better than nothing, I suppose.
Only played 3.5 innings, got bored, a snoozefest, and went straight back to GT7 and Returnal. And I'll probably just delete it today, despite having ample storage space. lol. Other than the 60fps, not much different between this and MLB 18, the last game I purchased, and still the same stale graphics engine & animations from the PS3, two generations ago.
Modern_Vintage_Gamer on YouTube just did a GT7 video in which he alludes to the always-online nature of the game possibly being related to car manufacturer licenses expiring after so many years (see MS delisting Forza Motorsport 7 last year, and only being available to purchase via disc version). Possibly, always-online & DRM may be the way things will be going forward. Once those contracts expire, I'd imagine Sony/PD, for example, turning off those servers, and this game won't be playable at all (other than music rally๐). The days of buying a game and being able to play it wherever & whenever you want may eventually be a thing of the past, unless people push back against it.
If FM8 actually doesn't force always-online on people, huge kudos to them, and I will also be shocked/surprised. I think this GT7 fiasco would have been a good time to distance themselves โ or even troll SONY, the way Grid Legends did โ by letting people know they aren't going this route. But I'm worried always-online is the trend going forward...
@Sol76 Ugh. So you mean that isn't normal and it's just bad quality control? I just thought that's how these controllers performed. Didn't think my luck would be that bad, receiving 2 completely brand-new & sealed controllers from Amazon.
I don't know what's worse, fanboys flaming wars on forums, or the people constantly crying about the media, the media, the media, and that articles like these are "fanboy/click-baiting" ... lol. Lighten up.
I own both games, on the next-gen systems, with a pretty fancy wheel & pedal setup. And while I do most of my gaming on my PS5, the simple fact that you can still compare these 2 games graphically (yeah, even despite the fact that GT7 was built on the PS4 game engine), is a testament to how great a game FM7 was, how much of a powerhouse it was, how ahead of its time it was ...
@GASEOUS ...and ACC just got the PS5/XSX upgrade last week. Not the car culture encyclopedia that GT7 is, but still an amazing, realistic, and gritty racing experience. I'll be switching back & forth between it, and GT7 ...
It goes without saying, even though this list is for Game Pass games, the most comparable game to GT7 on Xbox is Forza Motorsport 7. Of course, if you don't already own it digitally, you will have to buy a disc copy from somewhere. But, even 4+ years after release, it's still an amazing looking game, boasting full 4k60 visuals ...
Holding off. Most of my games are Game Pass games, and I do spend most of my time on PS5. Would be nice to have the extra space at my immediate disposal, but I can continue to do the shuffle for now
@Banjo- How would you know Push Square is "usually" where I am? Are you stalkin'? Thanks for the advice, I'll choose the second option. Anyone (adult?) rocking a damn Banjo Kazooe name & avatar cannot be taken seriously ๐
The only game from this lengthy list that I play is Crash Team Racing, and I play it with my wife on my PS5, and that's not very often. But I do want a next-gen version of it! whether that's on PS5 or Series X.
@TheRedComet Yeah, great, we have options NOW...but once one company controls most of the output, that won't be the case.
All the fanboys are going to be like "Yeah, we won the console wars!" But if in 10 years, all we have is Microsoft and Nintendo issuing consoles & games, and Sony is forced to become like Nintendo and make only in-house "boutique" style games while MS owns all of the more mainstream, mass appealing games, then say goodbye to 'choice' because we're all screwed.
I'm mainly a PlayStation gamer, as I prefer their catalog of exclusive games. But I do own an Xbox Series X, and on top of that, I bought a Game Pass Ultimate subscription through May 2024...so, I am covered. That said, this doesn't feel like such a great thing for the industry โ this feel likes Big bank buys little bank, monopoly at play here ...
It'd be cool if MS could push the technology forward; seems like it'd be easy to partner with Oculus to release one... I really enjoyed the PSVR, but had to sell it because of motion sickness. I hope the tech can advance to where this only affects a few people here & there. Hopefully Sony's PSVR2 has made enough improvements here, but I'll have to play it first extensively before I could buy...
Looking forward to this, would love to have this on a current-gen HDMI system โ the N64 stays in a storage bin. However, if the graphics remain in N64 form without any cleanup or any degree of remastering, it will be a bit disappointing โ the game would look extremely aged, dated, and boring ...
Prior to Returnal, this was my favorite game of all time. My older brother and childhood friend played the multiplayer game for hours at a time my freshman year in college from 1997 thru 1998 ...
Greatest memories? OG Xbox. The best for all that it offers? Series X. Skipped the Xbox One. 360 generation (including PS3) was the generation of gaming I abandoned the most.
Nothing that I don't already own, but there are indeed alot of amazing deals for Xbox... Had some store cash to use in the PS Store, so I bought TLOU Remastered, and Detroit: Become Human to add to my permanent collection. Then used the rest to buy 12 months of PS+
Well, coming from the "sim racing" side of the spectrum, I never agreed with "greatest racing game ever" declaration that many made. But I understand why mainstream outlets are saying it because it is easily accessible, has incredible landscapes, next-gen graphics & performance, fun arcade gameplay, and it greatly appeals to a very wide audience in the gaming hobby. I wouldn't argue that it might be the greatest "arcade racer" of all time. But, yeah...I personally spend exponentially more time playing other racing games.
