It's Time! GoldenEye 007 Is Now Available With Xbox Game Pass

Very VERY dope! I will be playing tonight.

Just downloaded it, so nice its free if you own RR like i do.

So did I take some LSD or is this a misprint, because the date on this article is for tomorrow? Also, this game is supposed to release tomorrow right? I'm so confused right now.

I guess this is what I'm playing tonight instead of Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

@grumpypotato I think they left it that way for authenticity. I think all they did was improve the control scheme to modern standards and raise the resolution. This isn't a remake or a remaster.

I think there was a remaster on the 360 a long time ago. I'm not really sure, it may have been a game with the same name.

Why did Code Mystics develop the Xbox version? It's disappointing after trying it for a few minutes because of the local time. I was hoping that Rare would handle this or 4J that did an excellent work with Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie and Perfect Dark. I need to test this and I'll be able to notice every difference with enough time but now it's bed time. In any case, it's awesome to finally have one of the best shooters ever after being stuck on Nintendo 64 for 26 years, for free if you have Rare Replay.

If you’re a fan of the game straight out of 1997 you’re in for a treat.

If you’re expecting anything more you’ll be disappointed.

@species8472 To whomever wrote this article, the achievements are 🚨 NOT working right now.

Also, you can't buy the game separately. It's either part of GamePass, or you have to own Rare Replay digitally.

Slightly disappointed the game isn't 60FPS, but cannot really complain as it's free if you have game pass or RR.
Will play it fully when it has achievements working.

I’m very excited to have it. Already went through the first two levels in 00 Agent. Amazed how I can hum to the soundtrack, and remember the objectives after not playing it in over 20 years. Love the modern controls, feels like they were always that way (mostly because of muscle memory built over the last years)

Achievements weren’t working for me at the start but are now.

They had been counting all along.

Playing with two analog sicks is nice but that sub 60 framerate is disappointing

@Chaotic_Goat I don't get it. This game already tried to run at 60fps on N64 (even if it rarely hit that target), so the porting team had to go out of their way to cap it at 30fps.

I'm really glad to see this classic brought back for more people to play, but this is looking like a pretty rough port. Sort of a Tales of Symphonia situation all over again.

@ZYDIO there was a 360 remaster that got canned but it did leak (you can play it on PC and there are clips on YT); the rumour was Nintendo kiboshed it out of pettiness so that there wouldn't be a better looking version on another platform (that's what Jeff Grubb has hinted at anyway). That's why we we've just got this port of the OG game here.

There was ALSO a Goldeneye Rogue Agent game that came out for GameCube (I think) but that was just trying to trade off the Goldeneye name. You played a former mi6 agent with an electronic eye implant - a golden eye... Smh

Great Gamepass lineup this month with Persona 3, Persona 4, Monster Hunter Rise, HI-FI Rush, Goldeneye and Age of Empires 2. Thats averaging a pretty high quality 👌

I played through to St. Petersburg. Funny how after all these years, the mission objectives are burnt into my mind. Haha.

It's a decent. Think I'll finish the campaign and see if I can go through a couple of multiplayer matches.

@aj102404 @species8472 I forgot until I got to mission 5 and I noticed nothing had popped. I checked my achievements, they were all logging and adding to my gamerscore, just not appearing on screen. They started appearing not long after that. Now they are all popping on screen.

Does the free access to Goldeneye with Rare Replay a download to keep or only when the game is uploaded for purchase?

25.5 years later, still not 60fps😂 (but it is 30 and at least not dipping into the teens, lol)

Absolutely loved this game as a fresh out of high school kid, played the funnest marathon sessions with my friend & my bro. Still have the cartridge & my N64 in storage. But this release is exactly what I expected: Dated.😖 Really wished they could have secured us the unreleased Xbox 360 version of this instead.😫

@MattWithoutFear I just meant for Jan, but absolutely theres still good stuff coming. I actually bought Hot Wheels GOTY last year but still a quality release.

Glad people are enjoying this. I loved the original but was burnt out on it over 20 years ago, there's nothing here I'd play over the other titles I have waiting.
For those that never played the original, its a good chance to see one of the defining games of its genre.
Rendering textures of that size @ 4K makes it look worse than lower res imo. 720p @120fps would have been a much better choice for this title.

I remember when I got rare replay. I bought two Xbox Ones and they both had the pack in game option where you could choose gears of war ultimate edition or rare replay so I ended up getting both of them. I downloaded 007 earlier and have been playing it. I think it's okay considering it was a Nintendo 64 game. I am only on the second mission I think and I've had to replay it a few times because the first time I killed 006 thinking he was a bad guy because he came running out from between the tanks I was supposed to blow up. My first attempt I blew up the wrong tanks and they didn't do anything so I wasted all the explosives on those so I had to start that over. Then one of the times I accidentally detonated the explosives while I was still in the room and died. I was just messing around with it anyway I didn't realize it was so strict. I'll play through it when I finish the other game I'm working on, I just wanted to try it out tonight. I think it's a pretty good game so far especially with the improved controls and higher resolution. I can't stop laughing at the character models though, they straight up took a picture of someone and wrapped it around the 3D model of the face in very low resolution and on top of that they gave them the weirdest look on their face. It is hilarious. There is even a guy making a weird face that has a tooth missing. It's priceless.

@grumpypotato it literally is running the game on an emulator, I wonder if they were limited in what they could do with the licensing around it

@Banjo- I'm going to make a cartoon character out of grumpy potato and give him the voice of Butthead when he is old. All he will do is complain about everything, even things he likes. The more he complains, the more things sprout out from all over his body. Then they pop off and start running around him and they are little plants that just complain all the time and they just follow him around constantly. All you hear is 50 little tiny voices complaining in the most annoying frequency possible while the theme song to super Mario world is playing in the background. The madness cannot be escaped. I really need to stop writing things right before I go to sleep.

@Techno92LFC Then just wait for Rare Replay to go on sale, I think it was around £5 the last time and you'll get Goldeneye 007 and 30 more games. Mind you, even full-priced, Rare Replay is worth every penny but you can always wait for the next sale if you have Game Pass now.

@carlos82 I wonder if the developer Code Mystics is responsible, considering that Microsoft gives too much freedom to any development project whether big or small, or did some Nintendo weirdo demand a worse version like when Rare was developing the Xbox 2008 360 remaster and Nintendo stopped it? Nintendo's publishing right expired in 2017 but both new versions were released exactly at the same time and who knows what terms Nintendo's paranoid executives asked for.

@ZYDIO I got an Xbox One just for Rare Replay 😁. Use remote mines, place them in a zigzag on every two tanks and don't hurt the traitor. This is my childhood memory talking 😉.

@Banjo- it's probably the Bond rights holders only allowed the N64 rom to be released and then its down to who's more familiar with N64 emulation. Each seems to have their own strengths and weaknesses with neither been as good as community emulation

@Baler I understand the disappointment. I have it both physically and digitally so I can't test this: have you tried to download Goldeneye 007 with the Rare Replay disc inserted? That would make sense because you'd only be able to play it with the disc inserted anyway. If it's not possible, you can wait for the next sale to get Rare Replay...

@grumpypotato this is no remaster and not hd remake its just a port... Be thankful as sony would've charged you 70$ for it

Played the game for the first time and so far enjoying it.

As for this game. I’m happy to remember my fond memories of it when playing on a TV with friends back on the N64. I’m well aware it hasn’t aged well and I don’t think jumping in again will do any favours.

@Fenbops I think @grumpypotato should tell us what kind of potato he is. We have inquiring minds that want to know. If I had to guess, I would have to say an overcooked potato skin or a pringle. I would totally grub down a grumpy over cooked potato skin.
