Re: Valve Announces New Hardware, Including A Steam Machine That'll Compete With Xbox

cross717

If this Steam Machine costs around $600 - $700 and the next gen Xbox hybrid costs $1,000 to $1,200 then Xbox already lost. Microsoft is now going after the high end console market and there is no high end console market! I've been gaming since the late 80's and I've seen high end consoles such as the 3DO, CD-i etc... and they have all failed.

I think Steam is moving forward on the right path, the specs don't look next gen but that will keep the cost down and this device will sell. I hope Xbox shows something regarding their next gen console/hybrid next year so we can at least try to price it.

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Feel About Halo: Campaign Evolved Launching Day One On PS5?

cross717

Yes, absolutely right. They do have more games than before. And they have invested $80 billion in AI that most people don't want. We, the people know AI is going to take away our jobs.

Microsoft and Nadella are hell bent on not losing the AI 'war' as they lost the search war to Google. I think I'll be buying Playstation 6 next and go back to Sony as they seem to know what they are doing.

Re: Microsoft CEO Says Xbox 'Wants To Innovate' With Its Next-Gen Console

cross717

Innovation is great but people don't like nor want change. You must innovate slowly and get the public to change in small steps.

I would love to have a console/PC hybrid gaming system, and I think it would be great. But pricing is very important, and I'm not going to pay more than $800 for a next gen console and I don't think many others will either.

Pricing almost destroyed the PS3, the Xbox 360 was launched $200 cheaper and it was winning that generation. Xbox One was launched at $100 more than PS4 and it lost badly. And it's why Series X/S has lost this generation.

I do think Microsoft and Xbox need to innovate, but they must do so with pricing in mind and think about affordability for their customers.

Sony has already won the next generation with PS6.

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Feel About Halo: Campaign Evolved Launching Day One On PS5?

cross717

Microsoft buying Activision Blizzard was a huge mistake, it is, so far Phil Spencer's biggest mistake. Phil Spencer and the Xbox executive team thought GamePass subscriptions would sky rocket and it truly hasn't. So Microsoft needs to recoup all $70 billion and regain it fast. Going multi platform, raising the price of GamePass along with games, going with a hybrid/console next gen machine that can play games from multiple fronts.

Re: Sarah Bond: Our Next-Gen Console Will Be 'Very Premium' & Informed By ROG Xbox Ally

cross717

Basically, if you want a game console buy a Playstation 6, if you want a portable console, buy a Switch 2. And if you want a PC gaming rig, buy the next gen Xbox hybrid console.

If this next gen Xbox console would cost around $700-$800, there may be gamers buying it as PC gaming has gotten more and more popular. However, if it's going to cost over a $1,000, I don't see many buying it.

Microsoft has realized, they are never going to beat Sony's Playstation and they once again have to do something different, but this time vastly different.

Re: Xbox Issues Statement Denying Rumour That Next-Gen Console Could Be Cancelled

cross717

I don't believe Xbox and Microsoft with anything they say anymore. Microsoft is so bent on AI and winning the AI race, they don't care about Xbox anymore. If they build a new console or not, I will not buy it. I've always been recommending people to the Xbox brand but not anymore.

Furthermore, the executives at Xbox previously stated GamePass is profitable. So it's profitable at $20 a month, why raise it to $30 a month?

Re: Microsoft Announces New Price Increases For Xbox Series X|S In The US

cross717

This is all B.S. to me. These consoles have been on the market now for 5 years, the parts inside were already old by the time they launched. There is no way for them increase the prices, they are just using tariffs as an excuse. In addition, I think Microsoft wants to charge close to a $1,000 for the next generation Xbox and increasing the prices of the current consoles now is a good excuse to charge a much higher price when the next gen console comes out. Furthermore, if that turns out to be true, Xbox already lost the next gen.

Re: Talking Point: Is Forza Horizon About To Become Xbox's Main Forza Franchise?

cross717

Forza Motorsport is done. I think Xbox wanted Forza Motorsport to be a GamePass type of game where they will keep updating it due to the income from subscribers in the years to come. This is why they didn't give it a number such as Forza Motorsport 8.

But now since Microsoft is an AI company and want to be a formidable player in the AI race, Forza Motorsport will no longer exist. This was the same with Halo Infinite, which also did not get a number such as Halo 6. Xbox was hoping the same with Halo, updates and more content based on the subscribers, but Halo Infinite didn't turn out to be the hit they and everyone else for that matter were expecting. If the GamePass subscriber count would've been 75 million by now, I don't think the mass layoffs at Xbox would've ever happened. But there are less than 40 maybe 35 million subscribers now.

Re: Talking Point: It's Been Two Years Since A Defining Moment In The History Of Xbox

cross717

With all the layoffs, it's seems more and more Microsoft spent a lot of money on Xbox and now it's regretting it. Spending $70 billion on Activision in my view now is a huge mistake, Xbox and Microsoft will now officially mess up Call of Duty as they have messed up Xbox. The 360 was Xbox's most successful console and it too was a financial disaster with the red ring of death, costing Microsoft billions of dollars to fix. Microsoft may even sell Xbox in a few years. And perhaps buying Activision is all part of selling Xbox as Call of Duty is a huge game every year.

Re: Is Xbox Game Pass Unsustainable? Arkane Founder Sparks Huge Debate On Social Media

cross717

Xbox One was so horrible compared, especially it's launch that Microsoft had to do something different to get gamers excited for their console. So they came out with GamePass, which to me is an outstanding service. Now, I love the fact that it has first party games on day one.

However, I think from a business perspective, having first party games day one on GamePass was a huge mistake. I think putting first party games on GamePass on day one 6 months to a year later was the better move.

In addition, Microsoft and Xbox executives were 'hoping' for close to 100 million subscribers, well at least 60 million subscribers by now. And we all know that isn't happening.

Re: Former Xbox Dev Claims Turn 10's Forza Motorsport Team 'Is No More'

cross717

The last Forza Mortorsport game was supposed to be the start of a new Forza Motorsport without the numbered games that was done in the past. I think also that was the same goal with Halo Infinite, having these games be a new long term gaming strategy for Xbox by constantly upgrading them and having GamePass subscribers keep subscribing every month to play these games 'forever' per say.

Now that is all out window, and if there are no more Forza Motorsport games, which seems to be the case here, then I have no reason to own an Xbox in the future. I will go back to Playstation after 15 years of just owning Xboxes to play Gran Turismo and whatever Xbox first party games get ported over to Playstation...

Re: Microsoft Said To Have 'Unrealistic' Expectations For Xbox, But Not Everyone Agrees

cross717

@Fiendish-Beaver Love this, all very valid points! Xbox leaders may have very well promised Microsoft 100 million GamePass subscribers by 2030 and they are nowhere near that. Buying Activision for all those billions and billions was supposed to help with the GamePass subscription numbers but that never materialized. And part of that is due to not porting all of the Activision games over to GamePass, especially the entire Call of Duty catalog.

I'll end my reply by stating the following, how long will Phil Spencer (and Sarah Bond) stay with Xbox, whether by their own decision or being pushed out....

Re: PlayStation Is Publishing Helldivers 2 On Xbox, Signalling A Shift In Strategy From Sony

cross717

I do think Sony is testing the waters here as Microsoft did. Folks, it's all about making money and stock prices. These companies are finally realizing that Microsoft was right about releasing games on multiple platforms. Video games are costing more and more to make along with taking a lot more time to make, which adds to the cost of making them.

Here's hoping Gran Turismo 7 comes to Xbox! It's really the only game on PS5 that I want to play. And with the mass layoffs at Turn 10, which more than likely means we will not get another Forza Motorsport game, Sony needs to pay attention to this.

Re: Xbox Layoffs Begin As Phil Spencer Shares Internal Microsoft Gaming Update

cross717

Xbox is truly lost right now. The way I see it, they thought GamePass was going to have over 50+ million subscribers, perhaps even close to a 100 million subscribers.

They bought Activision for $70 billion which, now they realized that was a mistake. Xbox is run by a corporate empire and thus corporations only really focus on one thing, making money and large amounts of money so they can be super profitable.

Microsoft is a juggernaut of a company, and Xbox is run by the suits who sit in their corner offices making these decisions. It doesn't seem to be run by Phil Spencer nor Sarah Bond, at least not anymore.

Another mistake, they should have never put games day one onto GamePass, wait a at least 6 months to a year then put the first party games on GamePass. I love GamePass and it's really the main reason why I game on Xbox. But I do feel that Sony did it right with their subscription service. Make money on the games in the first year by selling them the old fashioned way. Then after sales start to dip, put them on GamePass. I think they are also realizing this now, but it's too late to change it, well it cannot be changed now.

We are all just a number to this company. The other thing is, Sony seems to be running Playstation very well, they always have. Xbox only was comparable to Playstation with the Xbox 360 and that was due to first and foremost, coming out 1 year earlier than PS3, lower price points and fantastic games, including Xbox Arcade. I miss the 360 days, and Xbox 360 is my favorite console of all time. But those days are forever gone....

Re: Reaction: Xbox's Next-Gen News Is Exciting, But It Also Leaves More Questions Than Answers

cross717

I would love to to have an Xbox and PC all in one console. I've been delaying buying a medium to high end PC, mainly due to the cost of it in these times. More and more gamers are playing on PC versus consoles. Microsoft knows they can never win the console wars against Sony & Nintendo, so I strongly believe a console PC hybrid makes sense for them as a company. If they do make this, they would have to make it easy to connect (any) keyboard and mouse and of course making it easy for gamers to play games such as first person shooters.

Re: Five Reasons Why I'm Incredibly Excited For The ROG Xbox Ally Handheld

cross717

The success of this new product from Xbox and Microsoft all depends on how much they cost. If Xbox prices this closer to a $1,000, it will not be successful. They just raised the prices on Series S and Series X. I do understand the whole supply chain issues and now tariffs. I really thought after 5 years on the market, Series X would cost $399 and Series S $199 by now.

We're living in a time when companies such as Microsoft and Sony are not lowering the prices of their (old) consoles but raising them. When you think about it, these consoles came out in 2020 and by the time they launched, the hardware was already old. And now they're raising the prices on these old consoles.

So with regards to GamePass, if Xbox really wanted it to take off, lowering the prices on their consoles would greatly help, especially Series S at $200 or $199, people would buy it, especially parents buying it for their kids. Take advantage of other companies (Sony) raising prices and lower your prices to get it into more players hands, that's the ultimate goal, isn't it?

Over the years, I've been a great supporter of Xbox and have convinced family and friends to buy an Xbox over Playstation. But now with the raising of prices on their very old consoles instead of lowering them, I can no longer recommend the Xbox brand. All of these companies only care about profits and their stock prices. Employees are only a number for them, so many layoffs, especially in the tech industry and the gaming industry.

The success of this portable Xbox will solely depend on the pricing and judging from what Xbox has done lately, it will be expensive....

Re: Talking Point: It's Been 20 Years Since Xbox 360 Was Revealed Live On MTV

cross717

Wow, it's been 20 years since that MTV unveiling. I remember being so eager to watch it. Xbox 360 is microsoft's best console to date and my favorite console of all time. And I've been playing video games since the 1980s on NES. Microsoft and Xbox did almost everything right with the 360, it released a year before the PS3 and costs $200 less. Microsoft & Xbox needs to go back to what worked with the 360 to beat Sony and the PS3, mainly a lower price point and all around great games and lots of games, including Xbox Arcade.

It was the first console that I would literally turn on and did not have any games in mind to play before hand, it was that good of a console. It also looked very cool and modern, it was the opposite of the original huge Xbox 4 year prior. There were 2 games that made me go into GameStop to pre-order it to get it on day one, Gears of War and Project Gotham Racing 3. These 2 games were impressive and were truly great games that would sell a console.

Now with Xbox raising the prices on their consoles, it's truly disturbing that an Xbox Series X can cost more than a PS5 Pro, makes absolutely no sense. Microsoft needs to look at the razor the blades strategy, you don't make money on the razors, you make money on the blades. Same with video games, you don't make money on the consoles, you make money on the games and now on GamePass subscriptions. I really thought the Xbox Series S would cost $299 and the Series X would cost $399 by now, almost 5 years after release. But the way Xbox and Microsoft are going, they are destroying their brand by raising prices thus alienating the casual gaming market. It seems playing games on consoles will be only for hardcore games with the rest of the population simply playing games on their phones....

Re: Talking Point: Would You Still Buy An Xbox At Microsoft's 2025 Prices?

cross717

I bought an Xbox Series X in December of 2023, a year and a half ago for $349.99 from Walmart on sale. Oh my what a difference a year and half makes! I do understand everything is going up, and it seems like the good old days of console prices dropping after a few years or so on the market are gone. I love Xbox ever since the very first Xbox launched back in 2001.

This makes me think, the next generation of Playstation & Xbox may cost $799 to $999. I do feel these companies are taking advantage of inflation and tariffs. But the way it's going, in 5 years, by 2030, I think we'll be playing most games via cloud and just pay monthly subscription fees. Imagine not having to buy a gaming PC nor a console as games will be streamed and most people now have a good high speed internet connection.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Be Willing To Pay $80 For Xbox Games?

cross717

I'm 46 years old, so I grew up on the NES and SNES back in the 80s and 90s. I remember some games on the SNES such as Street Fighter 2 costing $69.99 back in the early 90s. That's about $147 when adjusted for inflation today. In addition, when the first Playstation launched in the U.S. in 1995 for $299, that equates to about $613 today.

We are paying $499 for an Xbox Series X and PS5 today, which to me is good along with games costing $69.99. This also proves that GamePass is a fantastic deal. The last time I purchased a game was back in 2014. I play on GamePass only.

When adjusted for inflation, paying $70 and perhaps $100 for GTA 6 is actually not so bad if you really think about it.

Re: Happy New Year!

cross717

I think 2024 is the year Xbox starts to slowly take away market share from Sony. Not by selling more consoles but getting more players subscribed on GamePass & playing games on any device. Sony is now scared after the acquisition of ABK and knows for sure they are in trouble going forward. This is also why they are looking for a new CEO. Xbox will have more and more games releasing, and there will be some really good games in those upcoming releases.

Re: Forza Motorsport Leaked Images Show Off Gorgeous Ray Tracing Features

cross717

Forza Motorsport is the game I've been waiting for for the Xbox Series consoles. I'm not that much into open world games such as Starfield. I do agree with the comment on Forza not looking good as GT7 on PS5. But I still can't wait for Forza to come out. If Ray Tracing can be done well, I guess that should make up for the visuals!

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your Earliest Xbox Memories?

cross717

I was working at Best Buy at the time the OG Xbox launched and there were fellow co workers who thought the Xbox would dethrone the Playstation 2, and myself included. That never happened and the Playstation 2 became the best selling console of all time. But I can never forget firing it up with Halo, the sound and the startup music still gives me chills even unto today. My favorite console of all time though is the Xbox 360, it was the console that I would start up and didn't have a particular game in mind tp play. Microsoft learned from their mistakes with the first Xbox and truly made the 360 in my view, the greatest console of all time.

Re: Talking Point: Do You Feel Like You're Still Waiting For 'Next-Gen' To Arrive?

cross717

@Markatron84
And that's what is so disappointing. I'm not so much in graphics anymore like I used to be in the past. So this generation, the hardware makers sold us on 120fps, which I was really hoping for to see in more and more games along with 4K, and RT. I do feel that the higher the fps, the better the game feels. I even bought a new 4K TV with 120fps back in the middle of 2020 in preparation for Series X... But you're right, I'll never get all of what was promised together, I'll have to pick and choose providing the game supports them.

Re: Talking Point: Have You Ever Taken A 'Day Off' For Something Xbox Related?

cross717

I took a day off for the Halo 2 on the original Xbox back in November of 2004. I also picked up the game at midnight at Game Stop. Came home and started playing it for a few hours, went to sleep, woke up the next morning and immediately started playing it as I was off.

The next time I took a day off was a year later in 2005 for the Xbox 360 release. I pre-ordered 2 of them from 2 different Game Stop locations. I immediately came home after picking both of them up and started playing Perfect Dark Zero and Xbox Arcade games.

Re: Microsoft Responds To Old Xbox Comment About 'Spending Sony Out Of Business'

cross717

Sony has the video game market cornered and still pays 3rd party developers not to put their games on Xbox. Sony left Microsoft and Xbox no other choice. Sony is worth $100 billion and Microsoft wants to buy Activision for $70 billion. Sony wishes they could buy Activision and put Xbox out of business but they can't.

All Sony really has in this world for the past 2 decades is Playstation, Apple took away the entire portal music business (the Walkman) from Sony with the iPod. If Playstation ever turns out to be unsuccessful, then Sony would go bankrupt.

People in this world watch the news, see others doing unethical things and look down upon them. But if were put in the same position, we would probably do the same thing.

Re: Reaction: Should Xbox Produce A Mid-Gen Upgrade If Sony Launches 'PS5 Pro'?

cross717

No, not at all. Xbox One was pretty much under powered, so MS needed to release the One X. But this generation, the Series X is very powerful and I don't feel the need. Adding I did have an Xbox One and the One X. I loved the updates on the One X, including the ones that didn't involve the actual power improvements, such as built in power supply, super quiet operation, etc... But this generation, MS has made the Xbox with all of these updates while adding more.

Re: Poll: Are You Interested In Buying The Black Xbox Series S?

cross717

I already have a Series S in my home office and a Series X in my living room. So I won't be purchasing the new Series S 1TB unless my current Series S dies...

I would just like to add, there are now 3 Xbox consoles, and that's just one too many in my view. I feel Microsoft should've just killed the current Series S console with 512 GB and release a replacement for it with 1TB in white as there is already a black Series X.

A 1TB Series S at the same $299 would've been great and a knock on Sony's PS5 825GB. Every 2-3 years cell phones are being upgraded to more storage for the same price, why isn't this happening in game consoles?

Re: Poll: How Would You Grade The Xbox Games Showcase 2023?

cross717

C for me. Most of the games do not have solid release dates. 2024 could very well be 2025, 2026 or even 2027. I really thought Xbox was going to have release dates for most of the games shown. PS5 really just has a new Spiderman game this holiday season, so Xbox should be in a good position with Starfield & Forza Motorsport.

I'm just disappointed with all of the recent acquisitions of studios not producing more games. Hellblade 2 still doesn't have a release date and there was no mention of Perfect Dark. There was however, a good variety of games for all different types of gamers.

Re: Reaction: Microsoft's 2023 Showcase Confirmed There's Something For Everyone At Xbox

cross717

I do feel this showcase was good, but I'm greatly disappointed by a couple things. First and foremost, 2023 just has 2 blockbuster games coming this holiday season. Hellblade 2 was announced during the Xbox Series X reveal in December of 2019, and it's not releasing this holiday season, that's 4 years! Most of the games looked good but no concrete release date. Unless a game has a release date such as October 10th, 2023, don't believe it'll launch when they advised a year such as 2024. 2024 can be 2025 or even 2026 or 2027. Microsoft promised Forza Mortorsport was to be released in the first half of 2023 and it's releasing in the 2nd half of 2023. There was not even a mention of the new Perfect Dark. But there were some interesting new games coming.

The second thing I'm disappointed with is, why not price the 1TB Series S at $299 and get rid of the 512GB version? And no need to make the color carbon black, stick with the tried and true white, the Series X comes in black. Microsoft could've really one upped Sony here in having their cheaper console have more space than a $400 (and $500) PS5. Furthermore, Microsoft should also make a 2TB Series X and sell it for the same $500 price point. Cell phones are releasing every 2-3 years for the same price with SSD storage options, why is this the same with video game consoles?

Re: Poll: How High Are Your Expectations For Sunday's Xbox Showcase?

cross717

Microsoft & Xbox not only needs to have a great show but games need to start coming out soon, and I'm not talking about Starfield.
There are 14 games that were promised to come from last year's show that we are still waiting for, including Forza Motorsport.

Furthermore, I just can't understand why Xbox is so focused on releasing 'special edition' controllers. Do you see Sony releasing so many controllers, no.

This is the most important show Xbox will ever host, and it has to have concrete release dates for upcoming games. After all the acquisitions, we have great expectations from the Xbox brand. I truly believe this can be a make it or break show for Xbox.

Re: Talking Point: Do You Buy Less Third-Party Titles Because Of Xbox Game Pass?

cross717

I haven't bought a game in maybe 3-4 years. I just play what GamePass has.

Including Madden NFL and NBA 2K games, they eventually come to game pass, Madden 23 was just added last week, and NBA 2K23 will come sometime around April. And I'll play these games until next year's versions come to GamePass.

I also play Halo, Forza, both Motorsport & Horizon, and various other games and genres that are on GamePass.

For me, there's no reason for me to go buy games for $60-$70, I love GamePass.
