Poll: What Are Your First Impressions Of Oblivion Remastered?

It's just brilliant I don't think theres anything negative I can think to say about it just great hopefully fallout 3 next for the hyper deluxe remake 🤔👏✌️

My first impression was that I couldn't stop smiling for 3 hours. It's pure gold.

I got to play for a little bit last night and I'm blown away.

Its Oblivion warts & all with a fresh coat of paint

The remaster has smoothed over a lot of the originals warts with the updates to ui etc. Some still remain pop in, floating scenery & stutters are what I have experienced (in performance mode.)

The thing is non of that stopped me putting hundreds of hours into the original game and I don't expect any of it will stop me doing the same in this remaster.

Not usually a fan of remasters but if they were all of this standard I would be open to persuasion.

Only thing upsetting me is how much is launching on top of each other between this, expedition 33, Days Gone Replay, Forza Horizon 5. And thats just for these last 2 weeks of April

It’s fantastic aside from some framerate dips when out in the open world (on a Series X). Looks beautiful and plays well. Just happy to have a modern version of Oblivion, which is my favorite ES game even over Skyrim.

I haven't even donwloaded it,waiting to finish clair obscur before diving into Oblivion. I don't understand Microsoft to put two incredible rpg out the same week totaly stupid move,

On the performance side of things, It has a few stutters but that'll likely get patched out in some upcoming updates.

But outside of that, the game is beautiful and it feels like the Skyrim I've dreamed of. I've forgotten so much of the game and actually I'm happy about it, because everything feels new and exciting. I only just got to Cyradil and it looks absolutely beautiful.

I hate it! Thank goodness they didn’t take away the right to download the original.

I’m sure this is a revelation for younger people who couldn’t stomach the original but the visuals are all wrong for me. Changes to gameplay and movement are not my thing either, some clunkiness could be ironed out maybe but whatever.

My biggest issue is what this means for mods going forward across all Bethesda games. They’ve been at war with modders for a while now and this seems to be a test to see if they can get away with severely limiting and controlling them. People will eat it up because they are infatuated with Unreal despite it being overrated.

Loving it so far, they really knocked this out of the park with the little QOL improvements but retaining the jank. Can't speak for series performance since I'm playing via Steam.

5 hours in and loving it! Love the graphics and changes, character creator is way better too! Loved this game as a kid and loving it so far! Combat feels a little better from original Oblivion from what I remember but still the same thing really, it could be way better but it does the job, I suppose it's true to Oblivion. I just need to find a way to take a week off from work and the family now😅

It looks nice but feels like an unnecessary visual remaster. They could have done more on the combat side.

Looking at steam where the original game of the year edition is $15 (often on sale for $2.99) vs this one at $50, I think I would recommend the original at sale price $2.99.

I think the character faces are wonky. Even in the character creator I couldn't find an easy way to make my character not look like a neanderthal. The noses and foreheads are huge, the faces look too wide and, while there seems to be a lot of options, none of them really matter much. For example I like to make my characters have red hair. While you can set the hair color it doesn't actually seem to do too much. With all the gradient settings (which I tried in all directions), there was very little change in actual color. The # of options for noses and chins and whatnot are just overwhelming and many didn't seem to have much of an impact. I much prefer to be able to select a pre-defined model and then adjust it as needed. The character creator in this remake is one of the worst of the modern generation.

Performance wise the game stutters when you're moving the character creation options pretty quickly. It was noticeable and blocky. In game the blockiness is less noticeable except when you load into an area or move around quickly.

I did have one freeze while working my way through starting prison area. The assassins jumped us and I started to swing with my sword. While the music played everything else froze. I had to terminate the game and restart.

The "bad" Oblivion navigation for inventory, map, etc has been partially redone but it still isn't great. I want to be able to quickly save games and whatnot. Yet I have to open one of the nav sections, then navigate over to System to be able to save/load. That should be a single button click really. Navigating everything else is a little better than Oblivion but still garbage.

Overall though I'm enjoying getting back into my 2nd favorite ES game.

@Ricky-Spanish from a business plan and for the devs of clair obscur it could mean lower sales, for gamers it's good but in these hard days for small studio Microsoft should have let clair obscur shine alone for a couple of weeks.

I'm gobsmacked with it. What an amazing job - it feels brand new. Beautiful to look at on XSX and 4K and so far playing really well.

Like others, I've had a few stutters here and there, especially transitioning to a new area. No doubt that will get fixed.

I was having a pretty good time with it until about the 4 and 1/2 hour mark. Trying to escape with the book from the altar of dagon, I encountered a game-breaking bug. The game thinks the door is closed when it is actually open. I cannot progress. All four autosaves as well as my quicksave have the bug. My only other manual save was at the 1-hour mark. Oh well. Uninstall and wait to see what patches are released.

@munstahunta I'm gonna be playing both I'm eating good both will be amazing can't wait to try 33 tomorrow let the big wigs worry about finances this is a win for us gamers!!

I think it's amazing so far. It's much more modern-feeling than I was expecting and so, so gorgeous.

Didn’t get round to playing the original because I wasn’t gaming in the mid-late 2000s, but I can see how close it feels to the original. Heard yesterday that the devs kept some of the jank because it was part of the charm. Personally I would have preferred they clean up those elements, along with the combat - particularly melee - and some QOL menu improvements.

Dungeon design obv in keeping with the style of the day, ie lots of tunnels and corridors. Sure they look better now, but the repetition starts to grind after a while.

I think some people are going overboard with their praise - possibly caught up in the sentimentality. I’ve no beef with that - each to their own… plus it makes a change to hear so many positive vibes around a launch instead of the click bait toxicity that’s been taking over lately.

Overall I’m enjoying the game but without the emotional tie I reckon I’ll get bored soon.

I started playing last night on my Series S for a couple of hours and really enjoyed what I played. The performance seems decent enough. I do get bored quite easily with these type of games, but the landscape is just brilliant and quite breathtaking at times too, so it makes you feel like you should explore, and I did some of that. I came across ruins and caves with hidden treasures and monsters 😖 So yeah, I think I'm going to enjoy my time with this one.

The difficulty scaling is atrocious.

Adept = brain-dead baby mode
Expert = impossible tedious mode

They made Expert 3x damage taken and 0.5x damage dealt. In a single difficulty level. Ridiculous. Mods on pc already available to fix this but I'm on XBOX! Frankly, this is unplayable and I'm uninstalling LOL

@munstahunta I think all the leaks forced there hand, I think they planned to have this a shadow drop at the June showcase, but the last few leaks made it clear it was real and I guess it would have been anticlimactic to wait until June. Anyway gamepass is sure proving it's value this month in terms of grade A content

Been playing all day (and most of last night) and am absolutely loving it. So much seems to have changed for the better.

Completely stable, other than those few stutters on transition. Something to do with auto save ?

My ONLY niggle is that the world map doesn’t seem to update, as in say Skyrim, so portals are still showing up when I have closed them. Caves/ castles etc don’t indicate that they are looted. Small point, again maybe they will see to it.

@CoolDadTx tbf AC Odyssey has the same save game mechanics. You have to open a screen then another to navigate to load/save.

@gravelmonkey yeah, if you didn't play the OG back in the day you won't really appreciate the 'jank'. Glad they kept it.
To me it's like a long lost friend giving you a big warm hug , welcome home.

I'm liking it, perf isn't as good as expected considering I'm using DLSS and it doesn't look at detailed as something like Horizon Forbidden West. In caves and stuff it's fine, but in overworld it drops under 60 some times. Also not too fond of how various lush forests look a bit brown. There's reshade mods that help, but they then ruin the look in caves and buildings n stuff, and I don't wanna keep turning it on and off, so I've kept the contrast settings on that make it look better but not the colour altering ones.
