@RiverGenie It is still the monolithic edifice of the genre. A genre that has essentially died because nothing could penetrate it, not even big licensed properties like LOTR and Star Wars.
The genre may be slightly archaic at this point, but WoW is still big enough of a deal to the people that like it, branching out to a new console audience certainly wouldn’t hurt either. I really want to see it on consoles.
Though I can also see why it’s not worth the effort if the next console is just a PC… But this ABK deal has not been fruitful so far and that’s putting it mildly.
@AverageGamer I was playing with a friend who was using a controller a few months ago, it is already technically doable. WoW is not that demanding anymore either. WoW classic might be.
Gonna say what I said in the other thread. This looks bad and I wish Nightdive doing it.
Aspyr do shoddy work. They made it look dark and glossy like an original 360 launch game. Overly normal mapped. And I’m sure adding ragdolls won’t look bad at all…
Nightdive recently did perfection with System Shock 2 and this makes me dread what horrible things Aspyr could do to Thief 1+2… Cause damn.
Ooof. Wish it was Nightdive doing Deus Ex. Aspyr do shoddy work. They made it look dark and glossy like an original 360 launch game. Overly normal mapped.
Nightdive recently did perfect work with System Shock 2. That’s why I will always trust them to get it right.
I’ve been impressed with the quality mode on Series S, it’s surprisingly smooth. There’s LOD and texture streaming problems but it’s good enough… Considering how PC players still complain about performance, I’d say it it’s a win.
Though I’ve been wondering why my game looks aesthetically different from all I’ve seen before and even the stratagem preview videos… It’s totally washed out and I don’t know why. I thought it might be a Series S issue but apparently not. Or maybe it actually is.
Honestly, I was expecting the game to be a bit more popular. I first noticed the player count when it was at 277,000 and thought; Wait… That’s all?
If it was averaging at 50k before, that’s slightly alarming for this always online server based, critically acclaimed game… Granted, it’s not new and it’s on the repetitive side. And also not F2P nor on gamepass, so it’s not completely surprising I guess. But I just wonder about its long term health. I guess the new average could reach about 80k a day in the future and that’s healthy I know, but for how long? Maybe I’m overestimating the cost of keeping the server up.
Because it is exceptionally good. Probably the best and most satisfying shooter of all my life.
It’s essentially doomed in the console space, will probably survive through mobile and PC. I don’t think it will be another XDefiant but hell, I didn’t think XDefiant would have been an ‘XDefiant’ if you know what I mean.
It does do a few things I like that BF6 doesn’t and that I wish BF6 did. But aside from the crossplay blunder and the atrocious controller adaption, the only thing I think is objectively awful about this game is the sound design, it’s seriously C tier trash. Footsteps, bullets hitting metal, voice work, ladder climbing. All embarrassingly bad.
And yeah, in order to survive in this market you gotta A) put your best foot forward (they didn’t) and B) achieve quality parity with your competitors (they haven’t entirely) so BF6 is gonna eat up its player count. The hype train for that game is now even bigger after the BO7 disaster.
Once again the series S gets short shrift for no reason other than incompetence or laziness, the low res textures aren’t justified. BF6 is among the few games lately that prove the Series S can do more.
Not that it matters much, the game reminds me of the F2P shooters of the 360 era almost, it’s serviceable for free and that’s all. Its alternate universe version of BF 2042 is kinda fascinating I will admit, but maybe not in a good way.
Yayyyy! Something I’ve hoped for, for a long time, especially ATS. Just wondering how the heaps of dlc will be handled, or how it will be received by those who have no idea how much there is.
If this would end up annoying those Outbreak con artists with their dozens and dozens of embarrassingly named bundles, slapped with equally embarrassing and insipid AI art… Then that would make me very happy. Their Claire Redfield obsession is cringe and the idea that they are bringing back old school survival horror on the same level as Resident Evil is just absurd.
@BacklogBrad The EU is heavily pushing for the same thing, the US and Australia too. Big tech companies are pushing for it also. It gives them all more oversight.
Our anonymity is being erased under the guise of “ThINk oF tHe cHiLDrEn” but in reality it’s because governments want more control and corporations want even more money.

It ain’t high profile enough to be worth it, but I really wish the Earth Defence Force series would come back to Xbox. Having said that, I’m more than thrilled that Helldivers is coming. And that more than fills the EDF void.
@RBRTMNZ Let’s face it, these apologists would gleefully pull the same layoff trigger if they were in charge. At least they out themselves as borderline sociopaths so I know to avoid them.
It’s all BS. Nadella is not sad about a damn thing. There’s no legitimate need to cut these jobs, it’s disgusting corporate greed of the highest order and there’s no excusing it; Unless you have miserable corporate ambitions of your own. Our AI slop ridden dystopian future is nothing to laugh about either, it’s beyond grim.
Well I’ll be that guy and say I thought Perfect Dark looked bland and ordinary, plus it betrayed my memory of Perfect Dark. I’m not really surprised it wasn’t seen as a potential winner.
HOWEVER. I do not support the decision to shut it and the studio down, wasting years of people’s hard work. As such happens with every cancellation. It should have been given a chance, I can’t possibly imagine it was unplayable garbage.
It looks like IO is trying to beat Amazon to the punch on who can make the cringiest adaptation of Bond… I’m getting the Uncharted movie vibes from this, down to the Tom Holland-esque miscast. Yikes.
Maybe I’m being a bit too harsh. At times he kinda looks like Fassbender… which I dunno, that’s a better archetypal fit. It’s still not the type of game I was expecting though. It only looks tangentially Bond… Could be a Alpha Protocol sequel for all I know.
@shoeses That’s what I thought, pretty sure the writing was on the wall already.
It wasn’t generating “enough” for them despite their best scummy efforts. And said efforts hurt the game, I thought it sucked by MK standards. No lesson will be learned though because WB are low key the worst of them all.
If the offline version doesn’t have access to any of the insane events they made post launch then I’d be unhappy. They did some really cool stuff in the end, lord knows the game needed it. Motorfest turned me away with all the forced vehicle events. Still dumb as hell to me.
I hate it! Thank goodness they didn’t take away the right to download the original.
I’m sure this is a revelation for younger people who couldn’t stomach the original but the visuals are all wrong for me. Changes to gameplay and movement are not my thing either, some clunkiness could be ironed out maybe but whatever.
My biggest issue is what this means for mods going forward across all Bethesda games. They’ve been at war with modders for a while now and this seems to be a test to see if they can get away with severely limiting and controlling them. People will eat it up because they are infatuated with Unreal despite it being overrated.
Feel really sorry for them with the timing of Oblivion. That has to take attention away on gamepass in some way, right? But I’m not surprised it’s reviewing well, it always looked like something special and new.
Series S version is abysmal and not fun to play. But hey, that’s Unreal for you. Doesn’t help the game’s colour grading is totally off and feels nothing like the original.
@NeutronBomb Sometimes a shadow drop can generate a lot of buzz and hysteria, not everyone keeps their ears to the ground on game news and rumours, so it might be a big deal. Also it mitigates hype train disappointment, something that’s all too common with Bethesda games as of late.
How weird, I thought the exact same thing when I was browsing the store yesterday for the first time in months. I was like… Ain’t there a hundred of these already!?
Didn’t really delve in to see what the differences were or what collections they were, but I see the name pop up so many times and they never have good ratings.
@Dalamar73 But their progress is tied to their account so they’re not losing the time spent. I’m with @Kaloudz, I mean people have got to move on at some point, at this rate we could have 3 generations of Xbox hardware being actively developed for and that just sounds crazy to me. But it is ultimately a result of our unreasonably difficult times and I get that. I’ve been stuck on Series S this entire time which wasn’t my intention.
But more importantly—and to your earlier comment—it’s BDO... It’s one of the stupidest games I’ve ever played and barely even feels like a game. Feels more like a front to some nefarious money laundering scheme. It also ran like hell on Xbox One… I think whoever’s still playing that game on there must be in the distinct minority and would probably appreciate the upgrade, because wow, it was bad.
Might we get a successor to True Crime: New York City without all of the horrific bugs!? That’s what this is sort of reminding me of, with a perspective change.
@Fishticon You’re forgetting the audience that plays GTA. They ain’t gonna care about the formula. They are gonna care about all the pedestrians they can run over though, that’s for sure.
Will it be a dud for highfalutin game critics? Maybe. Dud for the masses? Highly unlikely. Dud commercially? Literally impossible.
My god, people… Nothing about not having to think to play a game is good… Sure okay, some are going to use it responsibly, but just enough will use it as a crutch and eventually that in turn becomes full dependence. That is regression.
As a foolish early adopter, I can say confidently that it does not climb another rung. It’s one rung up, two rungs down.
The creation suite is in a dire state with inexplicably missing features and cut content. The game is full of questionable design choices and regressions. Quality control is lower than ever. Sure, the basics still work, but they worked last year too.
Can it get better? Potentially. But Visual Concepts have a bad, bad track record in actually addressing bugs and feedback. Typically we have to wait until the next game to see IF some things get fixed.
And that is no doubt due to the hellish annual dev cycle they’re on combined with the ancient code they’re wrestling with, pun intended of course. With BS modes like The Island stretching them even further, I can’t see a positive future for this series. A few games back it did seem like there was one, but 2K clearly have other nefarious plans.
I respect Jaffe and he’s not an idiot. He was always super down to earth when I heard him talk in the past. So I’d love to hear him elaborate on this opinion. That’s not me being catty, I’m genuinely curious.
I have no beef with Starfield or its story. Except maybe with the expansion… And pretty much how it’s been handled post launch. However, that was one hell of an inflammatory thing to post.
@Kaloudz I don’t see how them being this popular exempts them from that status, if anything it does the opposite. As far as I’m concerned it’s mission accomplished for these greedy corporate A holes. It’s been their goal all along to “onboard” the masses to these addictive cash machines. It’s really no different than the arcade business of old, gaming kinda went full circle, sadly.
But alas, for as long as regular offline games still get made, I’ll try to not complain too much. While I’m thrilled live service constantly fails lately, it’s such a ludicrous waste of money and ultimately leads to a waste of jobs.
You’re telling me after 2 huge worlds updates and they still can’t add different coloured rock surfaces? I’m tired of all these pretty planets marred by ugly black mountains. Where’s the idyllic limestones and chalky looking landscapes? I just want it to back to Pathfinder’s beauty.
Yep, looks about as crummy as the first one. Except I have far deeper nostalgia for the second game, so I’d rather get it in its original form and not in this overly post processed, rusty brown form.
Well this sure as hell ain’t the outcome I wanted after they took down all their old stuff… In fact it’s the worst possible outcome and the one that best fits our darkest timeline. Yuck.
As much I love SEGA, I ain’t subscribing to them just to play their old games I don’t already own, for a month at a time. If that stuff is locked away behind their service then F that.
I know this is not a performance improvement and is going to sound crazy. But… I’d like to see a really awful English dub. Part of Shenmue’s spellbinding charm is the stilted dreamlike English VO that’s sometimes nightmarish, but it’s iconic.
I know that can’t be done but if there’s one use of AI I’d tolerate, it might be that. Anyway I’d just be happy to finally continue Ryo’s journey, I adore these games so much.
Still not as good as the collection that came out for the 360, which was a better fan service package overall, this thing always felt bare bones. Hopefully this means they have a new collection on the way that’s more akin to that Atari collection, because as a SEGA dork, I’d go crazy for that.
I just wish this would send the signal to stop competing in this space and make something that’s built to last, y’know, like singleplayer games. It never does.
@Tasuki Yeah, let’s bemoan the singleplayer franchise that’s still for the most part, an original concept…
C’mon don’t be salty. I know y’all get mad when something gets too many release (subjective) but I’d be more concerned at the amounts of money that gets thrown and wasted on games designed to steal attention and chain people to grinds.
I say it every big sale and by god I’m gonna say it again, these sales are not what they used to be. None of the things I really wanted to see in my 80+ wishlist are on sale… Again 🫠 they sometimes do in random sales I don’t budget for. But not the big ones I know are coming.
@Ricky-Spanish Except this isn’t one of them? Enough with the tired rhetoric and please gamers, enough with “bloat”. This is your new favourite crutch to rag on anything you dislike, it’s ridiculous how many of you are using this now. Have more original thought, I beg you.
I suspect this game’s problem was the type of game it was and its price point. Also, expecting a metroidvania to do big numbers based on an old IP you think is still hot enough to warrant them, well, that’s just stupid. So a lot of the fault is on themselves for being so unrealistic. But I didn’t want to spend that much money on that style of game. When it was new anyway, I see it available for a much more reasonable price now of course.
@Vordus Except they haven’t because they’re nowhere near as fun and unabashed as they used to be, they’ve watered down their formula to be as boring and conservative as possible to appear “cool” for critics and snobs alike. Hasn’t payed dividends for them clearly.
I could feel this coming and it was the only new release this year I was planning on getting at launch, so F me I guess.
Them saying Outlaws plays a part in this is... Strange. Although this is not the first time this has happened for them. But polish is polish, not sure what outlaws has to do with it 'really'.
I didn't get Outlaws, not only because games are expensive, but because it looked hyper boring and conservative to me, so unless that's the "learnings" and they're taking the extra months to make this game less like that game--which they're not, it's feature complete--then I'm really bummed by this news. Finally being able to play Genshin on a console is pretty much the only thing left I have to look forward to this year.
Ugh, I get reeeeally irritated when people complain about the mechanics that defined this game and made it highly original to this day. Every time this game comes up in discussion, it's always "Oh I wish they'd remove the timer" and I'm like... Really?
I can assure you, once you beat it once and have a high lvl Frank, subsequent playthroughs--which is integral to the game--are waaaaay easier. Getting better at the game and knowing where things are is how you beat the timer to unlock hard achievements and rewards, which you can't do all in one go anyway... That is Dead Rising!!!
That's all moot anyway cause this doesn't seem that special and I'd rather have the classic flavour and the original voice actor. Might be a nice novelty tho, kinda interested in getting achievements again.
@InterceptorAlpha It honestly looks like DLC to me. I love water parks but It’s kinda weird to me that’s the big selling point. I hope this game has waaaaaay more prefab buildings and decorations.

But alas, for as long as regular offline games still get made, I’ll try to not complain too much. While I’m thrilled live service constantly fails lately, it’s such a ludicrous waste of money and ultimately leads to a waste of jobs.
Re: No Man's Sky 'Worlds Part 2' Brings New Biomes, Planets & Graphics To Xbox Game Pass
Re: The House Of The Dead 2: Remake Confirmed For Xbox In Spring 2025
Yep, looks about as crummy as the first one. Except I have far deeper nostalgia for the second game, so I’d rather get it in its original form and not in this overly post processed, rusty brown form.
Re: SEGA Is Reportedly Considering Its Own Gaming Subscription Service
Well this sure as hell ain’t the outcome I wanted after they took down all their old stuff… In fact it’s the worst possible outcome and the one that best fits our darkest timeline. Yuck.
As much I love SEGA, I ain’t subscribing to them just to play their old games I don’t already own, for a month at a time. If that stuff is locked away behind their service then F that.
Re: Shenmue 3's New Publisher Asks Fans If They Want An Xbox Release
I know this is not a performance improvement and is going to sound crazy. But… I’d like to see a really awful English dub. Part of Shenmue’s spellbinding charm is the stilted dreamlike English VO that’s sometimes nightmarish, but it’s iconic.
I know that can’t be done but if there’s one use of AI I’d tolerate, it might be that. Anyway I’d just be happy to finally continue Ryo’s journey, I adore these games so much.
Re: SEGA Genesis Collection Gets Huge Xbox Discount Ahead Of This Week's Delisting
Still not as good as the collection that came out for the 360, which was a better fan service package overall, this thing always felt bare bones. Hopefully this means they have a new collection on the way that’s more akin to that Atari collection, because as a SEGA dork, I’d go crazy for that.
Re: Ubisoft Is Giving Up On XDefiant, Just Over Six Months Since It Launched
I just wish this would send the signal to stop competing in this space and make something that’s built to last, y’know, like singleplayer games. It never does.
@Tasuki Yeah, let’s bemoan the singleplayer franchise that’s still for the most part, an original concept…
C’mon don’t be salty. I know y’all get mad when something gets too many release (subjective) but I’d be more concerned at the amounts of money that gets thrown and wasted on games designed to steal attention and chain people to grinds.
Re: Deals: Xbox Black Friday Sale 2024 Now Live, 800+ Games Discounted
I say it every big sale and by god I’m gonna say it again, these sales are not what they used to be. None of the things I really wanted to see in my 80+ wishlist are on sale… Again 🫠 they sometimes do in random sales I don’t budget for. But not the big ones I know are coming.
Re: Ubisoft's Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown Team Reportedly 'Disbanded'
Re: 10 Years On, 'Project Spark' Remains One Of The Most Ambitious Xbox Titles Of All Time
I didn’t spend more than a few days with it but I’ll never forget the little world I built with this thing.
Re: Report: Ubisoft Is Considering A Buyout From Tencent & Partners
@Vordus Except they haven’t because they’re nowhere near as fun and unabashed as they used to be, they’ve watered down their formula to be as boring and conservative as possible to appear “cool” for critics and snobs alike. Hasn’t payed dividends for them clearly.
Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Delayed To Feb 2025, Partly Due To Poor Start For Star Wars Outlaws
Re: Review: Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster (Xbox) - Capcom Classic Gets No-Frills Upgrade
Re: Planet Coaster 2 Is Making A Splash On Xbox This November
@InterceptorAlpha It honestly looks like DLC to me. I love water parks but It’s kinda weird to me that’s the big selling point. I hope this game has waaaaaay more prefab buildings and decorations.
Re: EA Reveals Performance Targets For Star Wars Jedi: Survivor On Xbox One
Still completely crazy that people complain about the Series S and yet stuff like this is still happening.
